I really do love the company and a lot of the products..hardest part was NOT spending what you made on product yourself!..

I've tossed the idea of doing it again in my brain once or twice over the last 2 or 3 years..

This site says the initial sign-up fee is $20.

This site says, "The kits cost $10 to sign up locally face to face or $20 to sign up online. The difference between the two is the cost of shipping the kit to your home. "

... we bought some Avon shares back in the mid 60s, for our kids.

I think that we bought about 3 shares for Kathryn, and 6 for Bruce, using their Family Allowance, which was then $6.00 per month, $72.00 per year, and a share cost about $75. Bruce, born abroad, didn't become Canadian resident until he was nearly 2, but we just added the extra to buy a share a year for him, as well. Down payment on their post-secondary education ... or a start in what they chose to do, as they became adults.

A bonus was that, even with those few shares, we not only received a dividend, but each year received 2 samples of their newly introduced lines ... which were nice presents for in-laws, outlaws, etc.

Sue and I parted about four years later and I don't know what happened after that, but I think that their value had almost doubled in those four years.

I worked for Avon years ago, not as a rep but in one of their regional offices. It was a great place to work. I would buy more Avon if I ever saw a rep or a campaign book. Boy those campaigns fly by. Country, do you have contact many people, for example at work or church, which would be your customer base? Some place to put your books out for people to pick up?

Unless things have changed--and I don't think they have--your friend's daughter will get some sort of reward for recruiting you, but she does not get any portion of your sales. Also--unless things have changed--there are representative meetings to attend to learn about new products, Christmas merchandise, fragrance introductions, etc.

I don't expect to get rich or make a killing even. Just thought it'd give me something to do, since I'm not working. From what I've read and heard, so much of it is done online now days. They even ship directly to the customer. You have a website and people can order and pay from there. I have neighbors that I'm sure would order and I have friends and family that could take the brochures to where they work.

I just talked to a friend of mine and she said there was an ad in Sundays paper about selling Avon and getting started for $10.00!! For me, it's not the $5.00...it's the idea that this girl isn't telling me the truth..and I hate for someone to lie to me! I'd rather sign up online and pay the $20.00 than sign up face to face and hand someone an extra $5.00..ya know?

CB, I sell Avon. I'm in Canada. When I started 5 years ago, I had responded to an ad that stated it was free to start up and I got $40.00 worth of products. The products ended up being 20 brochures, some samples and some other avon stationary. I sell it to co-workers and friends and as long as the orders cover what I buy for myself I'm happy. I had some customers buy online and then put my phone # down on the bottom, so I got the credit for it, but, the one lady said the shipping cost was $4.95 and then she was bombarded with emails from avon. She has since just started calling me again and I deliver it to her. I tend to buy their surprise boxes which are a hit and miss, and when I find I have to much product, I have a $2.00 sale. Its a good way to get rid of stuff, my co- workers love it. Good company, good products, I say go for it.

I agree,Kat. I've been looking at information and I've found several places that state the start-up fee is $10 OR $15, so maybe she's right.
