I've often thought it would be fun to take up bridge. My DH and I used to play with his parents, but that was many years ago. I enjoyed it; however, DH wasn't exactly thrilled with me as a partner. He took the game very seriously, and I liked to chat.

If I got into the game now, I'd have to re-learn the conventions, etc. (and probably learn to keep my mouth shut). :-)

We used to play when we were in the Air Force. That was the thing the guys did during lunch and then couples would play a couple times a month. I never really learned "how to play" correctly - just kinda stumbled my way through.

Now I am sitting in with a group that plays twice a month - just trying to learn correctly how to count points and bid.

My brother and I learned as kids - my parents wanted partners! We're now trying to teach his kids. Unfortuantely, I don't get a chance to play that often.

I never learned. My DH played military Bridge in the Air Force, but that was 40 years ago!

I started to play in college and liked it so much that I realized that I would have trouble graduating if I continued to play. I quit. Years later I took some lessons that were offered in community education. I like it, but having had lessons, I just feel inadequate when it comes to memorizing what to bid with what card counts I have in my hand.

I took beginner lessons years ago. Then 4 of us from the class decided to meet once a week to play. One aft. noon we were to meet at my house and at the last moment one of the gals couldn't come, so I called Hubs at work (he was the boss, and could leave if he wanted) and he came home to be our 4th. Now, Hubs is a very good Bridge player, and when one of the gals bid. one-something, he immediately raised it to slam in her suit, and she had to play it. The poor gal.....she looked like she was going to pass out. She did well, and made the bid. Personally, I'm just not a good Bridge player. I don't have a good enough memory for it, and I too like to chat while playing cards.

I play three Monday's a month. One game is rubber bridge the other two duplicate, and I play two Tuesdays a month. The Tuesday game is duplicate also. I use to teach a basic bridge class at Adult Education for people who have been playing for years, but never really learned the basics. That got rather frustrating because while taking the class, the player's, a lot of whom I'd encounter at the bridge table, did very well. However, after the class ended, they would go back to their original bridge playing. It was like beating my head against a brick wall.

Started in my junior year in high school, played all thru college, a marriage.

After that, I haven't played in years. Don't think I would even remember how to put a hand together and made a bid.

Know it would come back IF I got started again. Would need some refreshing.

I just remembered that my dad and I used to love to play "honeymoon bridge" (bridge for two). It was probably our second favorite, number one being cribbage.

Ah, yes, my dad was a cribbage man too. He liked to say it was the game that they played in the Navy.
