I can have $0 because I have a debit card with me at all times.

Dh and I never carry any cash at all. We use our atm-visa cards for everything. If we have cash in our pocket, we're more apt to spend it, so we just use our cards as needed.

I usally have anywhere from $20 to $50 in my billfold. I don't use an ATM, so like to have cash with me. I shop at some thrift stores that don't take checks, cash only, so have to have some with me at all times for these shopping ventures.

I use a Wal Mart gift card for my gas purchases at Murphys and usually put $50 on it each more, sometimes more. I'm lucky that I have retired from my job that required a 50 mi. drive per day so gas usage has greatly decreased. I usually only go to town once a week for supplies.

I don't worry about it, cause I also carry a credit card, even when out riding.

I hardly ever have cash, or much of it. I use my ATM for almost everything. I did recently stick a $100 bill in my wallet and will leave it there for those "just incase" moments I might need money.

My DH always has a wad of cash so if I need cash, I go to his clip but I almost never have very much..usually some change from the last time I used cash. I would have to scrounge through every compartment to find more than a couple of dollars. We use a credit card for all purchases.

I love to have cash. Dh doesnt. Before all of the ATMs and debit cards, I'd carry around $200 at at time. I'm not someone who likes to blow money so it was fine for me. Now the most I usually carry is around $60-100. I try to keep it in smaller bills because it's usually those $5 or less purchases where I need cash. Or I'll need to send cash foe something for the kids at school.

I've had less than $1 for the last several days. DH was horrified when I told him that. Doesn't bother me a bit. Too lazy to go to the ATM.

I get very uneasy when I don't have at least 100 dollars on me. I keep a folded bill tuck away in my wallet plus more cash in the regular compartment. I carry one credit card for emergencies and a couple of store credit cards. I never use debit cards.

I'm like most of the group..debit card for everything, online banking for bills..I write maybe 4-6 checks a month and that may be stretching it. LOL

My husband usually has "pocket" money. He takes $60-70 a pay period as his allowance. Sometimes he makes it to the next payday with $20 plus..sometimes he needs another $20...sometimes I ask him for a $20..LOL

Between DH and I we usually have about $50 cash when we go out and about town. If we are traveling, we carry about $50 in cash for each day we are going to be on the road. All gas purchases go on a charge card. We charge just about all purchases over $10 except restaurant meals. I just don't feel comfortable with someone walking out of sight with my credit card. We don't use a debit card, and avoid ATMs if possible.

My checkbook and a couple of credit cards are always with me plus I prefer to have no less than $20 cash at all times. We don't use bank cards of any kind.

Generally, I like to have a minimum of $300-400 in my wallet. You'd need at least that much for an unexpected auto repair, for example. But lately, with having so much to do at the new house, that's ending up considerably skimpier by the end of the week, I'm afraid.

I am perfectly comfortable having 0 cash on me for days at a time. When I do have cash, it's $10-20. I use my debit card for routine errands/purchases. I would use my debit card for something like a flat tire or unexpected repair. I am rarely more than a couple miles from an atm if I need cash. If I am going farther from home, to an area I don't know, I will get some cash while I know where I am.

I most often go about with my keys, cell phone and debit card in my pocket, no purse. Don't carry a credit card or check book with me as habit.

This works for me. I won't get out my debit card for a Starbucks stop than I don't really need (there's a paper trail to remind me of my indulgence). But if I have cash in my pocket, I will. Those little wasteful things are more likely to suck me in if I have cash on me.

I would be uncomfortable, actually, with more than $50 cash on me. I am so not used it, I'm sure I would lose it.

How is a debit card safer than cash?

I can only spend or lose the cash I have in my wallet. With a debit card, you could (yourself, or if someone else got their hands on it) have your account cleaned out--or even have your identy stolen.

It's a total fallacy that using 'cards' is so much safer than using cash. I never carry more cash than I can afford to lose or spend. And cash can be easily replaced. An identity cannot (my next door neighbor is YEARS and over $30,000 down that road, with no end in sight). Nope, for my peace of mind, AND for safety's sake, I'll continue to carry cash.

I don't carry much cash - less than $5 most of the time. I use my cc for 95% of my spending. If I'm going to a few garage sales, I will take $20 with me. I keep a small bit of cash in the house - just never carry it on me.

I like to know exactly where my money is going - I can check my cc statement if I have any questions. If the establishment/business doesn't take my cc, I simply don't buy from it.

Cash a check weekly to take care of my dining out needs, what few groceries I buy, etc, trips to Dollar Tree.

Prescriptions, gas, I use my credit card.

Debit card here, and $100-$200 in the wallet (which might stay there for a month)! CC is only used for online purchases, airline tickets, car rental, gas while traveling. Bank statement is checked online daily, and purchases logged or pending are checked against receipts. As many bills as possible are paid online. Why aren't more doctors/specialists set up for online payment?

We haven't used credit cards in years. Recently we've stopped using our debit card as well. DH puts cash in a certain area of our home and I try to have some in my wallet at all times.

Recently I've gone out with $20.0 - 30.00 and found myself restricted.

I usually withdraw $400.00 or so at a time and carry from $50. - 100. in my wallet (and loose in my pocket, in case my wallet gets lifted, or I get held up). I pay for most everything by cash.

I'm frugal and don't have trouble with over-spending.

While some say that they're more likely to spend dribs and drabs if they carry cash, the credit card cos.' research has shown them that, on average, people spend more if they're not pulling currency from their wallet.

They've encouraged people to use their card to purchase most everything.

I can't get over people using a credit card to buy ... a chocolate bar?!

Simetimes I've asked store clerks whether they'd rather get paid from the credit card payment of the person that checked out before me ... or my cash payment.

Most say that it doesn't matter to them. When I tell them that if it was by the proceeds of the credit card, they'd wait a month or six weeks to get the money ... and they'd get $98.00 or less for every $100.00 owed ... while if they were paid from my transaction ... the store could pay them that night ... and they'd get $100.00 for every $100.00 owed.

In almost all cases - they'd never thought of that.

And when I get receipts for most purchases, I don't have trouble reconciling my accounts. I need to do it every few days, so that I can remember which were the few expenses that I made for which I didn't get a receipt.

On the other hand ...

Trouble is ... it's the stores that pay their freight ...

... adding the cost of the credit card fees and waiting time to their cost of doing business.

I take out $20 each Sat. Sometimes I have most of it left at the end of the week. I only use it for the odd coffee or if I decide to buy a lunch. Any larger purchases I use my debit card for. DH takes a little more, but takes out the same amount each week as well. Most of our spending is done on the weekend (groceries etc.)so we've no need to carry much cash through the week.

I start each week out with 30 bucks cash and any left over from the previous week~~that is in my wallet then in my stash I have $40-100. I have credit and debit cards but do not use them except for large items. DH never carries $$$ we went on a 6 day vacation and I think he had $100 if that in cash, he uses debit for everything. I always charge my gas and debit groceries since DH pays for all that:)

I looked after I read this question and I have $275. in my purse, but I was out of town yest. and I always carry more then. I have never had a debit card; our friend that's a retired stock broker advises against them. Since I've never had one, that's okay w/ me. We put everything on one credit card and pay it off at the end of the month. No interest for us!!

I'm very surprised at the number of us who carry around more than $30 cash! Oh my goodness! If I have more than $10 cash, I think I'm filthy rich. I've carried around the same $5 bill for almost 2 weeks - and that's the ONLY cash I've had except for some change. Really the only time I need cash is when I go garage-saling - then I'll have no more than $20 (in smaller bills).

I use my debit card and credit cards too. I believe the debit card is SO much safer than cash - if you lose your purse, or somebody steals it, your cash is gone. If they get your debit card, so what? It's no good without your code #. Just call your bank and get another card.
