What are the odds?

Walking down the road in Edinburgh, Scotland a number of years ago....I heard my name called from across the way. An acquaintance from my home town happened to be there on vacation as well, saw me and called me. We ended up having lunch together.

About 2 wks ago, DH and I were on vacation and walking down the street of a very small town in upstate NY. Again, heard my name and a friend from college was walking toward us. She didn't know we were in NY, nor did we know that she had a meeting on that very street, at that very time. We had dinner with she and her husband...great fun!

Yes, it's a small world all right!

I met a dear lady who became a very very dear friend in pottery class. She was much older, Could have been my mom or even grandma. We were talking in class and come to find out she went to my HS. She was the first graduating class and I was the last from that school before a new one was built. She would laugh and ask me who my favorite teacher was. I told her, it was 40 years difference. I think they wouldn't be the same. But we smiled over the same buildings and history. It was a really old, brick, very cool building.

Anyway, I think we were meant to meet cause after a few years of class, she had a stroke. I would go visit her every week. Besides the stroke she had dementia and her family wouldn't even visit, cause it was so hard to talk to her. I loved her. I would take her lunches and we would picnic at the nursing home. She would ask the same 4 questions again and again and I would answer. I did that for 3 years. I was there when she died and her family wasn't. They live in town and in the last 3 years of her life, I think they came to visit 6 times. Makes me so mad. But at least she knew someone cared. I could have just walked and away and she would never had known, I would have. I couldn't do it.

So yea, small world. She grew up in a tiny little town that I ended up growing up and we went to the same HS.

Some things are fate.

It is a small world! Once some acquaintances were talking about the best friend of their DD's. Some of the things they said sounded like my cousin's DD. Sure enough it was the same girl! This is in a town of about 50,000 people... so I thought it was pretty odd.

A number of years ago, my DH and I were in Chicago for an international meeting of his occupation. We were invited out to dinner by a sales rep for some medical equipment that his facility was interested in. When we met at the restaurant, the reps wife looked at me and said, "You look familiar." Her first name was Nileen, which is unusal, and I asked her where she went to high school. Turns out, she was in my class at MHS and she actually sat in front of me for all 4 years in home room.

Not only is it a small world, but it is a wonderful world when you hear stories like cwnev.Thank you for making it a better world.

I grew up in a town of 700 people, went to a small country Church of maybe 100 members that my great grandparents (all 4 of them) founded.

When our oldest DD decided to have the baby adopted she was carrying, it happened that the first couple's portfolio she read were the couple that she decided on...before she read anymore. We meet face to face with this couple a couple of weeks later. I had brought along alot of family history, her childhood pictures and family pictures. While the paperwork was being worked on after the lengthy meeting, the mom-to-be was looking through the family history. She asked me how I was related to Oscar S...I said he was my grandfather, then she asked if my grandmother had an unusual name...I said no, but there is another Oscar S (different middle initial) with a wife with an unusual name in our small little town. Come to find out....she had been to my little hometown, and to my little home country Church!!! Her parents had met the S's on a bus tour when she was a preteen and she went with them to visit the S's a couple years later!

We all lived about 300 miles apart! (We know we had His hand in the adoption!)

I hope you all understand what is happening. I truly don't want to come across as some God fanatic. I went to Catholic schools all my life and never, ever believed in God (who knew?)
I went to a high school with cloistered nuns (4 years). One time, they took all the seniors on a "retreat". In this big ass bus. Three nuns came along with us.
I was the one who put the 4 ft statue of the blessed virgin that was in the lobby of this retreat center in Sister Mary's bed (yup, that was her name, no kidding) then we covered the statue with a blanket.
We still laugh about that. Then I went through the rest of my life. It ws one bad thng after the other. I remember saying to myself "why me?"
And it wasn't that I was being punished for the pranks. Whatever I did was all in fun. I can say now, 30 years later, "thank you, God". When I look back at my life, I should have been dead. Three times over.
To think that I never believed in Him, when he was there, right by my side the whole time. It's amzing. And believe me, it's not luck.
I'm here in this B&B, with my beautiful, beautiful husband and my two gorgeous Saint Bernards, because I'm supposed to be here.
If all that happened in my life, DIDN'T happen, I wouldn't be here right now. And I KNOW I'm supposed to be here.
So when you say "it's a small world" -- there's a reason why these people come into your life. Or come into your life AGAIN. You just have to tap into it.

A few weeks after my daughter was killed in a car accident, we had to meet with the State Troopers that worked the scene, just for them to answer questions I had. The St. trooper called and told me to meet him at a lil truckstop restaurant. When the accident had happened, I had BEEN trying to get in touch with my BEST friend from years ago. Never could. Well, while waiting for the troopers in this restaurant, the door opens and in walks my best friends husband with their 2 sons. I stood in disbelief! I asked them how they knew we were going to be there, they said they didn't, they just happened to stop there for shrimp po-boys, and had been traveling from Washington State to go to Florida. OMG!!! Did my dgt. have a part in this, or what?? I was finally able to get in touch with my best friend after about 15 years. Her 2 boys were teenagers now, and last I saw them they were babies.

I'm so sorry about your daughter. Yes, of course she had a part in this. I would treasure your relationship with your best friend. If the car accident didn't happen, you wouldn't be where you are today with your best friend. And this relationship is very important to you being a happy person in this world. I truly believe this. It just all, somehow, makes sense.
