I love a fried spam burger. If you take one of the regular size cans and slice it into 3 equal slabs you will have 3 1/3lb patties. I fry it up, put it on a soft hamburger bun with mayo and mustard, lettuce and farm fresh tomatoes, and maybe a slice of cheese. Oh yeah! I have not had one in years but I do have some cans of spam in my RV stash.
Growing up we had spam quite a bit, it made a cheap meal for the family. Mom had lots of creative recipes using it.

I like Spam, just very occasionally, probably have it once in a few years. I like it fried for breakfast (usually when camping) or cubed up in a casserole.

Yes, there is a Spam museum, in Austin, MN. I lived maybe 60 miles from there for a good many years, but never did make the opportunity to visit the museum. Kind of wish I had.

I did visit the Spam Museum and learned that it was originally developed to be food for the military. It's a product that could be packed and stored by soldiers, that wouldn't rot while waiting to be consumed.

I cannot tolerate spam in any form. The fat content and the sodium nitrate levels literally make me nauseated. Mother would get it once in awhile when we were growing up, but none of us liked it. Robert brought some home for fun a couple of years ago and fried it crispy, the way he loved it as a youngster.

He made us a couple of sandwiches with sliced tomato, lettuce, and mayo. He said "never again " and couldn't even finish my sandwich.

I guess a little bit of Spam once in a while won't kill you, even though the ingredients are somewhat dubious.

My favorite way to eat it is to fry a semi-thick piece till browned and a bit crispy, and make a sandwich using sweet pickle relish as the only condiment.

Turning up your nose at the sweet pickle relish? It's also what I put on peanut-burgers, which have been a favorite of mine for over 50 years.

I like cold Spam,but it's pretty salty.Tastes even saltier when you fry it. I like it with eggs and toast but seldom have it because it's really un healthy.

In our house, buying Spam marks the start of hurricane season, lol. It's always purchased along with batteries, water and the usual stuff to ride out the storm season here in Florida. Favorite memories include eating fried Spam sandwiches with mustard while Phil Vassar cd plays .....roar from the generators in the neighborhood.....the season is upon us.. hoping for a quiet, uneventful time this year

I take Spam, wash off the gel under cold water, cut it into cubes, brown it, and put it in with spaghetti and sauce in place of meatballs. Hubby likes spam with eggs or as a sandwich. We always have a can or two of Spam in the pantry.

First time I ever had spam in my life was at Mt Berry, GA, a co-op school.

Mom of friend let us ride with her, as she took son to spend the year at Mt Berry.

We stopped by a working water wheel, and she pulled out a can of spam and made sandwiches for us.

Hubby loves it right out of the can. Chops it into cubes and eats it with crackers. I haven't had it since I was a child. Should pick some up for him next Costco trip.

I Love Spam! I seldom eat it, but always have a few cans in the emergency food pantry. I could eat it seven days a week if only I did not know how bad it is for my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.! My favorite sandwich is fried spam, fresh sliced tomato and lettuce with mayo.

I've gone thru life without ever even tasting it and plan to continue.

I tried something a few weeks ago that I had only heard about on cooking shows: pork belly. It was an appetizer, served with a mango salsa. Billed as Applewood smoked, Coke braised.

Well, now I can say I have had it. That's about all I can say about it.

I like Spam once in awhile, but not as a steady diet. Seeing the posting about the Hawaiian dish reminds me that somewhere I read Spam was quite popular in Hawaii.

My Auntie Em had a recipe using Spam called Spam Casserole - my son loved to call it ham and worms. Rinse and cut up a can of spam in half inch cubes. Add it to a cup of white onions precooked in a bit of butter 'till they are translucent, Add 1 or 2 small cans of stems and pieces mushrooms - drained. I cook about 3/4 to pound of pasta (love the bow tie pasta) and add to the mixture along with 1 1/2 cup shredded mild cheese and a can of Campbell Golden Mushroom soup - mix (if it seems dry, add another can of the soup or even a bit of milk...) and cover with some croutons - throw in the oven 325 ú for 30 - 40 minutes - kids loved it and now that I remember it, I need to make it again...

I remember my mother frying thin slices of Spam for sandwiches in the late 1940s. I liked it hot from the frying pan on buttered bread. Thought it was delicious back then.

I like the stuff on occassion. The original was made mainly of pork products, however, these days. spam made with turkey products is available too.

I like to put spam on rye bread and add sweet pickle slices to the sandwich.

For me, I'm chuckling because there is absolutely nothing (except the bagette) in that sentence that doesn't make me gag just thinking about it. Spam - ugh. And I hate mayonnaise. So mayonnaise on Spam is just, again in my opinion, absolutely gross. And ... I even hate Bugels!

A lot of people grew up eating Spam because it was a cheap meal. It could be casseroled with noodles or macaroni and feed a bunch of kids...The name Spam means ....Spiced Ham...

I like mine like a few others here, thinly sliced, on white bread or buns with mustard..My husband likes it military style, chopped and scrambled with eggs...it was always available in the mess hall...

My dad grew up on Maui, and even though our family was raised in Virginia, we always kept SPAMî in the pantry. My dad would eat Spam with fried eggs and rice -- breakfast, lunch, dinner, didn't matter what time of day it was. As a child, I attributed my father's love of Spam to his pedestrian food knowledge (he pronounces the J in fajita), but it turns out he's not alone. Hawaii consumes more Spam than any state in our union -- in total, 7 million cans a year.

According to the SPAM website, the island's love affair with Spam began in World War II, when GIs were served the salty luncheon meat because it didn't require refrigeration and had a long shelf life. The Hormel Corporation, which manufactures Spam, provided 15 million cans to Allied troops every week. Between 1941 and 1945, Hormel had shipped over 100 million pounds overseas.

Though the name Spam is a shortened version of "spiced ham," Army soldiers would often refer to it as "Special Army Meat." Surpluses of Spam made their way from the soldiers' supplies into native diets throughout the Pacific. I made fried spam, baked beans and fried potatoes at least once a week.

There is actually another canned meat product that is similar to Spam that my family prefers; it is called "Treet." To my way of thinking, it just has a better flavor than Spam. And yes, we like it in sandwiches, fried with scrambled or fried eggs, in a casserole, in between two saltine crackers, etc. We don't eat it all the time, but have a hankering for it about every two month.

Also how about potted meat vs deviled ham. I love deviled ham, but don't give me potted meat.

Every year or so I grab a can of Underwood Deviled Ham spread. Must have it on whole wheat sourdough bread with mayo. Dang it! Now I *must have* deviled ham!

I like both potted meat and deviled ham.

I mentioned that I have a recipe for Spam Spread. I did find it and I posted it on the What's for Dinner thread. I'm posting it here now, too.

1 can Spam, ground
2 tbsp. minced onion
2 tbsp. sour cream

Mix above ingredients. Form into a ball and frost with the following mixture:

8 oz. cream cheese
4 tbsp. sour cream
1 tsp. mustard
Dash of horseradish

It is really good as a snack, especially with Ritz crackers, or as a sandwich.

Winning recipe at this year's Wisconsin State Fair Great American Spam Championship contest

Bacon Jack Turkey Sandwich

8 bacon slices

1 (12-ounce) can Spam turkey, sliced

4 rolls, split

mayonnaise

8 lettuce leaves

8 slices pepper jack cheese

8 thin slices onion

8 tomato slices

4 dill pickle slices

Place bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until browned on both sides. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.

Place slices of Spam turkey in large skillet over medium heat and cook until lightly brown on both sides.

Slice rolls in half. Spread with mayonnaise on top half of each roll. Starting from bottom half of roll place 2 leaves of lettuce, 2 slices of Spam turkey, 2 slices of pepper jack cheese, 2 slices of bacon, 2 slices of onion, 2 slices of tomato and 1 pickle slice. Top with roll spread with mayonnaise.

Yields: 4 servings

I know I've eaten Spam before (I lived in Hawaii as a kid), but don't really remember it. My FIL likes it, but prefers his fried bologna sandwiches better! lol

My husband loves Spam. Me, not so much. He also likes Vienna sausages, which he pronounces "vi-enny".

I like it sliced and fried crispy. I dip it in pancake syrup to eat it.

Like me those vi-enny sausages every once in a while, too.

I have to admit I like those Vienna Sausages too. My kids used to eat them sometimes and they saved my life once!
After what seemed like a million delays, we were stuck in a tiny airport with no food left. My 1st DD was around a year old, extremely cranky and hungry. We had a can and she gobbled them up!

I'm laughing at the Possum Roadkill. One year I made Georgia Roadkill labels that I put on small cans and sent to relatives. Everyone got a good laugh.
