The golf gps was a tremendous surprise. His secretary had the gift on his desk when he arrived at work.

Haven't talked with him, as we're playing phone tag, but he left a very long message telling me he was absolutely floored with the gift.

He has been wanting one.

Did tell him in an email, that he can upgrade to the U2 or U3 if he wants to.

He well deserved a nice gift as he's been so good to me over all the years.

I've been really good to a number of people over the years but cannot imagine receiving such a generous gift. LOL

I would be floored, too. Personally, I don't think the upgrade is necessary but I do have a friend that has the more expensive one and she loves hers. I bought mine last year...a gift from me to me for my 75th along with a new set of clubs. I had a hard time rationalizing the cost of even the cheaper one when you can get a GPS for half the price, but I'm glad I got this one. I know he'll enjoy it.

ok what is a golf gps?? is it for once a month if he's lucky or hard core?? i'm always looking for Christmas things to surprise dh!

Wish I would have caught your post the other day. Being in a similar situation with my dad being terminal as well as my hub having a similar cancer my suggestion would have been a gasoline gift card if you felt like bringing something. Cancer eats up every dollar you have. You use a lot of gas; money for scripts; some places you have to pay to park. Back when my dad's cancer came back; his rescue squad friends had a lunch for him. He had retired a few years before his terminal diagnosis. He devoted his life to the rescue squad in the town our business was in; 30 minutes from home. The lunch was so that everyone could see him again to say good bye. It turned out that 2 of his friends passed away unexpectedly; one 2 weeks later; another 3 months later.

With both of my parents now gone and all but one child in the group now college age or older, we decided to do a swap starting last year. We had a no gift cards rule (one per immediate family if you were really hurting for ideas) -- otherwise it would be a $20 gift card swap with no fun or immagination at all. In our swap, if your gift is stolen, you can pick any opened or wrapped gift other than the one that was just taken from you. Since this wasn't a work related party, if the game went longer, that was fine with us. More laughs makes a fun time. Ours went well and we are doing the same thing this year. Last years hits included a themed Christmas ornament, a "Lime in the Coconut" apron from Woot, some gifts with paper made from pachyderm poo (they also had chocolate bars, so not sure which was the attraction), a calendar made with family photos -- really, all of them got plenty of action and attention. I think a true white elephant can be fun at work, but dangerous with family unless you are really good at remembering where every gift came from. Even then, the person who gave it to you might have gotten it from someone else in the group and even more folks get offended.

No they don't have a fit when we take them...but they sniff around the area hunting them. Then they look at me like "what'd ya do with it?" They did bring in a live bird once.That was chaos! Me chasing the bird,the dogs chasing after me....but we managed to get it out the door.Mostly though it's things that are already dead. Emmie caught a big dove once though.It was hysterical! Little Emmie with a dove in her mouth by the tail end,the dove flapping it's wings...I thought it would fly away with her.I yelled "Drop It!" though and she did.It took off so I don't think she hurt it.And once Mic caught a lizard,saw him walking proudly around with a head out the side of his mouth and a tail out the other side.But he dropped it too when I yelled,it ran away.Best thing I taught my dogs..."Drop It!" :) No snakes or other critters so far. Doggie TV! They keep me entertained.

I still wouldn't have said anything about it, because as I said before, my dad would have killed him. There is not a single doubt in my mind about that. He could be very irrational and I had seen him in action before. If the doctor hadn't ended up dead, at the very least, my dad would have been in jail. The person I was as an 18 yr old, small town girl, is very different from the person I am now. I have been hit on by men for most of my life....I could handle it and did. No big deal. I didn't have to make a big deal out of it to put them in their place. I remember one guy coming by my barn and asking about buying a pony I had. Not for sale. Then he noticed my ponds and asked about them. Thinking I had someone who really was interested in fish and waterlilies (ha!) I got some fish food and we walked out to the ponds, and I extoled the virtues of the various types of waterlilies and koi. Then he said, "I would like to make love to you." (Hey, what? I thought we were talking about waterlilies.) I said "I'm not interested." He said "I would like to make love to you, not f*** you." I said again, "I am not interested." He said, "Oh well, some people like green beans and some people like carrots." I said, "I like green beans, but I have green beans at home." End of conversation.....and end of pond tour.
