Mine was very laid back! Caryn & Dean went to Des Moines for the Good Guys car show....3200+ cars!!!

I did some sewing, played on the puter and washed and hung out some clothes...nice!

We went out for supper last night, but the Italian place was closed, so we went to a pizza buffet...it was okay. Nice day in my book!

Quiet, except for the 9:00 fireworks.

It was the three doggies and me..The fireworks started before nine and the last ones in my area went off at 12:18AM.. I thought Mikey would die before they were over..I dread the fireworks every year because of that poor lil' guy. The other two sleep right through it all..thank goodness for that.

Uneventful. I was home yesterday, gardening and cleaning. The high point of my day was my evening shower.

Funny you should mention beeping. My Wolfy (Husky-Shepherd) is terrified of loud noises (gunshots, fireworks, thunderstorms) and a very tiny noiseÂthe beeping of a low-battery smoke alarm. Last night he was sticking to me like Velcro, panting in a nervous manner and generally driving me nuts. I thought it was the faint sounds of fireworks outside until I realized I could hear the very faint sound of a smoke alarm beeping. But where?

I can't tell you how much time I spent in the basement, the second floor, and the attic, trying to find the source of that beep. I finally discovered it in a cupboard. I guess I had tossed an extra one in there at some point with its battery inside.

Is it any wonder my shower was the high point?

It was ok, made bbq chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes for me and Alex. Dessert was jello (red and blue) with cool whip on top. Gave Luther a couple doses of doggy "valium" for the fireworks later in the day and spent a few hours pulling weeds. It started to rain so I came inside, showered and took some Flexeril to help my aching back and to sleep. I had to get up early today to go to work and the fireworks were starting when I was going to bed. I fell asleep pretty quickly for me and woke up an hour late. I still don't remember turning off my alarm clock this morning. I still made it on time, though, rushed through my morning shower and grabbed a bagel to eat in the car.

It was nice. I took some already grilled steaks and baked potatoes to my mom's for her birthday dinner. We also had some stuffed strawberries as well as brownies and ice cream. Bob and I ate our steak and potatoes for supper at home. Mom, Anna and Mom's dh ate theirs later in the day at their house. Her dh is almost totally blind and often drops food as he eats it. He's very self conscious about eating in front of others, so I didn't want him to feel uneasy. I did tell him I was going to eat some strawberries and ice cream with them though so we could sing to mother. He went along with that. He's really such a sweet man.

All three of our dogs are afraid of fireworks, but poor Penny almost had a nervous break down. I felt so sorry for her. She tried to hide in places she couldn't fit into. She stayed in a closet most of the time and under the bed until I went to bed, then she got in bed with me, then she got out of bed and then back in the bed. You get the picture. I ended up putting a dog bed on the floor next to me with an extra blanket in it. I kept one hand on her until I fell asleep. She was still there this morning.

Fireworks started here again a while ago and she's going crazy again. It's going to be another one of those nights.

Stayed home and relaxed. DD & spouse and friends went camping so it really was quiet, except local fireworks until about 1am. Quiet today except some noise now: hope it stops soon. I really never have liked homemade fireworks. But do enjoy the professional stuff.

We went to the street party and I had a lot more fun than I thought I would. The food was good, the company good and the fireworks they purchased were amazing! The firework "lighters" could have been more prepared.. a couple fell sideways and once 3 got lit at the same time by accident.. so it was a little scary at times. All in all, a very good night. It will probably become a yearly event.

home...I guess they saw our "Welcome Home Private
Bondurant"...because they left a note with the flag..

Jon was humbled by that and I had tears in my eyes.

We had a nice 4th with both sides of the family coming here for BBQ. However, I wasn't as organized as I usually am, and I found myself in the kitchen most of the time. I try so hard not to do that! I was so tired when everyone left. This weekend we are just hanging out, relaxing.

Crazy.

A couple we know invited me over to eat with them. (My husband works on a tow boat and is gone for two weeks at a time). People seem to think if you are by yourself on holidays, you must be unhappy....not true in my case. I really didn't want to go but I did.

They had another guest, a woman who was very high on her medication. She told me her woes...and, she did have a lot of those! Last winter she got too close to a space heater and her nightgown caught on fire. She was badly burned on her back and butt...also arms. To illustrate the point, she pulled up her shirt and down her pants. 8-) And then
on her way home from the hospital after being there I forget how long, she was in a wreck and had to go back to the hospital. And then her father died. And then her house burned to the ground. So...she had had an awful lot of trauma in a period of about 4 months.

Somehow the conversation went to breast implants, and she said she had hers taken out. To illustrate that she pulled up her shirt and showed me her boobs. *sigh*

She said I would make a good therapist, because I listened to her so politely. Sheesh! What else could I have done?
Anyway, as soon as I saw an opening, I said I had to be getting on home to take care of my evening chores. Thank you very much for inviting me.

And, zoom! I was gone.

I live in the country and usually the 4th of July out here is like a battlefield. I so hate fireworks, and I guess financial restraints kept people from buying so many. There were some, but nothing like in the past. One of the neighbors up the bayou used to put on a display that riveled
Disney World, but his house was re-possessed and the new owners don't do that. Thank goodness!

Well, mine was not anywhere as exciting as Marilyn's LOL.

I stayed home most of the day while Jammer went to his brother's to help him BBQ. I went out there later in the evening to visit and eat. We had a great time!

We have had so many months of drought that I was very worried about fireworks, but thankfully we had rain several times in the past week, so there was not so much fire danger.

My neighbors shot off fireworks, but not for too long. I was just too tired to go to the window and look. *S*

Overall it was a nice relaxing day.

mombondo, I'm so glad that Jonathan was home. That was very thoughtful of the company to leave a personal note for him.

It was just me and Dh for dinner, the kids went off with their friends. Spent the evening settling down the dog, she hates the noise from fireworks or thunder.

DH had to work the weekend but I went to the parties without him. Had a pool party on Friday and Saturday. Fridays party was a potluck, more food than we usually have. Boy was it good. Saturdays party was crab legs, very large crab legs! That was a treat, I don't have them often.

I got a great tan since I was in and out of the pool two days in a row. I love swimming and soaking up the sun.

Later today we go to friends house for cards and dinner, plan to be home early and go to bed. DH feels left out since he had to work through all the parties.

Really quiet, normally it's like a firecracker factory around here, but it was pretty low key.
The cops usually show up evey year, if they were by this year, they must have been disappointed!! LOL!!

Where we live, it's a traffic/parking nightmare to try to drive to see fireworks at a school, park or pier. Home fireworks are illegal here (that doesn't stop some folks, but we're boring).

Our tradition -- a nice supper at home, then off to the top of a nearby 3-story parking structure! From our vantage point on the roof, over the course of an hour or so we could see 7 public displays at a distance and one more close up.

No cotton candy, but hey, you can't have everything!

We had a nice weekend except DH was away working. All the kids, grandgirls and friends were here. We had lots of fireworks we bought in TN. We had an assortment of things to eat. BBQ ribs, grilled shrimp, steak, brats and hotdogs, greenbeans, grilled potato skins, potato casserole, salads, corn on the cob, cottage cheese, coconut cream pie, white pie and apple roll. No one went hungry. :)

What is white pie?

ok, after I posted that I wished I hadn't. LOL The first post I made on the KT was something about pies. I don't remember what exactly. I posted the recipe and caught all kinds of crap about how it sounded awful. Anyway, it's a local thing. No big deal, but my kids love it. Here's the recipe.

1 level tsp. Corn Starch
1/2 C. sifted Cake Flour
3/4 C. Sugar
1 T. Butter
2 C. Milk
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Almond extract
2 Egg whites
1/4 C. Sugar
Whipped cream or Coolwhip

Mix well and cook on medium until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool.

Beat 2 egg whites with sugar until peaks form. Fold egg whites into filling and pour into baked pie shell. Cover top of pie with whipped cream and top with finely chopped nuts or coconut. Keep refrigerated.

We left on the 28th and came back today. We have a home in Southern Indiana near French lick. We have loads of company and the grandkids were down for the fireworks. We have had the place for 15 years and this was the first time we had gone in for the show. They were really great and tons of them.. For those of you that know the area while we were there we went to check out the Dome since it has opened. It is beautiful. Loads of flowers. It would be well worth visiting... We went through when they were giving the tours during the remodeling. Of course, they now have the gambling boat. I haven't been there.. Not much of a gambler.......... Susie
