3 tick bites--and the crazy price of Doxycycline!

On Thursday my knees started hurting in a way that made me wonder if I'd been bitten by a tick. By late that afternoon I had to cut my mowing short because of knee pain, especially in my right knee. I also had pins and needles in my stomach--another symptom of Lyme disease. So when I found a tick attached to my foot the next day I wasn't surprised.

I sent the tick away to be examined as usual, but I requested a prescription for Doxycycline without waiting to hear how long the tick had been attached. I was surprised when I picked up my prescription. I've had Doxy many times over the years and never paid more than $7. This time I had to pay $45, and the pharmacist said without insurance it would have cost me over $300! He explained that there's a shortage of Doxycycline right now.

PS: Today I removed two more feeding ticks--one behind each of my knees. The tick on the right leg had obviously been attached for some time. No wonder my right knee was so painful.
