Is Everyone Busy Today?

I haven't been home long. I first went with Amber to some rummage sales and then met up with Cheryl and came back to Amber's house and then we went into town, hit another rummage and decided against going to the Farmer's Market and Amber brought Izzi and I home. I got several nice books today, most were $.25 each, so will have plenty to read this winter. I bought myself a new pants suit for $1.00, a new long sleeved top for $.50 and a pair of new black pants, $.50. I also got a nice "pearl" and "gold" necklace for $.50, a small Corning Ware dish for $.25 and the lady at the barn sale gave me a brand new bag of large marshmallows free! She heard me say I wanted to make a Picnic Cake and needed to go into town to the grocery to get some. I guess she had a big birthday cookout for her husband and had bought way too many marshmallows. How nice of her to give them to me. I bought Izzi a little stool to hop on and sit for $2.00. The top lifts up and you can store small things in it. I bought Cheryl a nice black cat pin and a CD. I bought Amber two nice necklaces she liked. They were $1.00 each. I guess I will have to get some work done around here now. Amber's neighbor girl gave me some banana bread and zucchini bread. She told Amber she is hoping I will make her another cherry pie! I will have to buy more cherry pie filling my next shopping trip. Got to keep the neighbor's happy! So, what are you busy with today?

Beings we just had a 1.57" rain, I'm going out and pull weeds in my poor neglected flower beds. Then if it doesn't rain any more, I may run up to the cabin. DGS is having his 17th birthday party there.

I still have been picking some hot peppers and beans from the garden. My winter squashes are just starting to come in now (I've picked two so far.) I've been saving LOTS of seeds this past month. I'm slowly getting my dining room table back. LOL! It was an off year for tomatoes & melons (lets blame that on the weather!) I loved the display the petunias and cosmos put on this year. I would have never grown them if it weren't for this forum. Zinnias and marigolds put on a good show too. I plant flowers for my Mom too. She loved how showy the daturas were. Cosmos, calendula, bachelor buttons, balsams, variegated nicandra and marigolds all did well for her too!

I have fallen victim to the relentless winter that will not end here in the Midwest. While we're not getting any real accumulation, it seems to snow every other day which of course means that our weather continues to be colder than normal. I went to London three weeks ago. Lots of people told me I would be quite pleased to see how far ahead spring is in London. It snowed. Really. Monday I had one of those miserable, discouraging days at work where nothing seemed to go right. When I got home I thought I'd take a walk around the yard to look for signs of spring and new growth. By the end of my walk, I really felt different. Yep, instead of feeling depressed, now I felt downright suicidal. The combined effects of prolonged cold weather, a new puppy (okay, this was self-inflicted) and the hungry rabbits will mean a lot of replanting later this year. So about now you're probably sorry you asked. I'll go back to being quiet now. V.

Cleaning... Things I don't do everyday... I'm having the Bible study here tomorrow and lunch. Taking a back hurting break right now...have to do that every now and then. After a few mins I can get going again. I really need to wash some throw rugs...but won't have a dryer until about 6:00. Our broke again...nothing big but Denny said he just not going to work on it anymore. The dogs drag in more dirt than all of my kids and grandkids together could have drug in ,in a life time. Arrrrgggh...so ready for them to all find a new home. patti

Amy, Tim's shift changes constantly and that's part of the problem. About the time I adjust to him having to get up at 2 a.m., it changes to something else....and once my body gets into a certain sleeping/waking pattern, it is hard to get it to change. Oh well, I can just take an afternoon nap to work around his crazy hours. His new shift involves working 3 long days so he only has to make the drive to DFW three days a week instead of four, so he is happy about that, and I'm happy if he is happy. I loved it when he worked 2nd shift as that fit really well into my already established-routine here around the house. As a firefighter, Chris works 24-hours shifts, with his workday beginning/ending at 7 a.m. On workdays he leaves around 5 a.m. or possibly 4 a.m. if he is picking up groceries for the station on his way to work. He is relatively quiet and I often don't even hear him. Our son's friend who's living in our spare room just found a job here and works evening, so I have no idea when I should cook dinner on this new schedule because every single person in this house is on a different schedule/routine. I volunteered to just give up cooking, but that didn't go over well, so I guess I'll cook on a schedule that suits me and the three of them will just have to reheat dinner and eat it "whenever" if they aren't home at dinner time. I'm laughing as I type this because that's actually been the story of our life for years now. Getting even just 3 people together to eat a meal at one time can be incredibly hard, and I don't actually cook dinner nearly as often as I used to because if I am the only one home, I can be happy with a cold sandwich and some fresh fruit or something else equally simple. Tim is having a really busy day at work, and I am making up for that by sitting lethargically on the sofa and counting how many hours have passed since his alarm woke me up. I feel like I've been awake for 46 hours already. I need a nap. It is too hot to cook a meal from scratch when there's great leftovers in the fridge. It it too hot to even walk down to the mail box and get the mail. Doing that would require walking past the garden which I bet has some hot, wilty miserable look to it right now, so I may just wait until this evening. My garden looks hot and tired today, and that was early in the day before it even got really hot. I might have to water it tomorrow. I just cannot believe how bad this intense heat feels after all the cool, rainy days. I'm really missing them. I am completely over summer and it has only just begun to really feel like summer the last few days. Carol, I love making pickles, but made so many last year that I get this year off. Mrs. Wage's has a new mix for Jalapeno relish and I might make some of that later in the summer. I found it at Atwoods. Our Wal-Mart doesn't yet have it on the shelves. I still might plant some pickling cukes for fall. It is so hot and I am so tired that I am having trouble getting motivated to do anything except drink iced tea. Looking around the room, the dogs are sleeping and the cat is asleep. I must have missed the "time to sleep" memo. I wish we could fall sleep tonight and wake up tomorrow in mid-September with deliciously mild and pleasant weather! Dawn

I need to be outside painting and doing prep work on house. I only got a few days painting done this week....Instead on am sitting on computer reading and posting......

I need to get busy. Yesterday I pulled everything out of the little shed and cleaned it out well. This AM I burned some things, and now have to gather up the rest of the stuff either for the trash, recycling, or take it to the big shed for storage.

Sue, I'm interested in your Picnic Cake that takes marshmallows.

Sue...off to get busy at something.

Dear friend from high school ( over 40 years ago!) and her DH are coming in for a visit in a hour. So I have been CLEANING! Where does all the dust come from anyway!!

Waited around until the truck delivered DH's new rocker/recliner. Sure is nice--brown leather with a footstool. I sat in it for a while and almost fell asleep.

Sue, here's the Picnic Cake I posted the other day. It's super easy and tastes great, too.

PICNIC CAKE

1 yellow cake mix
10 reg. size marshmallows (I use more)
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped pecans

Prehat oven to 350. Make cake batter according to package directions and pour into a 9x12" pan. Cut marshmallows in half and place over batter, cut side down. Mix brown sugar and nuts and sprinkle over top. Bake according to package directions.

Not busy here...it's 12:59 and I'm just heading in to get dress...before Denny get's home...I hate to have him catch me being so lazy...LOL (as if he doen't already know it..after 43 years...LOL..he loves me!!!)

DH dyed my hair first thing this morning. I buy whatever is on sale....not loyal to any particular brand. As long as the colour is similar to what I like.

This is supposed to be dark red/auburn but it's too light for our liking. Won't buy this one again.

Did some shopping, now home in the a/c watching golf.

Took Makayla to a mall that has a LLBean and got her a new bookbag. As we walking through the mall, some girl came up and tapped me on my shoulder. I turned and looked really funny. 'Like I am suppose to know you!' Come to find out her and went to high school/ cosmetology school together 35 years ago!!! I just cannot believe she knew who I was! Then I met with a Myspace friend at Starbucks. She is from Alabama and I know her daughter.
Makayla and I then went to Toys R Us to look at what size bike she to get. We found one and I will pick it up after she goes home. Since it is for her birthday which is the end of September.
Now, she is watching cartoons while I am on here and finishing up my homemade crab soup.

we were in car heaven today at the woodward ave dream cruise...didn't cruise as long as it was hot...dh removed the outer braces for the storm windows in prep to removing the actual window next week...our 2 ds and sil are helping us install a new window later that day! can you tell i'm excited??? no more ugly shrink plastic every winter! can get "real drapes" not thermal!
