What to wear in NYC for Christmas show?

Going to NYC for first time ever. It will be very cold for this S. Texan. What is the appropriate dress for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular? My husband thinks real dressy...I was hoping a Christmas sweater and slacks. Help!

You are correct. A nice sweater and slacks is very much appropriate. I'm not sure how soon you are going, but right now we are having a cold wave. This week, the high temps are only in the 30's and they are calling for some snow on Thursday. Also, you will want to wear comfortable shoes because walking around the city at Christmas time is the best! I hope you are planning on seeing some of the store windows. It will be very crowded, but fun. Enjoy!

Thanks for your response. I'm excited about being in NYC for Christmas and will definitely see the store windows and the usual tourist events.
We leave this Friday and will be there for 3 days. The snow sure scares me a bit--we haven't had any snow here for nearly 20 years! I hate to spend too much money to stay warm in NYC; but I want to be comfortable! I appreciate the information!

Thanks Susie :D This cheers me up,too! Hey Kirk, that's what the tree looked like when I was growing up. We planted hundreds and hundreds with our mother it seemed like,even staying out in the woods til well past dark with all sorts of wild animals jumping around at us out there,(back then it was moonshiners you ran into on your property, now it's meth labs) and it was scary when you're only about 6 or 7 years old! I never inherited my mother's ability or want, to wander alone in the woods til wee hours of the morning. After I was married and lived here, we still cut down our own trees, until trespassers stole all of them(to sell, I guess)one year. Some grew back up from the trunks, but we didn't feel like fooling with them any more after that. The smell is great, there's no comparison to a live tree, but we broke down and got an ARTIFICIAL pre-lit one :D lol Too many allergies, they dried out quickly,too. Boy could I tell you some FUNNNNY stories us and the kids endured with live trees ( one year involving a crazy Himalayan cat we had :D ) I can't wait til next Christmas!oh and I see Carol's tree skirt! Great suggestions, I will see about One if by Land and the Greek restaurant, both sound good! Have used Open Table for several years and love it---it is invaluable when planning family trips especially. I like the security of a reservation! I don't know if I will get to MOMa this time, I wanted to see the exhibit of politically influenced architecture and urban planning but have been totally turned off by the holier than thou video that begins by slamming ikea on Moma's website. It's just ridiculous. May just throw caution to the winds and shop the whole time instead. I am shallow, I find shopping culturally fulfilling, lol. Will undoubtedly end up at ABC but admit my favorite store is still Gracious Home. The Third Ave. location is just a few blocks from our old apt and I think I have spent more time there than any other store in NYC except the button store, which sadly has been gone from 61st St. (near Bloomingdales) for many years and I still miss it. Have not been to Le Bernardin literally for 20 years! Have not been to the current incarnation of Le Cirque and thought that might be fun if I can talk anyone into going.

NHB: it is fine dining and the most special part is the farm to table aspect. Almost all of his suppliers are a few minutes away. Meats, poultry and vegetables, cheese etc all come from right in the area. He is thrilled , to say the least. You can check their blog on the website and see his latest menus and the wine dinner menu. He actually went to the farm that supplies the ducks and geese and he and the owner did the slaughtering right before Thanksgiving. He was able to get tons of fat from the ducks and is in " confit heaven" LOL. Bonnie, caminnc and sandy.....oh my what gorgeous pics. So serene. Beautiful . tina: we travelled up there to see them several times in the year they were there but not in the dead of winter. We loved the area. I am really looking forward to seeing the beautiful scenery of his new location. c

I live in Florida. We actually do occasionally get some "cold" weather but this year it looks like it will be mild. We natives are cold when it gets down to 32. So unless it's a little chilly we will be wearing mild weather clothing with maybe a flannel shirt to knock the chill off in the morning. The rest of the day it is parked on the back of the dining room chair.

I would have responded EXACTLY as Metfan did! You don't need to be real dressy unless you're going to a very special restaurant for dinner. Then, you would want to change into a real dressy outfit.

Remember to keep your head warm, you'll be outside a lot, walking around. You'll need to keep your head and ears covered we sure are having that cold spell Metfan mentioned!

I hope you'll enjoy NYC, its the very nicest place to be during the Holiday season.

Yes, it seems nearly everything we want to do other than the Christmas show is outside in the cold. Thanks for the suggestion about the head! I forget about those things--I bought a muffler today and some gloves. Guess I had better find something for the ears!
