It really is better to read them in order because the cast of characters builds as they progress, they are written in numerical order so it makes it easy. You can read them out of sequence of course but I think it is easier to follow along with events and characters in order.
They are my favorite books I have all of them.
One for the money
Two for the dough
Three to get deadly
Four to score
Etc

I've got them all (on my Kindle), but have only read the first one. I tried to read it years ago, but just couldn't get into it. Last year I decided to try again and it just clicked. I loved it. Haven't got to see the movie yet.

And I agree with Raven. The characters will build as you go, so best to read them in order.

Yes read them in order but I have a suggestion. I wouldn't buy all of them immediately. Why not read a couple first to see if you like them enough to invest the money. I think she's up to 18 now and that money adds up. I really enjoyed the first one and found myself chucking at some of the funny comments the author made about people, the city of Trenton and New Jersey in general.

However after I read the first four or five they began to lose their appeal. I think the author just started churning them out in a formulaic fashion. I'm not expecting these to be great novels of literature, I was just looking for pure entertainment but she's become so repetitive in plot and dialogue that I stopped reading after # 12.

Good advise maire cate (and everyone else). I'll get them one at a time and see how it goes. Entertainment is what I'm looking for right now but have several of the classics I'd like to revisit. Thanks everyone.

I have never been disappointed with the Plum series, she puts a new one out every year at my birthday, my husband loves that makes gift buying a snap.

Loved all of the Plum series, but not so much the in between ones with Diesel like Plum Lucky. Go for the numbers first. Gemma Halliday's High Heels series is similar and also good as well as Barbara Allan's Trash and Treasures Antique series. These are great humor/mystery series when you just want something fun to read.

I've read all the Stephanie Plum books and loved each and every one. The humor is great.

If you have a library card, you can borrow them in e-book form, if your library does that. I live near a tiny town and ours does. :) I haven't purchased a book yet, don't really intend to.

if you know someone that also has kindle and owns the books they might be lend able and you can borrow them for like 14 days? Nice way to read them with out spending a lot of money.
