Anyone Here Sell Avon?

Believe me..this is not an "ad"...I'm just wanted to verify some information. I'm kind of hee-hawing with the idea of selling it. Everything I've read says you can start with $10.00. So, I called a friends DD (that sells it) and she's suppose to come by here Saturday to talk to me about it. SHE'S telling me it's $15.00 to start! WTH? I told her I thought it was $10.00 and she tells me they changed it.?? So I call Avon's 800 number and ask. The guy tells me it's $10.00. So now I'm confused and wondering if this gal is lying to me. If she is lying and just trying to make an extra $5.00 off me..she's pressed my BS button! I hate being lied to!!

So...anyone know?

I used to...I don't even remember a buy in..if it was it was around what you are saying..that was like 16 years ago..

I'd find someone else to go "in" under. :)

I really do love the company and a lot of the products..hardest part was NOT spending what you made on product yourself!..

I've tossed the idea of doing it again in my brain once or twice over the last 2 or 3 years..

This site says the initial sign-up fee is $20.

This site says, "The kits cost $10 to sign up locally face to face or $20 to sign up online. The difference between the two is the cost of shipping the kit to your home. "

We were talking about this last week at a meeting I was at. Evidently, you have to guarantee a minimum of $1500 dollars to get to walk, and then there's also a registration fee of $50+ to enter. The problem is that the money you raise may not be used locally. Talk to your legislatures and walking organizations, call the main county newspaper and talk to the events columnist...ask them about charity walks that are done locally, there will likely be a few that they can lead you to. This way you can still do the walking, you don't have a huge $$$ commitment and the money you raise is used for people in your area. Here is a link that might be useful: Avon 3 Day

Did anyone else have trouble accessing the website that Mark Macey posted? It's unavailable to me - but I could access his email address (didn't try to send a message, though - didn't have anything to say: O.K., I know that sounds strange from loquacious joyful). hollyj3, Often when you sell goods, you must first buy them, pay shipping, store them, lose some to deterioration, have money tied up in inventory, pay insurance, shipping to customer, worry about getting paid, etc. Some companies offering goods will drop ship, so that avoids inventory problems for you - but few companies do the shipping themselves, they farm it out to others, who charge substantial fees. All of which increases the price of the goods. Especially if you've been recruited by others, who also get a small piece of the action. As quite a few have said - often MLM products are overpriced, for the reasons alluded to above. You can't ship products over the internet - but you can sure as heck transfer ideas using that method. The internet is a great place to move ideas from person to person. Do you have a skill or knowledge that others would like to have if they knew about it, that you can make available to people? Developing the idea takes some time, effort and emotional energy. It may involve some time to do research, etc., though often that will develop in bite-size pieces as you go. Once your information is gathered and assembled in a professional way, it's no trouble to duplicate it. And no additional cost tied up in inventory. All that you must do is send the messages over the internet. Very simple. Once the information is in place, you have three problems: *how are you going to let potential clients know that your service is available, and *that it is of such superior quality that they should ask for your product rather than similar types of information offered by others? *Third is that you have to arrange for transfer of the money from the client to you. Sorry - you can't ship it over the internet - though there are agencies that will look after the transfer (for a fee, of course, which you may or may not feel is at a justifiable level). If you look at "Organizing the Home"(?), I think it's "bouncing pig" that's been working as a power seller on ebay, and recently was working on an idea of helping people organize their home, with a friend, but is backing down, as she feels that the friend (of many years) is too controlling. She has an idea for selling goods that she makes on the internet. I took a ride to American Granite today. What a difference in the showroom compared to Benchmark. Carlos and Rebecca were both helping me, and very nice. I saw one that I liked with the colors of my cabinets and floor. I'm doing a small condo kitchen that's across the street from the beach, that I'm moving to as my primary residence. The granite I saw was Juparana Columbo, it reminded me of the sand when it get the dark grey streaks in it. I like the slab, they only had one (which is all I need) that was in the light muted colors. All the others with the same name were from a different lot and were much darker and a redish peach. I'm just not sure I like the pattern of the slab. I took pictures, and thought I had a picture of the whole slab, but I only got parts of it. I wonder if Carlos would be able to take a picture of the whole slab and email it to me. Asked about a sink, and was told it would be about $200.00 additional. Benchmark was including a 16 gauge SS D-sink. Has anyone heard of AW Eurostile in Ocean or a place in Shrewsbury (not sure of the name)? I'm trying to avoid going to OHM, I think it might be too overwhelming, and I'll never be able to make a decision. I'd rather stay with smaller places. Since I retired I took up photography as a hobby. I have bought nearly all of my photo equipment on Ebay or the Goodwill Industries auction (www.shopgoodwill.com). When I am looking for a specific lens or accessory I look for an older camera that is listed with extra lenses and accessories. If the group contains any of the items I need I buy the set, keep what I need then sell the rest on Ebay as individual items. I am not gonna say that I have made a lot of money, but I have saved a pile of money getting the things I want in this manner. Fortunately all the products I am selling will fit in the USPS Priority mail boxes so I know ahead of time exactly what the shipping charges will be, and if you pay the postage online the postoffice will pick the item up at your house. That makes it very easy. I would offer one word of caution. If you are going to do business online open a separate checking account just for your business and list it with PayPal. With PayPal the customer never gets your bank info. They pay PayPal, which in turn deposits in your account and you can confirm receipt of the payment even before you ship the item. By having the separate account, even if a hacker were to hack into the account, the most they could get is your hobby money, not your household budget money in your primary account.

Sorry to semi-hijack your thread, Bump, but from a little different viewpoint ...

... we bought some Avon shares back in the mid 60s, for our kids.

I think that we bought about 3 shares for Kathryn, and 6 for Bruce, using their Family Allowance, which was then $6.00 per month, $72.00 per year, and a share cost about $75. Bruce, born abroad, didn't become Canadian resident until he was nearly 2, but we just added the extra to buy a share a year for him, as well. Down payment on their post-secondary education ... or a start in what they chose to do, as they became adults.

A bonus was that, even with those few shares, we not only received a dividend, but each year received 2 samples of their newly introduced lines ... which were nice presents for in-laws, outlaws, etc.

Sue and I parted about four years later and I don't know what happened after that, but I think that their value had almost doubled in those four years.

I worked for Avon years ago, not as a rep but in one of their regional offices. It was a great place to work. I would buy more Avon if I ever saw a rep or a campaign book. Boy those campaigns fly by. Country, do you have contact many people, for example at work or church, which would be your customer base? Some place to put your books out for people to pick up?

Unless things have changed--and I don't think they have--your friend's daughter will get some sort of reward for recruiting you, but she does not get any portion of your sales. Also--unless things have changed--there are representative meetings to attend to learn about new products, Christmas merchandise, fragrance introductions, etc.

I like their products.

I don't expect to get rich or make a killing even. Just thought it'd give me something to do, since I'm not working. From what I've read and heard, so much of it is done online now days. They even ship directly to the customer. You have a website and people can order and pay from there. I have neighbors that I'm sure would order and I have friends and family that could take the brochures to where they work.

I just talked to a friend of mine and she said there was an ad in Sundays paper about selling Avon and getting started for $10.00!! For me, it's not the $5.00...it's the idea that this girl isn't telling me the truth..and I hate for someone to lie to me! I'd rather sign up online and pay the $20.00 than sign up face to face and hand someone an extra $5.00..ya know?

CB, I sell Avon. I'm in Canada. When I started 5 years ago, I had responded to an ad that stated it was free to start up and I got $40.00 worth of products. The products ended up being 20 brochures, some samples and some other avon stationary. I sell it to co-workers and friends and as long as the orders cover what I buy for myself I'm happy. I had some customers buy online and then put my phone # down on the bottom, so I got the credit for it, but, the one lady said the shipping cost was $4.95 and then she was bombarded with emails from avon. She has since just started calling me again and I deliver it to her. I tend to buy their surprise boxes which are a hit and miss, and when I find I have to much product, I have a $2.00 sale. Its a good way to get rid of stuff, my co- workers love it. Good company, good products, I say go for it.

I agree,Kat. I've been looking at information and I've found several places that state the start-up fee is $10 OR $15, so maybe she's right.
