Is Everyone Busy Today?

I am keeping pretty busy. I baked a white cake and cleaned two quarts of strawberries. I have unloaded the dishwasher and loaded it up and ran it. I have gotten all the laundry folded (wish I had it put away) and I have cut out the fabric for Amber's cover for her task chair. Now it is time for lunch so will take a break before I get back at it. What are you keeping busy with today?

Still pulling Garlic Mustard weed down in the orchard, I have nine big garbage bags now full of the stuff and I'll probably fill at least one more. But I came in for lunch and coffee (plus two donuts!) at 11:30am., now I'm going to have to force myself back out there. The sun is shining, but it's so cold and windy.

thanks for the reminder..have berries to clean for dinner...better get dressed and go get some of our fave no sugar edys ice cream for them...

did a marathon of laundry and just have to get the hung up clothes in the closet...dh has it "rigged" for me i can hang up stuff in the laundry room, but getting it from there to the closet is "hard, lol"..did a quick swish thru the bathroom, again..

i'll be sooo glad when we can put up the ceiling in the downstairs bath...we redid the bath above it...we'd put in a "temp" ceiling, when we changed the downstairs bath, dh removed to access pipes, ect...so you get these tiny bits of grit and goodness knows what falling...but it's all nice and shiney, and bleachy smelling (i love that!)

I still have been picking some hot peppers and beans from the garden. My winter squashes are just starting to come in now (I've picked two so far.) I've been saving LOTS of seeds this past month. I'm slowly getting my dining room table back. LOL! It was an off year for tomatoes & melons (lets blame that on the weather!) I loved the display the petunias and cosmos put on this year. I would have never grown them if it weren't for this forum. Zinnias and marigolds put on a good show too. I plant flowers for my Mom too. She loved how showy the daturas were. Cosmos, calendula, bachelor buttons, balsams, variegated nicandra and marigolds all did well for her too!

Only the very lightest of sprinkles so far today, and they didn't last long at all. It is thundering outside, though, so I am hoping that means rain is imminent. I did water the volunteer pumpkins that sprouted outside the guinea/hen house and pen and have been climbing the fence that encloses the pen. Because the pen is built like a hoophouse with a 10' tall 'roof' made of poulty fencing/bird netting, we have 2 pumpkins growing up there 10' above the ground, so it will be interesting to see how they do up there. I need to run outside and pick some tomatoes while it is nice and cool, and not yet raining. I also need to mow, but think I will probably have to do that tomorrow since I think we are about to get rain. I did get my 2007-2008 HPS catalog and, of course, there are the seeds of many old favorites in it, and a lot of new ones that are making me drool, including Petunia 'Baby Duck Yellow', Nasturtium 'Caribbean Crush'(seems to be a sister to 'Caribbean Cocktail' and has more yellow in its swirled colors) Zinnia 'Aztec Sunset' (2007 Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winer), and California Poppy 'Raspberry Fool', among others. So, while it rains and rains this weekend (I hope), I probably will go through the catalog and make a huge 'wish list' and then go back and edit and re-edit it over and over again until it is a reasonable length and also an affordable one. Because HPS is always the first catalog to arrive for NEXT season, I wear it out. By ordering early from it, I am then ready to start some biennials in late autumn, to winter sow some seeds, and even to start some things inside under lights in December. Then, when the other catalogs come in December, I can look for other new treasures and don't feel like I need to 'hurry up' and order, 'cause I already have some seeds started. The butterflies are thick here today. I guess they are enjoying the cooler air and the cloudy weather. We've enjoyed the August sunshine, but appreciate a break from it too. We've been seeing more bluebirds lately, so they must have had a good year as far as successfully hatching and rearing their young. Our bluebird population is really eratic. Grasshoppers and crickets are everywhere, and we are seeing more and more sphinx moths out nectaring in the late evening and early morning hours. The flowers that are blooming are doing great, but only because they're being watered a lot to help them through the heat. Hank, The caterpillar was probably a tomato fruitworm. I've been seeing some of them, although mostly I have hornworms. Courtney, Hummers can be quite agressive. We have one that likes to sit on the telephone wire and watch the two hummingbird feeders so he can chase away anyone who tries to go to either one of them. (One is in front of the house, the other is in back.) He's a greedy and territorial little guy! I hope you get more rain to water in that nitrogen. Dawn

cleaned house from top to bottom again..im decluttering and giving it all to my sil for her annual yard sale..i havent even made it to the cellar or the sheds yet! thats a big mess. made meatloaf from the burgers left over from the boys' sunday nascar for hubbys lunch tomorrow and the rest of the week, talked to my sil she wants to put our car on the road because shes letting both her new ones go back..sad because she works so hard, well work something out because she takes me to work too..lol we all share so its a give and give sort of situation, gotta call my mom whos back in the hospital, and also waiting on a phone call from the lady i clean for to set up next date which reminds me i need to walk uptown to get minutes for my phone..and i still have to water my plants in the greenhouse lol and im wearing heels i havent worn heels in forever its usually workboots..dont know just felt like dressing up today..dh will probably keel over when he walks in the door lmbo as i never have time to dressup at all anymore..i even ironed..omg! then its cooking dinner, but i did sweep the portico out from the nascar race jeeze im forgetting something lol hope you all have a great day!

Amy, Tim's shift changes constantly and that's part of the problem. About the time I adjust to him having to get up at 2 a.m., it changes to something else....and once my body gets into a certain sleeping/waking pattern, it is hard to get it to change. Oh well, I can just take an afternoon nap to work around his crazy hours. His new shift involves working 3 long days so he only has to make the drive to DFW three days a week instead of four, so he is happy about that, and I'm happy if he is happy. I loved it when he worked 2nd shift as that fit really well into my already established-routine here around the house. As a firefighter, Chris works 24-hours shifts, with his workday beginning/ending at 7 a.m. On workdays he leaves around 5 a.m. or possibly 4 a.m. if he is picking up groceries for the station on his way to work. He is relatively quiet and I often don't even hear him. Our son's friend who's living in our spare room just found a job here and works evening, so I have no idea when I should cook dinner on this new schedule because every single person in this house is on a different schedule/routine. I volunteered to just give up cooking, but that didn't go over well, so I guess I'll cook on a schedule that suits me and the three of them will just have to reheat dinner and eat it "whenever" if they aren't home at dinner time. I'm laughing as I type this because that's actually been the story of our life for years now. Getting even just 3 people together to eat a meal at one time can be incredibly hard, and I don't actually cook dinner nearly as often as I used to because if I am the only one home, I can be happy with a cold sandwich and some fresh fruit or something else equally simple. Tim is having a really busy day at work, and I am making up for that by sitting lethargically on the sofa and counting how many hours have passed since his alarm woke me up. I feel like I've been awake for 46 hours already. I need a nap. It is too hot to cook a meal from scratch when there's great leftovers in the fridge. It it too hot to even walk down to the mail box and get the mail. Doing that would require walking past the garden which I bet has some hot, wilty miserable look to it right now, so I may just wait until this evening. My garden looks hot and tired today, and that was early in the day before it even got really hot. I might have to water it tomorrow. I just cannot believe how bad this intense heat feels after all the cool, rainy days. I'm really missing them. I am completely over summer and it has only just begun to really feel like summer the last few days. Carol, I love making pickles, but made so many last year that I get this year off. Mrs. Wage's has a new mix for Jalapeno relish and I might make some of that later in the summer. I found it at Atwoods. Our Wal-Mart doesn't yet have it on the shelves. I still might plant some pickling cukes for fall. It is so hot and I am so tired that I am having trouble getting motivated to do anything except drink iced tea. Looking around the room, the dogs are sleeping and the cat is asleep. I must have missed the "time to sleep" memo. I wish we could fall sleep tonight and wake up tomorrow in mid-September with deliciously mild and pleasant weather! Dawn

I've been making a quiche. It took forever to bake, and finally able to eat it. It's a spinach quiche with a pie crust, normally when I do make them I make them crustless. But I had an extra frozen crust in the freezer from making a tomato pie a little while ago.

I'm also getting ready to throw dishes from yesterday in the dishwasher. Lauren seems to stack her dirty dishes/glasses in her room and I found a bunch this morning.

Speaking of Lauren, it's her birthday today. She's 14! We may go out to eat at her favorite Mexican restaurant this evening after she gets home from girl scouts.

Have more laundry to do and run to the high school to pay for Alex's senior ad, e-mailed the woman in charge of it one of his baby pictures yesterday.

It's raining here and cold.

Am leaving early tomorrow for the country house, so today, I'm trying to do a bit of cleaning/straightening here, getting my stuff packed and ready to go.

Also finished a baby quilt I've been working on for a neighbor's baby.

Had a discussion with the engineer on the street construction outside, to verify how much we're going to be inconvenienced by the next phase of the work, and to make sure they'll be replacing the concrete they've already damamged on my property.

Need to run outside and dig up some plants I want to relocate to the country house, and then I'll be headed upstairs to take a shower.

I'm trying to de-clutter my sewing room~~~~~~~~again.Where does all this stuff come from???.B4 i get started with that i have to jump in the shower.It's kinda chilly and overcast here,and they're saying it's going to rain again.It looks like we have the May greys already.

Have to call my son and remind him to pick up the part for my oven.The heating element went out.They sure don't make things to last anymore.

I've done 2 loads of laundry. So everything is clean! I paid bills and did some insurance paperwork.
I think I'll spend the afternoon reading my book.

Started therapy for neck and shoulder pain. Had no idea my muscles were in such bad condition. She said my neck felt like there were rocks in it. Some stretching and other manipulation, then messaged with an electric massage thingy. That felt so good! Showed me some things to do at home.

I'll be going twice a week for a while.

Growing old gracefully is a myth.

Too busy! I had to haul out the dreaded ironing board and iron clothes to take to Charleston. My iron decided to spurt water all over the clothes instead of steaming and I had a devil of a time with it. I finally got all that done and everything is packed and ready to go into the car tomorrow.

I made a reservation yesterday for the Baymont Inn in Harry's hometown in Georgia yesterday morning, but hadn't received an e-mail confirmation so I called. They couldn't find it and then I got cut-off. Called back later and finally made the res over the phone. Got the e-mail confirmation for a Baymont in Savannah. Arrrggg! Harry finally got the phone number for the right place and I called and got the reservation. Some days things just don't work easily.

Did the usual daily cleaning and made a pizza for dinner. Still have to e-mail our girls and my SisIL with our plans, so I'd better get to it before I fall asleep at the keyboard.

Harry took the car in for an oil change, checkup and car wash but they couldn't wash it because of the way our scooter lift is on the back. So after he got home he called a place to see about getting it washed and detailed ($100). He decided just to go for the car wash!!

DSis will be here tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to kickin' back with her for a while.

Busy yesterday at our son and daughter-in-laws new home. It's an older house but new to them. I tell ya the yard had not had any work in at least 15 years. We cut bushes back, trees, shaped up the shrubs, then hauled 2 loads of the clippings to the dump. Wow, did it look open and much better. Now its work here at home. My yard is waiting to be mowed. its a busy time of year!!

Taxes this morning at the free clinic at church for low-income folk.

Did some checking of my own tax info this afternoon.

Visit with son - including discussing whether there may be a God/god or not.

Now yakking at you folks.

Gotta leave immediately to travel with friend to investment group meeting.
