Greetings from St. Andrew's College, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

I'm sitting in the library of the seminary from which I grad 55 years ago. Hey - I even have enough on hand to leave them a donation ... even larger than last year (you've heard of "blowing a gasket"? They just blew a boiler).

See, I've been telling you that frugality pays!

I visited my SIL, niece and nephew in Edmonton, after the small auto problem.

I'd looked for the name of the company in the local phone book without success, but that means little, as the oil guys may be headquartered anywhere and travel all over the place.

Nephew did a search and find that they have eleven locations in AB.

Two of the four colleagues from Korea days who live in this part of the country have passed from this dimension of life recently.

The widow of the couple who shared house with Sue and me just after our marriage sold her house and lives in a retirment home in that village - I had a nice visit with her yesterday, as I started on the return journey ... then had a visit with Danielle and Jason in their (temporary) home in Saskatchewan (after midnight) ... hope he doesn't fall asleep at work today.

Altered plan, to revisit Saskatoon, visited a church where I used to lead youth group, and another colleague from Korea days, who had a stroke a couple of years ago. She knew me instantly. Haven't been able to contact a couple of former clergy friends ... or my niece, unfortunately.

I expect to leave here later today, have a visit with brother and SIL that hosted the reunion early tomorrow, then head back to Ontario.

I need to arrive there at the beginning of the week, as I need to leave for North Carolina and Georgia by mid-week, for the reunion of former Korea missionaries begins on Friday, runs till Sun. noon, then I'll visit niece for a couple of days.

I hope that you've had an interesting, worthwhile and enjoyable week (with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure).

People say you can't go back.....but every once in a while someone, somewhere is given a second chance. Grab onto it and go with it, because it won't always be there.

Glad you were able to take the second chance before they are all gone.

Dear All, It was about a year ago that I posted about getting and planting Lovely Lemon, and I decided I owed everyone an update on her progress and my very steep learning curve. During the late summer and fall I didn't get any new growth, perhaps because the days weren't long enough and hot enough by the time she got settled in the pot. We did fairly well over the winter. It was a slow start, and we lost some leaves in the transition so she was looking rather thin, but very cute, around Christmas. But then we got lots and lots of blooms. It was fantastic. Then late winter/early spring I started to get a lot of lemons. That was even more fantastic. Oh, but then came summer. That was quite the rough patch. I transitioned her outside too late and too quickly, it seems, and we lost a lot of leaves. Then I was gone for three weeks during which we got a ridiculous amount of rain and my well-meaning landlord didn't follow feeding and watering directions. I got home in late June to a very sick and sad looking little tree. The lemons were still growing, but some of the leaves were yellowing and I had lost blooms, on top of the leaves already lost. Then a roofer working on the house dropped a large rock on her from two stories above. It was very sad. But I committed to coaxing her back to health after moping around for a week or so. I knew what creates happy and healthy trees because you guys have proved again and again what works. So I got to work. I pulled off all but two of her lemons, increased the FP for a few waterings, and then the Massachusetts weather started working in my favor by giving me some hot, sunny days. She stopped losing leaves and I got some blooms, which gave me some hope. Then the last week I've been seeing flushes of growth! New leaves! What I've been waiting a year to have. It will take a while still to get her even back to where she was when I got her, but she's on her way. This post is one part update, and one part thank you to those of you who ask questions and those who answer them. I'm still learning, but you got us through our first year alive and growing. I am on natural gas and when I started playing with the air shutter I found that they needed to be almost all the way open to maybe a little closed to get the perfect flame and no lifting. While you really had to close the air shutter almost completely to get a orange/wobbly flame and smoke. I found that the rest of the adjustments gave a blue flame. However, there was lifting or what I will call blending of the flames. For example, on most of the burners, when the port was 50-75% closed, the inner most ring would be a wider fuzzy flame that did look like it was lifting but would meld together. When you got a little shy of full open, I found that this gave the most individual tight flames on each port. While adjusting up and down a quarter turn didn't at first seem to make much of a difference, I noticed lifting on some ports. You also can feel the difference in heat output on high as well. The tighter the flames got and no lifting on all ports, I could feel a noticeable change. I also found that by doing this when its dark out and can turn off/down the lights its much easier to see the flame. Sort of like Trevor's video. What might look like a nice flame can turn out to really be lifting under regular lighting. Although, I adjusted I am not sure if mine is OK or not. I haven't had a chance to re-simmer yet. Thus, not sure if I did it right yet ;).

Hi jojo, we love our OKM stove! The oven has a more stable and accurate temperature than our old one. Each of the burners has a double burner, so it can do both fairly high heat and a low simmer. There are a couple drawbacks though. The ovens are small, and the left "oven" is a height-adjustable broiler rather than a true 2nd oven. The racks are also a spaced too closely together to fit cake pans and pies on the middle 2 racks. The stove also has a little quirk in that the right burners sometimes have a hard time lighting if the oven is on (we use a match or use the left hand burners when that happens). We still love the stove though. It is magnificent and everything about it (the knobs, the doors) feels so solid. One thing that is helpful is that there are a lot of repair folk in our area that specialize in these old stoves, and a wonderful man checked it out and adjusted the burners for us when we installed it. I might be more reluctant to get one if that were not the case.

I had a close friend who did that all the time, didn't matter who he was around and it annoyed the heck out of me especially when we were out in public. I then realized my friend didn't have any social graces. He would also pick at his nose in public too or say things without thinking about who's company he was in. My friend was harmless and a nice guy for the most part but he had many bad habits and I often wished I could say something to him but I never did. He was in the public eye all the time too but his bad habits never abated. I got to the point I didn't want to go out in public with him anymore because of how he presented himself or the things he said to people without thinking. I am sure he didn't think he was doing anything that would disturb people or make them feel uncomfortable and since nobody ever addressed it he continuted to have bad social graces. I grew up with 4 brothers and lots of male cousins. None of them ever behaved the way my friend did in public - picking their nose and adjusting themselves and speaking inappropriately. LOL One thing my Mom taught the boys was social graces and if she had seen my friend do the things he did she would have let him know it was unacceptable behaviour. Mom was a good judge of character and she never liked my friend from the beginning. Anne

That's a great trip you're having, meeting up with old friends, and new. Hope you have a good and safe, remaining trip.
Ashville is about 6 hours from here. Too bad, I won't be available around that time. I'd like to meet you.

Ed--we are usually about 50 miles north of Gainesville, GA in the summer at a campground in Hiawassee, GA, but due to DH having two cataract surgeries and more doctor appointments this summer, we've only spent a few days there. We were supposed to be there--and maybe will--when you are in the area. I will know more later on in the week, if you feel up to going out of your way a little. Or we could meet you in G-ville?? E-mail me and I'll give you my cell number or e-mail you back to let you know if we can get together. Would love to meet you--maybe some of your $$$ savvy will rub off!!!

Sounds like you are having a wonderful trip. I am sure you have enjoyed the time spent with some of your KT buddies and your old friends.
Are you doing all this driving by yourself? If so I admire your stamina !!!

SAw my niece, in passing.

Had overnight with brother's family, now that the pressure is off from dealing wth the reunion. Their son played a musical gig last night, another tonight in Saskatoon.

They had a heavy wind and four persons were holding on to a tent for dear life - managed to keep it, but it was damaged.

I'm on my way back home now.

I'd hoped to meet cynic and sarksals, maybe some others in MN and Marie ND, but don't know precisely where to find Marie.

She said they were rather busy with medical stuff and other things.

It'll be hard to hear back from cynic and/or sparksals, etc., as it's nearing closing down time for libraries for weekends and we hadn't made plans earlier.

Wish me luck for the rest of the trip.

Had a second visit with Carol and Wes - with more pics (had my teeth in and hair combed, this time).

Now in library in Munising, UP-MI, near Lake Superior shore.

Where I left the lights on while having a nap on the route out to the west ... and missed the library closing by ...

... 7 minutes!

Just let the kids know that I'm O.K. - they worry about me, and the last message was from Carol's yesterday, as almost no libraries open on Sun.

I expect to be home by late tonight or tomorrow morning.

At around 5 p.m., I've arrived in Gaylord, MI, about 1/5 of the way from the big bridge to Flint, where I turn east toward Port Huron.

Should be home somewhere after midnight, unless I need to stop for a/some nap(s).

Just sent an email to my offspring to let them know that I'm O.K. ... so far. Couldn't, yesterday, after I left Carol's - no libraries open on Sun.
