I hope it's better than Sixteen. How many times can Stephanie get stupid and lose a cuffed FTA? How long can she and Lula survive on fat and sugar? Why doesn't Stephanie get as fat as Lula? Can we really be asked to tolerate yet another bomb, blown up car or thug going after Stephanie and either Ranger or Morelli magically coming to her rescue. How many times can Lula discharge a firearm and not get arrested? How long will Grandma Mazur continue to be allowed into funeral homes when she repeatedly opens closed coffins? The first few books were fun, but Evanovich (or whatever ghost writer takes over) really needs to develop a more mature style of writing. I recently tried the "in-between" books and couldn't finish any of them. Unbelievable situations may be entertaining but fantasy characters go too far. I decided to read all the Plum books in order and have done a sixteen book marathon. I'm not sure I can take any more of the "same old same old." The movie "One for the Money" is supposed to debut in January and I do plan to see it because I am interested in how all the characters are fleshed out. I hope I won't be disappointed.

mudlady, love your analysis of Stephanie! Yes, definitely, the formula is always the same, and after book 14 (I think) I had sworn them off, but somehow 16 wasn't so bad, so ... as a summer read, I still look forward to these every year. I think they're best read with long gaps in between.

I am hoping against hope that Evanovich is ready to let Stephanie & Co. grow up and finishes up the series. I'm encouraged by the Amazon blurb, which includes the following: "...Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it's time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger..."

Maybe we'll at least get a step or two towards the resolution of the Ranger or Morelli question!

(I also found the "in-between" books completely pointless and unreadable.)

You might want to ask over on the Fruits and Orchards forum and see if the growers there have experience with them. Like Wayne said I would speculate the winter cold is the issue since GG is normally a temperate zone variety for further south growing. Dave

Great advise, if I could graft... I am pretty novice in fruit trees. How do you know what it is grafted on? I needed to know this for my apricot tree I planted last year to see if it is nematodes-resistant and Stark Brothers couldn't answer this question for me - they said they don't know. I feel there is a big disconnect between all the scientific information I can find in the internet and reality to buy the right fruit trees from sources available to me. Can you point me to the exact place to buy/type of the tree that would be grafted on Castleton? Or I take it wrong, and Castleton should be grafted on something else? About topping the branches. In one season it grows the shoots about 5' tall from the skeleton branch - just almost upright strait shoot. I just can't afford such length to mature - there are wires above it. I bought the tree as "dwarf"(the label was on the branch) to find another "semi-dwarf" label attached to the trunk and covered with mulch in the pot. So I guess it is neither - dwarf nor semi-dwarf and just doesn't fit my location( Just as usual - made a search on Internet. Couldn't find ANY place that sell Castleton plum tree. One place is out of stock but they do not have dwarf anyway... This post was edited by galinas on Thu, May 8, 14 at 6:41

I did a quick Google search and got this, from the link below - "Bruce" Plums - The plum variety "Bruce" is a hybrid plum produced by crossing a Japanese plum with a member of another plum group, called European plums. A tree that can be 10 to 15 feet tall at maturity, it blooms in early spring, producing masses of small, bright white flowers. Somewhat earlier to ripen than "Methley," "Bruce" plums are usually ready for picking by the start of June. The fruit is especially large and has distinctly red skin and yellow or orange flesh. The variety is generally not self-fruitful and requires a nearby pollinator such as "Methley" or another Japanese-type cultivar for cross-pollination." It's a lot more similar to Amethyst Mist than it is to Midnight Rose - a rich, plummy color with heavy veining that takes on a silvery cast in cold weather. In my area, Midnight Rose is a dark purple all year long with pink splotches on the newest growth - no veining, no significant color change with colder weather. How well it does in zone 6 I can't say, but in general all heucheras are extraordinary foliage plants in my zone and I've found most (not all) of the newer Terra Nova introductions to be exceptionally robust plants. I've just purchased several 'Fire Chief' to add to my garden - incredible dark coppery coloring! btw, I grow most of my heucheras in pretty much full sun. I find the coloring is best maintained under sunnier conditions.

I liked the between the numbers books featuring Diesel. Read them all while floating in the pool last summer - perfect venue for such trivialities.

I'll keep reading as long as I get belly laughs.
