What's for Dinner ... Friday?

Can't believe it's Friday already. And what a picture perfect Friday it is...........sunny, mid 70s, low humidity.

My meal is going to be something very simple. A couple of leafy lettuce roll-ups with lunch-meat and tomatoes, and some pizza. It all just sounded good to me.

So what sounds good to you for your main meal today?

Treated dear friend out for her her 86th birthday.

Well known, established, family Italian restaurant.

I had their side of meatballs with Pomodoro Sauce and freshly grated parmesan. Friend had the spaghetti and meatballs.

As it was her birthday, we were treated to their OMG 3 layer yellow cake with ganache frosting.

Hi Shirley, it's a stunning day here as well, and supposed to last until Tuesday.

I thawed a container of homemade beef stew and we had a cob of corn each (nuked).. It was 20c each and I bought 6 cobs......I should have bought more. We'll be having the other 4 tomorrow.

Hi Shirley, we are at a bar getting set up to play. Before we left I marinated a couple of chicken breast in olive oil lemon juice, dijon and garlic and herbs and put them on the little gril. We had quinoa salad and fresh rolls. We're in for hot humid temperatures this week end.

Its confusing because it goes against what has been the accepted common knowledge since perhaps the early 1800's. The farmers growing them and calling them yams, are wrong. The grocers selling them and calling them yams, are wrong. The companies canning them and labeling them as yams, are wrong. The people who first introduced them to the United States called them yams, perhaps to distinguish them from the different variety of sweet potatoes that were already on the market, they were wrong too. Even some sites on the web that try to explain the difference with helpful images like this one: http://www.frugallivingnw.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/yams-sweet-potatoes-is-there-a-difference-2.jpg are wrong. (hint they are all sweet potatoes, despite their labels) So it is not at all surprising that what I learned at a young age from my mother and grandmother, and which was continually re-enforced every Thanksgiving or every time I visited a grocery store, is wrong. I have never eaten a true yam in my life, and seeing some of the pictures of what a true yam look like, I probably never will. Does it harm me in any way if other people choose to call some varieties of sweet potatoes "yams", no. It merely bothers the pedantic part of me a little when someone asserts something to be a fact, when they are in fact wrong.

Just made some Caesar salad dressing and topped the salad with blackened salmon for DH. I was too tired to eat myself. Maybe in a little bit. Returned home from a golfing trip with the ladies….3 days of golf and late nights. Took one day off except for Mexican train last night and played golf today. Looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Our landlords must have made a stop in Ohio Shirley! That happens to us regularly! LOL Hubby has the urge for a ham, so we bought one today and will have that with some potatoes and green beans tomorrow. I made a pasta salad and my Asian coleslaw.

I just left the doctors office where he scoped my nose and throat again yuck!
So I am picking up my favorite burger baskets for dinner, it's my reward.

Today is DH's birthday. We were going to go to a fancy French restaurant but he wanted to go for Chinese so that's what we did. It's always good and we each have another meal from the leftovers.

It was going to be grilled steak and salad but it's been storming, so I'm letting some homemade pizza dough rise for an unplanned pizza night!

I'm happier with pizza than steak, anytime.

Rhizo homemade pizza sounds wonderful! I've never done it from scratch with pizza dough before. The closest I come is using tortilla shells!

St. Louis Ribs, slow cooked on the grill; fresh wax beans; fried onions and potatoes.

Cloudy all day. The liars at the weather bureau indicated that we would get a half inch of rain. How about 30 minutes of mist?

Intense rays and 100% humidity made it feel much nicer than the stated 80's. Perfect Happy Hour at the sand box. Lobster "sounds" good, but settled for a PBJ. Extra scoops of ice cream will round out the feast.

Glenda: How nice of you to treat your friend. Not only meatballs, spaghetti, but also a great dessert.

Jasdip: Isn't it wonderful to pull your main dish from the freezer? Corn on the cob is a good side to a lot of foods. Haven't had any this year.

Ravencajun: I like your type of a reward. Burgers, plus.......

Georgysmom: Happy Birthday, DH. I'm glad you got to go where you wanted. And take-homes for tomorrow doubles your birthday pleasures.

Kittiemom: Hamburgers just hit the spot once in a while. I really like steamed broccoli. Sometimes I put grated parmesan on it.

Rhizo: Homemade pizza sounds great. (But I'd still want steak, lol).

I have my plate for you to fill with everything but the fried onions.

Old Fixer: I'd love a lobster, but PBJ has its place in life too. Enjoy your ice cream.
