Stephanie Plum Novels

I can't recall who it was on KT that said these Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich were so good, but I took your word for it! I found an EBAY auction and was able to get (all, I think) 14 of them for a very reasonable price. They just arrived today! Whoopee! Now, just have to find the time to read them :-)

They are a hoot. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I literally laugh out loud when I read her novels.

I love the Stephanie Plum books, too. I may have been one of the folks singing the praises of that series on other posts.

There are now 16 books in the series. Finger Lickin' Fifteen was just released in paperback, and Sizzling Sixteen was released June 22. And don't forget to read the four "between the numbers" books. You should read them in the proper order too, or there might be a spoiler or two.

They are Visions of Sugar Plums (8 1/2), Plum Lovin (12 1/2), Plum Lucky (13 1/2) and Plum Spooky (14 1/2).

Oh, I love mysteries too. Evanovich and Grafton are two of my favorites. I spent the winter reading everything I could get at the library by Ruth Rendell and everything she's written under her pseudonym Barbara Vine. No one does character-driven atmospheric mysteries better. She's English and all her mysteries are set there. I followed her up with Denise Mina, whose stories are all set in Glasgow, Scotland. Her Garnet Hill series is excellent, the heroine is very atypical, she's an alcoholic incest survivor who can't keep her nose out of other people's business. I also just finished reading a bunch of Laura Lippman's books, which are all set in Baltimore. I just learned she's married to one of the producers of The Wire. The other day I picked up a Tess Gerritsen book at the library. It sounds good. Is anyone familiar with Christopher Brookmyre? All of his books are also set in Scotland. They're very funny in that dry, dark humor kind of way. And if you want to read them, you have to be able to take some very colorful language.

I've read the Grafton books and have enjoyed them as well as the Stephanie Plum novels. I really like the Plum novels as books on tape for when DH and I are making a car trip...they are funny and lively and yet mindless enough to go with vacationing. We both enjoy them. I think the key is to space them with time and other books between readings so you don't tire of them. I just finished Pillars of the Earth which I enjoyed...like a modern day Les Mis where characters and coincidences keep happening....someone miraculously shows up who you haven't heard from in 300 pages...that kind of thing. But it was good. I've just started Doerr's All the Light We Cannot See...it is certainly popular as I was #14 on the library's hold list.

I tried Ministry of Utmost Happiness and it just was not the right time or something so I returned it. Might try it again. I do like the name. Somewhere I had heard Lincoln in the Bardo was supposed to be very fine so I did seek it out and just finished it. It is highly acclaimed, and was interesting in parts , but mostly I just made myself read it and finish it, I think because I felt guilty about not sticking with Ministry of Utmost Happiness. lol sort of. I think Lincoln in the Bardo was a over my head. but I do feel a sense of accomplishment. I would say it was The Whole Town's Talking but not as easy to follow and less entertaining. Next up for real will be the Cooking Gene which now that I have looked into it, really does look like it will be a great read. Will keep you all posted.

Just finished our latest book club read, The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt. My brain hurts and some of it was uncomfortable to read. It was written before the run-up to the 2016 election and all that has happened since so I wonder if he would hold now to some of the things he wrote. Tonight is our author meeting and he will get asked that for sure. I am no longer a fast reader, but I'm also reading things that require more of my deep attention and going back repeatedly to really understand. I want to read Tim Urban's What's Our Problem but doubt I'll get to it anytime soon. Gosh it's been decades(?) since I read The Shell Seekers and can't remember anything beyond being totally engrossed in the story.

I was so disappointed to read that Katherine Heigl is going to star in the movie version. I'm having trouble picturing her in the role.

I still think Lauren Graham would be perfect.

I started with #1 on the flight home from Florida.
Problem with them is that you can read them too fast! lol

I'm on six right now. picked up 3 at the paperback book

They are sooooo funny. I was reading in bed one night and got to laughing so hard my DH asked me what I was laughing about, and every time I'd try to tell him, I'd start laughing harder. It took a while to gain my composure!! I just LOVE them.

I'm sorry, but I disagree that the books get bad.
All one of the books has to have in it to be a winner is Ranger saying "Babe..."

Interesting article, Maire Cate. So the studio paid $1 million for the movie rights to her first book before it was even published......imagine what they'd have to pay if they bought it today!

They mentioned that Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Lopez had each been lined up to play Stephanie. I hadn't thought of either of them in the role, but I think Lopez might have worked well.
