The Kitchen Table

I'm wondering about posts on this site

I've seen this happen several times and wondered how it happens. A post is put on this site, and stays at the top of the page, for quite a few hours and I've seen it stay there for a day or two......even though there are no responses. I've put in a post a few times that was obviously to no ones interest, and it moves down to the bottom and into the next page. Not complaining, just curious.

The way this site works is that a post stays at the top until there is a response to it. Then, it moves its way down the page as posts with newer responses move above it.

forhgtv is correct, a post stays on top until someone posts a reply, at which time it starts moving down and new posts come in, however if there is a successive post as it is moving down it will pop back up to the top, then once again begins moving down as new posts come in, but each successive new post will once again bring it to the top

"Why don't you guys that talk about brix measure something and give us an actual number? And 56 grams? That's small for a plum. What's the excuse there, they didn't thin?" Fruitnut, I know you are a big fan of the brix meter, and I can appreciate you are trying to establish some objective measure. But for my part, I could care less what the brix measures. My personal motto is the same for my business - to focus on flavor. More specifically, what tastes good to me. That's what I like to eat, and that's what I like to sell (I can't get very excited selling something which doesn't taste good to me.) I fruited about 35 varieties and I have my favorites. What the brix are, I've no idea. I just know what tastes the best for me as grown here. I have about another 50 varieties which are in the ground and haven't fruited yet. I'm sure after I try those, my favorites will change some. All the while I'll probably be oblivious to brix numbers. I don't care much about size either. Like I said, it's all taste for me.

I am very sorry to learn this, and certainly wish Jeanne all the best. I read what was posted at your link by both Jeanne and her son and I'm confused.... there are comments about not knowing for certain whether these tumors are even cancerous, but they're planning on doing chemo?!?!?! Also wondering why an MRI wasn't done?! MRI is *far* superior to cat scans for determining what's going on with your liver! (I know this from personal experience). I have to add that my BF was diagnosed with a sarcoma years ago and they scheduled him for chemo to begin on that July 3. He went in for his first chemo appt and they sent him home because they determined it hadn't metastasized and that chemo could/should not be used as a preventative measure!!! I hope that's not what's going on here and that smarter minds prevail...

Welcome back! What a fantastic experience, thanks for offering to share it with us. I imagine you have LOTS to do getting back into the swing of life. I bumped the Introductions thread for you on the Discussion page, but there's another one with 150 entries that I can't bump but you can find it using the search. Lots of new folks here and lots of fun holiday discussions! Great to have you back!

Thank you all for your kind words and suggestions for finding movers. There is something poetic about this sale: DH and I are moving to Tennessee to be close to my 80-year-old mom, who has become lonely as her friends have passed on and she finds it harder to get out and about, and our buyer wants this house because it is a block away from his widowed mother. We are eager to meet the gentleman to find out a little about him because his approach to home maintenance will have direct bearing on what we have to take away, give away, or sell. If he prefers to have service people take care of the lawn and gutters, he's not likely to need or want a 20-ft ladder! And yes, Lucy132, you nailed it -- Silver Spring it is! I just noticed that our listing at Realtor.com has been pulled. The link shows the house as it looks today, but the listing and price info are from 2003, which is when we purchased it. Very strange.

No, there is a time limit as to how long it stays at the top, without a reply. It seems to me it's 24 hours or so. I saw this quite a bit on the kitchens forum when I used to visit regularly.

Dotmom, if your post even had one reply it starts to move down. If it had no replies, it should have stayed at the top for a while--however long it is.

Do you think your posts had no replies and started to scroll down right away? I don't think that could happen.

Not right away but some seem to stay on top much longer than others, I have noticed that too if that is what you are referring to, Dotmom. Just recently one stayed there for almost 2 days, others moved down after a few hours it seemed.

Thanks for the info, kiddos.
Socks, it has been a while since that happened with my post. I think it was probably a day or less.
Like I said, no biggy, I was just curious.

I think it does, in fact, move down without a reply but, it's more than 24 hours. There is an informational post on the antiques forum with instructions on how to post a picture that has been there longer. I just don't know how long it remains at the top before moving down.

I assumed it was a set time period...like 24 hrs but it may have something to do with site traffic.. like after 50 posts on other posts it will move down or something like that.. not sure.

That's what it means when I see "Bumping it down".

Jannie,,,you will also see that sometimes when ppl are posting an illegal advertisement someone will just input the word ....Spam

That is not only telling everyone it is a spam ad, it also causes that ad to start moving down.

As your post moves down, if someone else adds a post it will move back to the top of the list, then show up under the last item on the top of the list that has not had a response.
