What are you holiday weekend plans?

I am going to OKC to shop for a sofa. Aside from that, it's just another weekened...except that I may make a few more batches of blackberry jam and some peach jam.

How about you? Will you be traveling? Expecting company?

I'll be leaving for the cabin/river in about 2 hours. We'll stay until Monday sometime. My younger sister is coming up Saturday and spending the night (with mom). She doesn't come up very often, as she has her home on a lake and has all the nature/quiet right there.

Thanks for your kind, encouraging words everyone. I agree with you Talley Sue on most of your points, although I don't have much room left! I have been talking myself blue in the face about needing drawer storage under the work bench to DH, who doesn't like the mechanic's drawers. He's perfectly fine with his tools being in separate little boxes, even if it drives me nuts. (I may just get something I call roll under the bench in the future anyway, if I can make room.) I suspect it's because for years he needed his tools to be portable since he would take them on the job. I agree with you about drawer storage, simply because it would make it easier for ME to access the tools! The best I can do at this point is to mount wire baskets (that slide) under the length of the door. The rest of the space under the door/bench is taken up with a big tool chest on wheels that doubles as an extra work surface (think L shaped work space), and things like the shop vac and air compressor. When he was installing shelving, he had his tool boxes open (back to back in a square) so he could see everything at once. Even if it isn't what I would do, it seems to be working for him. The bins at the potting table are full of heavy fertilizer, so I needed the head room for opening the lids and getting into the containers. I keep things low on the wall at the potting bench since I'm short and wanted to be able to reach everything there. There's a big drawer the length of the potting table under the top, so that's really convenient. Since I don't really need any more shallow drawer space in that particular place, it allowed me to purge more items, so that's working for me! We kept the Wall of Wonder shallow, without putting any heavy equipment on the floor, just so I could reach it all. There are things like my little red wagon (which I use for gardening) that are hung low, so all I have to do is grab the handle and let it roll off the wall. By parking all the big equipment in the middle of the space, we can maintain a path all the way around and keep a wide aisle around the workbench. I do need a little help to figure out a way to hang/store some chest waders (for working in the pond). I wonder if I could hang them by the shoulder straps on a hangar near the ceiling. We have a small cultivator on a long pole that might work for getting the hangar down. If you have any better suggestions for me Talley Sue, I'd appreciate it! Celticmoon made me Google...now I want a clothesline in the garage. I'd love to be able to hang bedspreads to dry. Why is it I can't find a single (narrow) retractable clothesline in metal housing? I need at least 25 feet of line. With the exception of the fertilizer bins and crates, I'm done buying plastic shelves or drawers, because it just doesn't last at my house. If any of you have any other ideas or tips, please feel free to help me tweak my space!

Long Holiday Weekend: Did you quilt???

First, Hello everyone. Newbie here. I hand quilt. But yes, I quilted most of the weekend. And most of this week. I've had off this week from school so its provided a great opportunity to put down the textbooks and relax. (College - I'm 22.) You have to excuse my lack of lingo. But I have pinwheel blocks which are sown together- which are 7 '' x 7''. And I had to add a 3 1/2'' x 9 1/2'' , plus a 3 1/2 x 6 1/2''. Strips to each of the pinwheel blocks. To give me a final block of 10 1/2'' x 10 1/2'' squares. Out of 42 blocks needed of the 10 1/2 '' x 10 1/2'' - I've completed 33. I would say this weekend I completed about 22. I got bored with making so many pinwheels. So, I skipped to the next step leaving out 9 pinwheels, which I have not sown yet. So, now that the rest of the blocks are completed. All of you too! I made Passover seder for 34 people Wednesday night and really had to laugh as my coil burners could only turn hot and red on parts and all the numbers on the control knobs are worn off. My oven is so tiny it's a dance to take turns with items going in and out. My friend calls it the "Easybake" oven! My MW is needed for more cooking space but you have to open, shut and restart from time to time to stop it from making a screaming sound. My counter space is tight and food is aplenty, so the top of the fridge becomes extra counter space. I'd been trying to keep myself reasonable with new kitchen plans, looking at the kitchen that I've used for more than 17 years that is fitted with, of course, honey oak cabs that look new (but the set up and center stiles on all are a pain) and white formica counters that amazingly have not a mark on them. I've found myself saying "Is it really necessary to do all this??" So, with my new appliances sitting in my garage and plans being finalized, I can just smile and tell myself... Yep, necessary it is! Happy days to all...

Hey Kathi~ I decorate Americana too. I love anything old and prim so there's kind of a mixture there with my stuff. I have my old raggety doll that an aunt made me when I was small sitting on a shelf. My kitchen has cows, but I'm getting ready to paint it red so it will make the transition from living room to kitchen better. I've got to get started on the scarecrow. I found the pattern I want to use yesterday so hopefully I can get started on it today. Luvs~ I've really enjoyed chatting with ya'll too! Just wish we could get some more painters interested. May just take a while for people to see that it's active here again?? And maybe the change in the weather will make a difference too?

Landscapers here today to trim trees for the winter.
Tomorrow and Sunday...nothing scheduled.
Monday...big (about 20-30 people) annual family labor day picnic at the lake. Good food, chat, and fishing.

Monday - back home and relaxing... wine will be involved!

Not much. Plan on baking bread, will get the grass mowed and some weeding done. Also need to get my going back to work wardrobe organized. No more shorts and flip flops for awhile.

Our county fair is traditionally held Labor Day weekend. Sooo, I will be shuttling the grandson to and from the carnival rides, the exhibit building and the rodeo grounds. Talked to the lady who took his entry in the fair exhibits and she told me he took Reserve this year. Last year he got the Judge's Choice and was thrilled. This year he gets the second highest prize and I'm sure he won't quit talking about that for a year LOL. He peeked in the window yesterday but the ribbon is on the other side of the model, so it will be a surprise today when he sees it! Don't know how my cookies did, hope for a repeat performance of last year, Sweepstakes. Defending my title and all that. Otherwise, just the same ole, same ole.

We're headed to Kingston, Ontario, to visit friends who just moved there. They plan on taking us sight-seeing, so I know we'll have a good time.

same plan we have for the question of the day LOL!!

We live on an Island,and so many tourists come here on holdiays! I think with the new "staycations" it'll be worse than ever, the city beach park is already jammed.
So, we'll go the reverse way! We're heading south to Oregon to my son and his wife's home (near the coast.) We'll take the Pt. Townsend ferry and drive down along Hood Canal, missing the Seattle freeway traffic.

Even though they're near the coast, they don't get the crowds like here. We might go to Depoe Bay for a day, but other than that we'll just BBQ and visit.

Our family reunion is tomorrow. We plan on going and spending a fun day with family, those we see all the time and those we only see on this day. If we aren't too tired, we are going out dancing saturday night (I need a drink). Sunday is the big University of Kentucky and University of Louisville (this is where my daughter is currently enrolled) football game. Go Cards!!!. This is a big rivalry, a friend of ours is having a cookout/Texas hold 'em/watch the ball game/ all day event at his house-it is a great time. There will be lots of people there rooting for both teams, so it should be a lot of fun. Monday morning is our town's annual Labor Day Parade-our county fair has been going on this week, it ends Sunday with a horse show, and then monday the icing on the cake is the parade. After the parade we all gather at my house for burgers and dogs on the grill. I'm tired and happy just thinking about all the fun stuff planned for the weekend. Maybe next weekend we can have a nice quite time.

We are heading to the house at the lake this weekend. My brother and his girlfriend are coming up too. It should be a nice weekend, but hot, and Grant can finally go in the water now that his toe is almost healed so he'll have alot more fun up there too!

I forgot to mention, we will we eat mass quanities of food, we will be pertaking of alcoholic beverages, and laughing until our sides hurt. I may not survive. I think these are the three things my doctor has warned me about. Wish me luck. LOL

still carless, so not much. was going with dh to play fantasy foodball, but they changed the location, so decided to stay home...

think we'll do shopping today...(and dinner out) knowing dh, he'll want to putz round the house (boooring!) but might as well get the outside stuff in...we got out the table and chairs and never used them!

it's supposed to get warmer (high 80's, yuck)so inside or shade will be just fine!

My youngest DS is moving out this weekend. He has rented a house about 30 miles away. So I will probably help him on this end.

We are going to oldest DS's house on Monday for skeet shooting and target shooting, food and fun.

Pool party Saturday, they have lots of food, games and pool activities. Lasts most of the day.

Sunday, church and then off to another pool party.

Monday, as of right now nothing.

We have perfect weather for this weekend, low 80's and sunny. I should have a nice tan by the end of the weekend.
