Another surprise from Lowes
Comments (18)Hey Guys, I was at Lowes today and they moved the rack of misguided amaryllis to the back! I stole pollen...is that illegal?? Anyway, they had 2 of these Deep Red blooms winding out of boxes, their back petals were white splashed with greed mid ribs, but center flowers were deep red to like red/black throats. They were so stressed, poor babies. They were in Red Lion boxes, but next to the other pathetic orangey/red Lions, they were definately NOT RLs...so ok I stole pollen!! lol Wonder what they are...I was on another mission so I didn't barter or try to get an Ami deal, I just stole pollen!...See MoreYet Another Surprise (Pictures) :)
Comments (6)Thank you, everyone! It is definitely a welcome surprise here in my garden :). Terrene, the chrysalis on the bird feeder is still green (it's in my bedroom on the floor, by the window). I found another one yesterday under the little wooden porch where I keep my houseplants outside for the spring and summer. There were 5 cats that I found on my tropcial milkweed and I'm thinking that these three are from that group. LOL I've been hooked on butterflies for a long time! Between them and winter sowing, it's hard to say what I get more enthusiastic about!!!! Brad AKA Moonwolf...See MoreAnother Surprise...
Comments (22)Eli, Beachplant is right - growing outside is as good as it gets. You get all you need in your environment and rain. I grow my Hoyas in coir and perlite - coir has no beneficial nutrients at all, so I have to use something to "feed" my plants. What makes VF-11 different, as it points out on the website, is that it's not a "push" like most fertilizers. I love it. Mike, I've ordered it all times of year and havn't had a problem, but if it's bitterly cold, you might want to wait until a warmer spell... Beachplant, I've never used traditional fertilizers in the winter months, but because VF-11 doesn't push the plants to grow (it only makes them healthier/stronger), I use it on all my plants (including succulents and those that are completely dormant) all year long. Denise in Omaha...See MoreAnother surprise delivery
Comments (2)mnwgal, thanks for your ideas. All of the plants were starting to bud. I went to Menards and got a dozen 12-inch plastic pots that were on sale. Have blueberry, raspberry, and roses potted up and at every window. It is so gloomy in Duluth in the spring, I hope they get enough sun light. The weather is going to be in the teens at night for who knows how long, and so outside does not seem to be an option. I hope they make it. I can always use more berries and roses....See MoreGeorgysmom
