Granlan & Arosegirl I can't imagine how you would feel being violated like that. My car was broken into twice & it was parked about 10' from my bedroom window & my head is right at that window--arghhhh Yes, I did feel violated!

Just keep feeling sad about their filthy hands touching anything and just realized they took most of my sweet Mother's pins which were precious to my heart tho not valuable. ;( I will miss wearing them and knowing they will just be tossed. :(

granlan, I've been reading your threads about your invasion, and feeling so badly that it happened to you. But to read just now how they also took your mother's pins brings tears to my eyes. I'm sorry that you have been subjected to all of this.

Granlan, I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. On top of it all, the bank is charging you to stop payment on the stolen checks.

Have you been a customer there for a while? When you go in on Monday, explain in detail what happened and remind them that the stop-payments aren't because of anything that you did. Ask very nicely if they'd waive the $20 fee. $20 is inconsequential to them, but it's a great deal to you, especially right now. Be very nice but be persistent and see if they won't waive it....it's not as if you left a new box of checks on your car seat and they were stolen.

I'm so sorry. I can only imagine. I've never been robbed. But I've had my car mirror broken off, and my husband's brother and his wife came home after a burglary. All their dressers and drawers had been ransacked. She couldn't bear to wear the clothes the robbers may have touched. And they took only electronics and her jewelry box. She most regretted losing those Sears lockets where they put your childs picture into jewelry or keychains. His sister and husband came home one day to find a robbery ! in progress ! The front door had been broken off the frame (some good locks do) and there were personal belongings scattered on their front yard. They moved shortly after that. Horrible!

FYI: I am a long time customer of my bank and will be asking them to reconsider the fee...never hurts to try. :)

Granlan, I am so sorry to hear of this horrendous crime inflicted on you. How awful.
I recall that you said something about a bike being by the door? So I am assuming it is kids, or ??
Call all the pawn shops within 10 miles of you. There is a good chance you may find your mothers pins, and even your VCR.
The pawn shops here have to give the police a weekly sheet of all pawns that are received, and they are checked against robberies in the area. If they pawn the stuff, they have to show ID.
Many time the police do not have time to do all the match ups, so, put your badge on and you may find your things.
I know from experience, and was able to retrieve a lawnmower doing exactly that.

My heart goes out to you, I am sorry you have had to experience this.

Granlan, remember to keep all receipts for everything you replace. Also keep track of your time involved for cleaning up the place, running around doing things involved in it, and document when you do things like file police reports, notify the bank, etc.

You should also notify the credit bureaus especially if they got anything with your SS # or the like on it. DOUBLE CHECK CREDIT CARDS! Make sure they're all there! Did they get any bank statements, credit card statements or the like? That can cause trouble. Definitely use caution. You might want to talk to the CC companies and if you're in doubt, close the cards and reopen them with a different # (the card companies will do this) to avoid trouble.

I really know the frustration. I remember a month after my break-in when I went to get my electric drill.... and it wasn't there. And I didn't know it until then.

Really sad to lose heirlooms and personal things that are irreplaceable. Best wishes to you and best thoughts your way. Here's hoping the slimeballs get what they deserve. Much pain and sorrow.

I just read the other post. I am so very sorry. I wish I could be there to help you clean up or at least keep you company! Knock on wood, we have never been robbed. My brother has been several times. I told him to quit buying such nice stuff, lol.

I worked for a bank at one point. We waived the fee for a lady who had her car broken into. I am sure your bank will do the same. Please try to get some rest if you can. I sure hope they find those punks.

My dad needed to stop some checks in an account once. I can't remember if he had a fee, but I think what the bank did was to close the account and open a new one. All the checks were flagged and my dad had to ok each one that came in and legitimate checks were paid out of the other account.

I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Oh golly, how awful for you, granlan. Along with trinitytx's suggestion, may I suggest one more piece of advice: check craigslist if you can get access to a computer. The guy down the street found his golfclubs that had been stolen by doing that. Might you consider getting a dog? I'm so sorry for the violation and trouble this has caused you!

My DS offered to come from AZ to stay with me for a few days and to help me replace anything I needed. I'm very blessed. However, I told him I'm going to get through this and try not to worry.

And who wouldn't feel completely safe with her 6' 5" 260lb. son standing beside her? Plus, he could squash them with his size 15 feet! ;o)

Lana, I'm sorry that happened to you again. It's been over 30 years since my home was robbed and I still feel violated from it.
Charlene, I remember you telling us about the attack on you and your dh. That's just beyond horrible. I cannot imagine how frightened you must and been and probably still are. I would be.

It trul;y is upsetting to have someone violate one's private space. I'm sorry that you have had to undergo it.

However, I hope that you aren't living in feear of their return. After all ... why should they? They've been through all of your stuff, so why would they want to come back?

And if their friends have heard of it ... they'll know that the earlier guys got all that would be of interest to them.

So the possibility of someone doing such again in the near future is pretty remote, it seems to me.

Turn on whatever lights that you feel that you need, as you usually do, go to bed when you feel like it ...

... and sleep the sleep of an unperturbed baby.

As if you could!

But ... try, at least.

I can assure you that they have almost absolutely no interest in returning to your place.

Or their friends, either.

And if it made the papers ... why would other potential burglars want to come to your place? Bare of the valuables that they might want.
