Life with a two year old (not mine)

Friend sent me this, from email she received from her DS. DS has a 2 month old and a two year old.

Here goes:

Oh, life with a 2 year old!:

We have had a busy night. Claire was fussy for an undetermined reason. We had another strike by the toilet paper bandit, who takes 4-5 rolls of toilet paper and puts them all into the toilet. We found them a couple hours after the deed, so the water from the bowl had time to soak up all the way through several toilet paper rolls up to above the seat. Even though we had no eye witnesses, we informed AE of our displeasure of 5 rolls of toilet paper being placed in the bowl.

AE is abbreviation for their two year old!

Oh dear! I have to giggle though as all three of my kids did this at one point in time too. We had to keep the extra rolls put up high in the bathroom cupboard. My middle child also tried to flush a cob of corn one time too. How he got from the kitchen to the bathroom with said cob is beyond me...

Well I'm on the other side of the world, so that means prune in August-September, autumn/fall here. I think I did it later than that. Next year I will leave some longer branches on. A few have been knocked off by small boys this year (mine) so i probably only have about six anyway. I will cut them back to about six feet checking the buds (nodes?). Thanks for your advice. Sounds like next year will be the charm. The vine will be about three by then. I would be happy for it to crop, let alone overcrop! One last question. Do the bunches turn up straight away in new growth or is there a chance they may appear later? On my ornamental grape which ironically is covered in flowers they are there as the branches grow. A 4' square of her own, edged so that the plants "can't run away" filled with edibles -- onions are a great idea since they can pretty much survive in spite of being pulled up every couple days to see if they've grown. A tiny sprinkling can is also useful, especially if she has to toddle 20 feet to the big bucket to refill. It's amazing the distractions that can be found in that twenty foot distance. firstkim is so right about the weeding. I played 'plant identification' when DD was two (what is the name of this leaf?) with much repetition, but unfortunately she never forgot the first time she waved a dandelion in my face and I answered, "Oh, it's a dam dandelion!" For several years those plants were all called damlions.

Lulabellesview, I've been gardening for quite a while now. I started with containers at my apartments in my twenties, taught myself through trial and error how to garden around my house in my thirties, and now that I turned forty last month I'm moving on to veggies. I do have a rose obsession but for the most part I've settled in to knowing which ones work in my garden and I'm just enjoying them now. Did add a couple new Austin varieties this year though. Couldn't help myself. My "potager" is being created by raised bed boxes on the south side of my house that really is an RV parking pad. But the overall look of my very small house and lot is very cottagey. I even have a shed back there that is finished to match the house and has lighting. Having great fun reading your blog. Loved the idea of the glass refrigerator containers! The butterfly gold is one of my favorite vintage pyrex patterns. Julie

I would go further and suggest homeowners purchase the 10-year parts & labour warranties AND an annual service contract. This way the installer/manufacturer has virtually no ‘Outs’. I have seen too many cases when clients have been charged – even with 10-year parts & labour warranties for things not covered. As an example, a part has to be ordered (not in the truck) necessitating a ‘second’ trip that is not covered. If you’re one of the ‘unlucky’ ones that does have problems with your system you’ll be glad you purchased all the warranties and service contracts. HVAC repairs become very expensive very fast! You’d do better to have all the leverage you possibly can to argue your position. Before signing a contract, after the salesman tells you about your wonderful warranty, ask them, ‘what is not covered under this warranty; what might constitute an extra charge?” You might be surprised! I know there are many that would say, “If the product is well built and installed you shouldn’t need extended warranties”. I would like to agree, but when it’s +90˚F or -15˚F outside and your system is fried – try telling that to the guy in the truck or his boss on the phone! IMPO SR

My GD,now 26 ,when she was around 2 threw the remote control in the toilet.We had to get it out,take it apart and dry it.After that we sealed them in a zip loc bag.DH always had,still does leaves the bathroom door open.

GD now has a 23 month old and he's already thrown her phone in the fish tank.Told her to put her remotes in zip locs,cause she may experience "Pay Back",LOL,LOL

Not surprised! My kids weren't toliet paper bandits (lol) but about a week ago, Katie (15months) ate half a lipstick! Luckily I caught that one before she could swallow it. When that happens at 8am I just wonder how the rest of the day will go!

Hahahahaha! When my DGD was 3 & DS was "watching" the 4 kids (oldest was 5, twins were about 18 mos.) she had a TP "incident" & the way my DS described it, there was a few inches of overflowed toilet water on the bathroom floor & little Zac "was floating on his back in it."

When my brother was about 3, he threw a potato in the toilet. 40+ yrs. later I can still see my Mom trying to get it unstuck from the drain hole with a fork!
