Where would I find free..........

I am making crochet/knitted dish clothes for xmas gifts. I want to put a paper wrapper around them. I have been looking on line for decorative wrappers but they want more for the wrappers than the dishclothes are worth.

Want something that I can personalize with my name but yet have a template with graphics I can use.

Any ideas. Thanks, Judy

How big of a wrapper do you need? Check crafting sites for templates or the Avery website, or just use rubber stamps on plain paper.

Why not create your own with your computer?

Set your page set-up to 'Landscape' so that you can make the wrapper 11" long (then just be sure to fold the dish cloths so it fits).

Use some cute free online printable graphics, and add whatever you want to say in an interesting font. Since the homemade dishcloths are generally sort of home-spun/natural looking, I'd try to find a really nice, natural (maybe sort of brown paper bag?) type paper.

It's so much more fun to design and make your own, anyway.

Next to our place is a vacant acre lot where the house was removed about 10 years ago. The garlic from their garden kept spreading over those years. There was a patch about 30x70 feet and other clumps here and there. A neighbor who was related to those people told me that the garlic was German Red. I spent some time investigating. There were 9 inch or so balls of bulbs mixed in with rounds. The bulbs were small, maybe an inch in diameter. I planted some of the cloves and got bulbs as large as 3 inches in diameter the first year. I would guess that these wilded plants will tend to grow for many years without problem because the spreading is accomplished by the bulblets bending the scapes over so that the plant can move a foot or two each year. Garlic plants grown from bulbils grow plants that are said to clear any plant diseases that would continue in plants grown from cloves. The 30x70 foot clump was mostly to the north of a huge shade tree, with a 3 foot in diameter trunk. In the spring into early summer the only thing growing there was the garlic but then the weeds would crowd out the garlic. When the scapes were on the plants the clump was still mainly weed free. I'm guessing that the shade helped the garlic overcome weed pressure.

someguyinmaine, I just bought two unassembled hives from Betterbee. Trust me, I couldn't buy the materials for what these two hives cost and it's real high quality wooden ware. It takes at least a day to assemble and paint each hive. Four hive boxes(supers) are dovetail jointed and get glued and nailed. Then there are ten frames that get nailed and glued together for each of the four boxes. I built my own base to keep the hive off the ground and it has an angled landing board. I bought a styrofoam hive top feeder that gets painted same as the styrofoam top. I am awaiting 2 nucs coming from Georgia in a week or so.

If you are not in a hurry, research the BEST tasting figs, and put an order in to UC Davis. Get your order in early. You will have to pay shipping, but out of my 3 varieties that I ordered last year and just received, 2 Varieties are leafing out (Panachee and Mission). The one I really wanted is lagging, but it's only been 2 weeks, and I have time. My research showed that Mission, Panachee, and Violet de Bouchet taste the very best. I heard it from the grapevines! I am trying 3 methods for rooting. The ones that are leafing out are in damp perlite and peat. Baggie method not showing any improvement at all, and then I laid some on their sides in shallow trenches in the dirt outside. Nothing there either. Hmm maybe I can go by there again and get one. They are basically 2 metallic poles going up to a stainless tube. In the tube there are tombstone connectors for the bulbs to connect. There is also a connection for a starter capsule next to the bulb. A 14/3 bx cable travels down the tube to the ballasts. Both bulbs share the white and the black and red each go to the bulbs seperately. I guess the main point is there is nothing suitable to mount the lights to since it is all glass.

Azzalea, yes that may be the route I take, using some type of rustic paper and graphics. I shall give that a try.

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, go in and ask for a sheet of the beautiful tissue papers they wrap breakables in - it is just gorgeous tissue paper - they will just give you a sheet.

I'd suggest visiting a Hallmark card store and look at the wrapping and tissue papers they sell. Sure you'll find something nice.

I generally print out a little business size card, telling it is a hand knitted dish cloth, made of cotton yarn, and can be washed in a regular load, as well as dried regular.

Usually I attach it with a piece of the same yarn, that I wrap around the rolled cloth twice.

Oh, the card gets a hole punched in, at a corner, and the yarn is threaded through.

If I use colors that I know, will run the first few washings, I put that on the back of the card.
