Emotional day for me :o(

Went to visit dearest friend, 84, who is now under Hospice care.

She's on oxygen, bedridden, cannot understand her when she tries so hard to speak.

I took her a hot dog, just cause, she loves hot dogs, and what she had the last time we went out for lunch. You could see the sparkle in her eyes when I told her what I brought.

Had to cut visit short as lady from Hospice arrived.

May my dear friend, Bea, find her place in heaven soon.

Bea is in the middle when we attended a luncheon with Paula Deen years ago.

I know how hard it is having just been through it recently. She's in good hands with hospice until she gets to the best hands of all. (((Glenda)))

Sorry to hear your friend is so ill. Curious, why did you feel like you had to leave just because Hospice lady arrived? Will keep her in my prayers.

Treasure, good way to phrase it. I have been into genealogy for at least a dozen years. I have the privilege of having my parents until late middle age, but not having lived in proximity of my extended family for most of my life, knew precious little about them aside from disjointed snippets of my folk's recollections. There was a void I needed to fill. I can only imagine how it must have affected you and of course it was emotional. Copy those pictures as quickly as possible and share them with every relative you know. When I used to go to auctions, there were often boxes of family photos in the mix to be lost forever. There are also people who keep family photos to themselves and won't share, thinking they'll be safe forever. It only takes one generation down the line for them to be lost. My cousin out west and I had both started on a crusade to contact as many cousins and distant relatives as possible and get copies of photos they may each have in their possession and make them available in digital format to any of our kin. The more they're shared, the better chance they have of being preserved for posterity. I'm so happy for you.

Kylie, I love that picture of your GD!!!! I know....I did not look that cute with the frog in my hair! LOL!!! Amelia....You are so funny! I actually thought about taking it back but did not want to drive back there. I thought about giving it to the neighbor kids. I usually take my snake skins to them as they love that kind of stuff! Kristy...I will try and get a pic for ya. I don't know exactly what kind of snail it is. I was surprised for such a little frog...how high and far it could jump and how much energy it had. Of course he may have been freaked out cuz he did not like my driving skills! LOL!! Karyn, We have an edition across the street that has a huge pond built all around the neighborhood. OK, this is not what you are going to want to hear so stop now if you want a soft touch. You need to focus on your alcoholism, get treatment, get sober and focus soley on maintaining your sobriety before you can even think clearly about relationship issues. Just like I cannot make a decision (and trust me I am incapable of it right now) until I have dealt with my current depression. Now is the time to put your well being first and get the help you need. Yes, you are married and should know that if something happened to your DH you would not be homeless. But you are married not living together right? I would think if your DH died you would get the house. I understand this as our current home has never had my name on it, however I know if we weren't together I would have never stayed there anyway, so for me it wasn't a issue as much as it was never considered my home-I just lived there. This however seems the least of your problems. I think you need to believe in yourself and do what you need to do get well first and foremost. When he sees you putting your self first he will either follow suit and realize what a treasure you are or you will get on with your life, sober & happy. Oh, boy, can I relate to this!! I've also been looking at on petfinders. I had talked to this one lady via e-mail at length, have filled out the application first of the week, and still nothing. I had also seen a poster at my vet's office. This was local and I called and made arrangements for the lady to come to my home, bring the dog and see if we were "approved". Each time I'd get so excited about the dog coming over, but she called and rescheduled twice!!!!! The last time I told her I was just going to go to the shelter and see what they had. You would think they would jump all over anyone willing to take these dogs and give them good homes!!!! We found one through our local shelter that is in a foster home. He is special needs as he is sight-impaired. He also has a horrible ear infection that has not cleared up. He is a pekingese and a very sweet and loving dog. My husband and I have an empty nest now, and my sister says I just need someone else to take care of! We already have 1 dog and 3 cats. I'm a little nervous about taking on this dog's health issues, but I think we can handle it.

You say she can't speak clearly;
can she write on a notepad?

She looks like a lovely person, & I know she must be by the love & anguish in your heart I can "feel" in your post.

Bea is a total invalid! Can do nothing for herself.

She had a wonderful full life and has such a loving son, two excellent sitters, and now Hospice.

I'm sure it was a shock to see her so helpless. It's so hard to hold it together in situations like that. And thoughts of that person just keep coming into your mind and make you sad all over again. At least that was my experience. Hopefully, she is comfortable and I'm sure she was happy to see you. (((Glenda)))

So sorry this is happening. Glad you were able to bring a sparkle to her eyes! Was she able to eat any of the hot dog? I wonder if she might like books on tape? She looks familiar. I'm sure I have seen her picture on here before. Is she the lady you sometimes have Thanksgiving with?

She's been bedridden for quite some time, completely dependent on other's for her every needs.

Just knowing that her "time" is near, with Hospice just this week.

It will be a blessing for her when she is at peace and with her husband and daughter forever in a place where there's no pain and suffering.

Glenda, take some solace in knowing that Hospice means kind loving care for your friend and they will make sure she stays comfortable. It sounds like you have had some wonderful times together. I hope she finds peace soon. Satine

Can you tell us more about your friend, Glenda? Was she also a teacher? Is she a widow? Does she have grandchildren? Is she a good cook, like you?

She had a wonderful prosperous husband. She never worked.
One son, two daughters. Husband has been gone 8 years and a daughter that died 10ish years ago.

Wonderful caring person that always had a smile.

First great grandchild born in June.

Glenda I am glad you got to spend some time with your friend. Taking the hotdog shows what a good friend you are and how you definitely put her needs and feelings first at this difficult time. I'm sure you brightened her day.

Has she gotten to see her great-grandchild?

Has anyone taken a photo of her with the baby?

That would mean a lot to that baby about 40 years from now.

I'm so sorry about your friend. You are so kind to visit and bring her a hot dog. May she pass quietly. Hospice is wonderful-bith my parents had their care.

The hot dog was just a gentle reminder of the last time we went out for lunch, few years back. Made her smile.

I had to feed her then the hot dog :o(

All I could understand about the great grandchild was that it was born in June, and a boy.

Do know they live in S Carolina. And didn't get to talk with her son, as he was busy with the caregiver and when we left he was talking with the lady from Hospice.

Glenda, I so admire you going to see your friend.
I was a Hospice nurse and it was sad to see how many of my patients were not visited by their long time friends.....I guess they didn't want to feel discomfort. (And family, too, sometimes.)
It is very difficult to see someone you have been friends with for so long become so dependent.
You are a good friend......and you brought back some cherished memories for her near the end.

I agree about Hospice. It is a wonderful program. Although my mom had to be in a home the last few years (needed round the clock care and often two people to get her up), hospice was there and so helpful and caring.

I am sorry to hear about your friend Glenda. I hope she has found peace and her passing comes painlessly.
