Also had it first in Italy, in Venice, and loved it, too. I don't know if it was the ambiance, or what, but it's never tasted as good since! I have seen recipes, but never have made it. It's actually less caloried than our usual ice creams. There is a recipe on allrecipes.com, so maybe I'll try that one some time.

I want to try this. Saw Giada make this. I have already made the lemon syrup and frozen it.

Limoncello Granita

1 1/2 cups Lemon Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1 cup (8 ounces) mascarpone cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup limoncello liqueur
Pinch fine sea salt
Directions
Place the simple syrup, mascarpone cheese, limoncello, and salt in a food processor. Process until the mixture is smooth. Pour the mixture into an 8-by-8-inch glass baking dish. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until the mixture is firm.

Using the tines of a fork, scrape the mixture into small serving bowls or glasses. Serve immediately.

Lemon Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar
1 cups water
1 lemon, zested and juiced
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, lemon zest, and lemon juice over medium heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool, about 20 minutes.

Just give me the limoncello, thank you! LOVE that stuff!

I love limoncello, too ;o) Our favorite is Sogno de Sorrento and we always have a bottle in the freezer.
Since I already have the hazelnut spread and the lemoncello, I'm going to make hazelnut gelato and Limoncello Granita this weekend. My DH is already swooning LOL.

We have one in our freezer as well....love the stuff.

I have seen it on some of the cooking shows but never tried it.May have to do that next week when all my kids are here.
Or better still....I just googled Gelato and there are 3 places here in Albuquerque that sell it.One is not too far from me.I could just go check it out first!

I intend to make some today, I'll let you know how it turns out. If I was close to where I could buy it I would go try some.

When my DH and I visited our cousins in Boca Raton FL, they took us to a place not far from where they were staying. It's called Sonny's Gelato Cafe off Federal Route 1. Mama mia! They have some of the best gelato. Besides their gelato, the food is definitely worth the trip as are their delicious pastries, especially the sfogliatelle. I digress, but if anyone is in the Boca Raton vicinity, make sure you check them out. It's worth the drive.
