Isn't he just AMAZING? And not an ounce of fat on him. Plus, he loves his Momma! I am so proud of him....I can only imagine how his Momma is about to bust!

I'm still ticked about Nastia Liukin losing the Gold on the uneven bars. But at least she was extremely gracious about it. Plus she's obviously over 16.

These Olympics have been fabulous but I'm seriously sleep deprived! lol

I know I'm getting old when I watch Michael and think, "He must have really built up his cardiovascular system." *L*

I'm glad his family was able to be there to see him win.

He is amazing...and so is his mother. Rather than resort to medication for his ADD, they channeled his energies into something productive. Now he will be a multimillionaire, and I'm sure his mother will never want for a thing. They deserve everything they get. A wonderful success story. Not to mention how proud he has made his country!

Ahhh.. I'm with Jen_Tx. I need to catch up with sleep somehow too! And, I think both girls in Gymnastic should have gotten gold. They worked so hard for it.

I love watching the olympic and Michael Phelps too. I get such mixed emotions, crying and laughing all at the same time. LOL... I'm running out of cleenex!

Aren't those medals beautiful? Thanks for posting that ntt_hou. It was nice to see them up close and also to see how pretty the back is. It is just so wonderful how devoted those athletes are. The pressure has to be enormous. I'd either faint or throw up! lol

Good for him! He must be in fantastic shape. BTW what ever happened to Mark Spitz who won a lot of gold medals in swimming many years ago?

yeah, I remember in 1972 when Mark Spitz won seven gold medals. We put his poster up in our dorm, with the medals around his neck just like MP. At the time, Mark was a student in dental school. I recently heard he is a "Motivational Speaker" (whatever that is) and was miffed that NBC and the Olympics didn't invite him to go to China as a commentator or analyst.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the Sports Illustrated Cover Shot? With the way the medals are arranged, I think he looks like he's wearing a female belly dancer top. Not too flattering for him, IMHO...

Michael seems to be a nice young man and I am sure his Mom is very proud of him. As for 'us' Marylanders, we are very proud.
There may be a parade for Michael when he comes back to the States, possibly Labor Day weekend and I am going to try and go. I will share pics with everyone :-)

I heard he had a 23" waist. Can that be true? I'm soooooooooooo jealous! :-)

I don't think his waist could be 23... Maybe the numbers were transposed; I would guess his waist would be closer 32 maybe even a little bigger. He's built too well and too strong to have a 23 inch waist. I think it appears smaller than it really is because of his broad shoulders.

You're right, Carla! I looked online this morning and he has a 32" waist. Meredith on the Today Show must have transposed the numbers. I am still jealous of a 32" waist!

I don't see any other good way to wear 8 gold medals, really. The photo mimics the Mark Spitz poster. I think the cover is gorgeous. And I'm so happy for him and the family.

I saw Mark Spitz on Fox and Friends yesterday morning, he's looking pretty darn good. He held that record a good long time and he should be very proud of himself and ready to hand it on.

I hope Michael gets a good agent and a great investment manager that doesn't rip him off. He's going to have a lot of money really soon. I hope it doesn't change him, he seems very sweet.

I don't know, every time I pull up the Phelps picture I still think he looks like he's in drag. I think the solid red ribbons with red background sorts of adds to the effect, and the far placement of the ribbons covering almost all of his chest makes it look like a girl's top to me. I think Spitz's main picture just used the chains so you can see more of his chest. I guess it's just me, though.

I think Michael Phelps looks great with his medals. I agree, a different color background would look less jarring but I prefer Michael's pic over Mark Spitz. The chains just scream Mr. T or that awful 70's silky shirt with chains look. Both men have much to be proud of though. Way to Goooooo!

Interesting that Marks Spitz hands are above his navel, and Michael's hands are well below. I guess Michael is very long waisted! I think Spitz is sexier looking, but I'm thinking Michael is more pleasant and family oriented. Don't know why, maybe just watching his Momma watch him and beam so.
