Girl's Day Out and my first ever ...

Because my joints have gotten so stiff and painful, for now I can't drive, or walk any distance, and I hope that is going to be helped when I go to the Pain Management Clinic for treatment later this month.

I have needed a haircut for some time now, so my DD and DGD managed have the same day off, and we had a great Girl's Day Out yesterday. Even the weather cooperated and it was a beautiful day. First my DD took me for a much needed haircut, then we met my DGD.

I can no longer twist and bend to reach my toes to trim the nails. I have never had a pedicure and that has been on my to-do list for a while.

So that is what we did. We each had a pedicure. I had no idea what I had been missing! We sat next to each other, in huge leathery chairs, with our feet in nice warm water, with a massage thingy relaxing our backs. Friendly pedicurists (is that the right word?) enjoyed the idea of having 3 generations at one time, so there was a lot of conversation and humor going on. I have never had such fantastic foot treatment. It won't be the last time either; that is for sure.

Next we went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. I had chicken dumplings, corn muffins, mac n cheese and fried apples, half of which I brought home. Guess what I'm having for dinner?

A little pampering goes a long way! Try it; you'll like it!

Good for you, Sue. I'm glad you have a thoughtful daughter and granddaughter to want to do this for and with you. I wish you all the best with the pain management.

oh, Kathleen, it might be better than you imagine. I think they last about 1 1/2 hours. Depends on time outs etc. Years ago I didn't give a hoot about sports. Finally was compelled to go because youngest is an all sports kid. She plays in school and took me to college games too. I prefer college game over high school. Not as rough, they seem to play cleaner, while jr High and high school is soooo rough! DD played an advanced team last summer and I got to know the rules and the plays so much better which helped me to enjoy what I was seeing. It's as though all of us parents watched for the great plays and lousy calls. I didn't holler in disgust but some parents where pretty good at it! lol! I was good at cheering them on, our girls actually asked us to be louder so they could hear us as they ran. Guess I'm saying, the more you understand what's happening the better the game! Hope you do have fun even if it's just watching the girls enjoy it. :) Their time here is half over by now I'm guessing. What have you gotten from this experience?

I dont think they are supposed to be interested in siblings. However I counted about 7 of what look to be eggs on the screen today. I thought the females laid hundreds of eggs so 7 seems odd. Maybe its something else but we just built the habitat and its brand new screen and theres definitely something on it.

Just to add plenty of room for discussion on the merits and de-merits of kumquat edibility, I agree with johnmerr on the edibility of the nagami and on the difficulty of de-seeding kumquats in general but I have found the meiwa to be mostly sweet and with a tiny sour finish. I made a reference to the sweet kumquat (meiwa) a number of years ago and a member from California disagreed that even the meiwa could be considered sweet....I forget her name..(I found it..Patty S.)...she was VERY knowledgeable and I miss her presence. Certainly we know the growing conditions influence the flavor of the fruit but I was surprised it would vary enough to render the meiwa a sour fruit.

What a great day. You are so lucky.

I only have boys and as much as I love them I occasionally miss not having those girl times. One of their girlfriends told me the other day how nice I looked and I'm like "what, who me?" preening a little bit.

Make sure you have more of those days.

Those are the best kind of days!
I don't get to go for pedicures very often these days but I sure do enjoy them when I do. Definitely worth the effort and money.

I think that would be a hoot for the staff, having 3 generations at once. Your daughter and grand-daughter obviously love you very much and want to be with you!

I'll bet your tootsies are as cute as can be. :D

That was so nice to have a great day with DD and DGD.

I've never had a pedicure but am looking forward to one soon. My DGD just graduated cosmetology school and got her license and is setting up a shop in her hometown, just 20 mi. from us.

I have trouble getting to my feet to cut my nails and am looking forward to having someone do it for me and to help her get started in her profession. She had an opportunity to buy one of those chairs when she first started school.

Sue, isn't a pedicure fantastic? Had my first one last month and I hope to get another one Saturday. I'm glad you enjoyed the whole day having a great time with your DD and DGD.
P.S. My toes still look pretty good a month later.

Pattie, yes, fantastic. And you are entitled to have as many as you want, to cheer you along the path you are on now.

And you know what? I have had the best day today that I have had in a long time. Yesterday was grocery shopping, which always wears me out, but by today I was even washing windows!

Donna, you are lucky to have your own DD to do your tootsies.

I am so grateful to have "my kids" around. My DD lives about 5 miles from me, and she does so much for me, and she won't ever let me repay her for anything, so I checked out first at the nail place and I paid for hers. HA! gotcha! My DGD lives about 30 minutes away; she is the "cupcake girl," and we had such a good time and the girls were so much fun, she went by on Tuesday and took them cupcakes.

Speaking of paying though, the pedicures were only $20 each. I have friends who have a girl come to their house and do a pedicure, and she charges $45. And of course, she doesn't have one of those massage chairs.

If you have never had a pedicure, do yourself a favor. Get one!

I get pedicures every month for the entire sandal season. I have been doing this for years. I always feel so pampered getting the foot and leg massage.
