As for photos - they prove nothing. Remember how Tahni used to post photos of her "niece" wearing outfits people had sent her? Turned out to be her next door neighbor's kid.

There is a name for this, and it is definitely a possibility on any message board. I've seen it many times.

Just because people question a story doesn't make them mean. The balance is always the risk you'll hurt an innocent person (remember the witch hunt over the anonymous e-mail to RedClayGirl and the accusations towards a totally innocent poster who hadn't been on the board for years?)

It's a tough line to tow, but believing everything without critical reasoning may be just as hurtful in the long run.

Your last sentence is so true. I see quite a few people that were warning of sharing too much information online are now in a uproar. Lots of people can be hurt in different ways with this.

I'm hoping everything she posted is true,there some lucky little girls if so. There has been others that have posted on here that we have asked addresses for so we could send a little something to help out. With three little girls coming in so quick and having not being prepared you would have thought she would have been glad to receive a little something from the ones willing to send it. Other then the fact you would then have her real name and address and maybe this is what she didn't want us to know. If this is all true i'm so happy for the children if it's not i'm sad she had to make the story up.

I assume the spamming is to either fill the allotted amount of responses or to get the entire thread deleted.

You'd be better off letting people have their say and letting the thread die naturally then angering people even more and having multiple threads pop up, which will happen if the thread is removed or filled up with nonsense. People have the right to their opinions and posting pictures of flowers and random text won't change or stop that. It just makes more work for you.

A few years ago, I came upon a well-known "health guru"---now dead but his books & products live on---who was clearly in the "duping delight business" as Dr. Feldman so well put it. And that's what originally got me into genealogy, and then doing volunteer searching for out of area residents with local ancestors, after learning the ropes with that guy.
