I dropped my iphone in water too. DS was able to remove the cover and some part (SIM card?), then bury in rice for however long you want. Then I sat it on the DVR machine which was warm for a couple days. I also ran the hair dryer on it from a distance so it did not get too hot.

PS that's dry rice of course. I took mine to Apple and they said it was corroded inside, but it still works fine.

Give it a week before putting the battery back in. It should be okay.

A week? are you crazy? if the kid goes a week without a cell phone the cost of the head shrink will far outweigh the cost of a new phone.

My boss did that. She was brushing her teeth and talking to her husband on her Blackberry, when she dropped it in the sink. She took the battery out and blew the hair dryer on it. Worked fine the next day. (Yes, my boss is young and a little crazy.)

This kid is 40, Lazypup! And, he's already in therapy,lol. Doing well, I might add!

I've always been told NEVER to use a hair dryer on them as you're pushing more moisture into the phone..but to use a vacumn hose about an inch from it and suck that moisture out...then put it in rice...I've saved a couple of phones this way!!

I left the last phone in the rice for two days and it worked fine!

Now if my son would stop dropping it and breaking the glass front! Hubster has replaced it twice already!

Remove battery and if you have one with a SIM card, remove that too. Air circulation is what will help dry it out. Rice will absorb moisture but keep air moving around it too and move it in there so it always has dry rice or other desiccant to absorb moisture.

I once had a cell phone go through the clothes washer. Took it out, laid it quietly in a safe place where it wouldn't be disturbed. About a week later, I tried it and it was fine. Apparently it was able to dry out and all the agitation didn't harm it.

Maybe the spin cycle took the water out! LOL!

I know they say not to use the hair dryer, but I did it anyway. It was many feet from the phone so it did not heat up much.

Those little silica packs work too, I've started saving all of mine just in case. It's also a good idea to keep one in your camera case to keep out moisture.
