What Not to Wear show

Do you watch What Not to Wear? I catch it every now and then, but I am often quite disappointed in how they outfit the subject of the makeover. In fact, sometimes I don't really care for the show hostess' outfit either. I know they pick subjects that may not have ideal figures, and that is good. But why do they have so much trouble making them look nice? Do they have just their immediate neighborhood of mini shoppes for selecting the wardrobe? What?

I don't know the answer to your question but my dh and I watch the show together whenever we catch it on. I told him if_he_ever submits my name to that show, I will leave him right after I kill him. :-)

I am more interested in the hair styles given these women. Most of them are great improvements.

Great suggestions, I will see about One if by Land and the Greek restaurant, both sound good! Have used Open Table for several years and love it---it is invaluable when planning family trips especially. I like the security of a reservation! I don't know if I will get to MOMa this time, I wanted to see the exhibit of politically influenced architecture and urban planning but have been totally turned off by the holier than thou video that begins by slamming ikea on Moma's website. It's just ridiculous. May just throw caution to the winds and shop the whole time instead. I am shallow, I find shopping culturally fulfilling, lol. Will undoubtedly end up at ABC but admit my favorite store is still Gracious Home. The Third Ave. location is just a few blocks from our old apt and I think I have spent more time there than any other store in NYC except the button store, which sadly has been gone from 61st St. (near Bloomingdales) for many years and I still miss it. Have not been to Le Bernardin literally for 20 years! Have not been to the current incarnation of Le Cirque and thought that might be fun if I can talk anyone into going.

you have a relatively soft floor. Generally a shinier floor will show more 'wear' as you define it. Its supposed to show character so picking the floor you did I wouldn't be too concerned about dents and dings, it just adds 'character' to your flooring.

I would have responded EXACTLY as Metfan did! You don't need to be real dressy unless you're going to a very special restaurant for dinner. Then, you would want to change into a real dressy outfit. Remember to keep your head warm, you'll be outside a lot, walking around. You'll need to keep your head and ears covered we sure are having that cold spell Metfan mentioned! I hope you'll enjoy NYC, its the very nicest place to be during the Holiday season.

I hate hats too and living in SD there are times in the winter when I need one but my head itches so bad I cant stand them. As for hair extensions, no I wouldnt. I would never spend that kind of money on it for one thing and it would drive me nuts when my head itches like it does all the time. I worked with a girl who had them. She was half white and half black. She spent a lot of money to have them put in. This was when she was in high school. Then she couldnt afford to have themmaintained so you could always see the little rubber band things in her hair and it really looked stupid. Now she is attending hairdresser college and she has them in again and I still dont like them.So NO not for me.

exactly...and always putting them in those aweful high heel shoes...i'd break a leg wearing them...and lets face it, if i were given 5 grand to spend, i'd end up with a LOT more clothes than they do! granted i shop at wal mart, lol or catalog...

I don't like their outfits at all. The layered look just isn't my idea of good fashion. I don't like Stacy saying "shut up" when she sees something she likes. I also wouldn't be caught dead in some of those shoes. If she came to my house, I would have nothing left to wear. I also don't buy expensive clothes and would resent only having a few things in my closet to wear at the end.

Some of those people almost have meltdowns when they go to checkout and the short leather jacket they selected is $750. But it goes great with the $250 jeans and the $150 peep toe pumps! Yeah, right. At least they get some opened toe shoes on there now, I absolutely HATE those extremely pointy toe shoes. They look like witch shoes.

I can't imagine that I will ever, ever spend even $500 on a coat/jacket, I don't care what it's made of. lol

Have you ever noticed how many of the contestants say "I like to be comfortable" and the hosts "harumph" at them.

Why can't good looking clothes be comfortable? Why do designers believe that womens pants and shirts must be tightly fitted so that you cannot breath when you sit down. Why must dressy shoes have thin cardboard soles with no foot support? Or worse yet- have heels that are over 2" tall?

Don't even get me started on trying to find a WARM winter coat. It seems that folks in NYC only dress to run from the cab to the train to the office.

I used to watch that show alot, but not so much anymore. One thing that always made me laugh is that Stacy and the guy host (name?) think women should dress up every time they run to the grocery store, or in fact every time they go outside! You got to be kidding. Who really does that? I mean, I take off dirty or muddy clothes, but I don't dress to the nines to run down to the market for a few items.
