Garnet & Gold Meet Fire & Ice - Need votes

I entered a contest on a home decor site called CB2. They have people upload three photos of creative spaces in their home and people vote on them. The winner gets $10,000 and a photo shoot of their home.

I've entitled my entry as Garnet & Gold Meet Fire & Ice. Fire & Ice is the name of the back splash in our kitchen. The garnet and gold describes our living room.

I just uploaded the entries so there is only one vote. Would love to get a few more votes.

Dave, that's the Abies koreana 'Vengels' which is a Dutch seedling selection, introduced by Piet Vergeld who also selected the Picea omorika 'Peve Tijn' and the Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret'. Mike, maybe you can thank me after all, it's 'Gelbbunt' instead of 'Gelbunt'. It means "Gold Variegated' in the German language.

katie lou-After we did the sponging twice as instructed after grouting we used the wire brush to get any remaining bits of grout from the quartz pieces. Because those pieces have crevices/uneven texture, etc. the grout sticks. You could use some sort of nylon sponge but my husband just happened to have this brush which worked great and was small enough so that it didn't scrape out the surrounding grout. Just brush lightly and you will see the grout starting to smear up on the stone. Then you wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. I used the cloth instead of a sponge as I didn't want to wipe off the grout that was in the 1/8" spacing areas. The glass was no problem. Wipe with damp cloth and then buff dry with a dry one. It is daunting but you can do it!! Be prepared for it to take time depending on the amount of area, how many cuts, etc. The only thing I would do differently is not use the lt. pewter color grout-it was so dark and this particular backsplash looks best with a lt. gray or beige color. We sponged 3 times instead of 2 as it was so dark. It could just be the brand. When we used Laticrete grout for our kitchen floor it mixed up way lighter before it was even sponged. We ended up with the delorean gray color-maybe out of shear luck!! It's hard to decide on the best grout color. If you start with a lighter color it will lighten up some with each sponging. I chose to end up with a lt. gray as I thought it would look best with my order. Don't forget to post pics. Have fun!! Sponges, spacers, putty knife, diamond tip blade from Lowes Thin set mortar from HD TEC grout and Aqua Mix sealer from tile store

Oh, bee stool is really cool! Yes, I might get that. Thanks, Annie! Busybee, I go wherever. I'm also a dog sitter and often have jobs in the summer, so I go and stay with dogs in their own homes, or friends/family, I have wonderful clients who offer their homes or vacation homes to me....all works. nutsaboutplants, interesting perspective. I'm not thrilled with the BM Whitall brown, wish I'd gone with a warmer brown, but I think the bees will look great with it, actually. Pine ceiling, brown walls...very woodsy, so I think perfect for bees!

Really? I didn't know you had to be a Facebook user. The site doesn't have anything to do with Facebook. Maybe they encourage you to cast your vote so that your Facebook friends will see it. I clicked on Facebook while entering the contest but hit ignore when it asked me to open an app and I was still able to post my entry.

I voted. I considered your Fire and Ice backsplash earlier this year when we built the house. Dh didn't want glass tiles. Your pictures did me a favor because I got dh to do something besides that tumbled stone, travertine or whatever everyone has in their houses.

Here is my backsplash when it was being installed.

We have the fire and ice in our kithen too. I never get tired of seeing the rocks. Our glass tiles are green and red, very dark so they often look black.

Well darn, I just read the small print again and it turns out you can't vote more than once. I've currently have 31 votes and first place has 271. Not sure where I'll find 240+ people to vote for me.
