I use to work with a Guy who couldn't remember to zip his fly. One Secretary always told him to Zip his fly. I wasn't that brave.

It is a habit, like thumb sucking. I used to work for a lawyer who was always adjusting himself and it really was tiresome. Now, I have noticed my 23 y.o. grandson doing the same thing. I spoke to his mother about this and she said they have spoken to him about it. This is something that should have been stopped years ago, but you can't solve it by putting nasty medicine on their thumb for thumbsucking!

No idea. But I'm recalling that during the last major tennis match, where the Spanish guy won, one of the players kept doing it right before he served. Maybe that's a clue, lol.

Thank for the in put. I didn't feel like it was rude or meant to be rude, the first time I noticed he did it I thought/felt it was just as I mentioned like a girl thing with the panties or his work pants. - I took a shower from the first post until now and thought about a woman who has a bad fitting bra and will pull up her strap often without being aware of herself doing it. My one thought as far as a neg in his behavior - which he doesn't display outwardly- is maybe like zeetera mentioned...he may be having some naughty boy sensations going on and "feels" the need to make the feeling or moment last a bit longer. I did see a young boy -LOL he was in his early 20's, funny how that seems so young now!- anyway this boy was working in a clean up construction type job at a diner that was about to open and he had sports kind of pants on - light weight fabric is a sweat pant style- and there was this young girl working there that he was obviously attracted to and he kept walking around grabbing himself only it was a true grab like one would grab a broom or pole! LOL the Man I'm talking about doesn't do that move thankfully. There is a man that works there I may ask. This other man and I have known one another for a long long time and his mother and I were friends also so I might feel safe asking his since we have history and he knows me.
If I do get brave and ask I will let you all know...

We had friends years ago who had a teen age son that did that.It was annoying and I had small daughters at the time and was afraid there might be something sexual to it.It seemed like he did it more when having a conversation with someone,like he couldn't help himself.Anyway,we found out later that it was a TIC (Tourettes syndrome) and he really couldn't help it.I guess he still does it to this day,although I haven't seen him in years.Maybe that is what your co-worker suffers from? Lordy,maybe he is your co-worker!!LOL wouldn't that be something.His name was Billy!

I for one would be very leery of asking a coworker, no matter how much you might feel you can trust him. All the coworker has to do, is share your question with one other person sworn to secrecy, who will share it with another coworker sworn to secrecy, etc, etc, etc. You see where I am going with this.
I can see where it would soon be all over the workplace that you had asked someone about the coworker who does adjustments, or whatever.

Since this guy is kind of a fun flirt/charming [in some ways he reminds me of one of my brothers who would very sweetly flirt with friends of mine in a fun way...never in a vulgar or disrespectful way] ...I do kind of wonder if he does get a little full of himself without realizing it. Then again I think about that expression one of the women -Blanch? - on Golden Girls made years ago...'Why does a dog lick himself?....Because he can!

I don't worry about asking my co-worker this question too much because if this guy is putting on a pretense being kind, charming and sweet to us women who work around him then turns around and is a whole different man with the guys he works around maybe having him called out on this behavior will put an end to it. If he does get rude - which is hard to believe knowing his character- I do have the advantage of having been raise around men and am not afraid to address the issue if it needed addressed. Often times I have found it better change work paths if that can be done instead of calling people out. I figure people who are trying to get under your skin will enjoy the reaction of knowing they were called out if that is the kind of person they are and if they are not that kind of person they will change offensive behavior. If things would come to the worse case scenario there is always HR!

When I worked there was a guy who was kind of similar to how you describe this guy...friendly, polite, smiling, giving compliments. I always sort of felt ill at ease around him. I don't know why. Then one day I saw some vulgar cartoons he was passing around in mixed company. I then steered clear of him at every chance. I saw him then as a wolf in sheeps clothing and was disgusted by him.

BTW...I did have to report a guy once to HR who was trying to get entirely too flirty and friendly. He got in my space, and just made me very uncomfortable, and there was no reason for him to even be near me, as our work did not overlap in any way.

I asked someone once why some men do this and he told me it's some men's way of asserting their manhood! LOL

I was going to suggest it is an OCD tic kind of thing and he is not even aware he is doing it. If it makes you uncomfortable, be professional and polite but keep your distance.

Lucky gardner and ont gal that is so funny! I'm not uncomfortable Clare, because his behavior doesn't offend me. I have seen men and/or encountered a men who does have dog behavior and will grab themself in a very disrespect way toward women. This man is not like that in any way toward or around any woman. There have been times when he is around conversations in a group with both other women and a few guys these girls know [there is just a few of us who do thing at the same location sometimes] that get a little naughty and while he might grin he has never in a year said anything in the slightest way naughty when a women is around. If he was a naughty boy or doggy it wouldn't be such a mystry to me. He has for me most part reminded me of an old fashion English Gentleman. But who knows. He could be a person who likes to play those he can and the nice guy is just a front!...I'm not at that location long enough to get personal or worried about him getting too personal and don't do anything after hours with the people I work with so I'm not overly concerned. I was just thinking I would feel it would be as embarassing as getting caught picking one's nose, and yet I have seen people just dig away without a care in the world that anyone else notice! LOL....

OK, OK, you're beating a dead horse....so to say. Please introduce yourself.

Just ignore the behavior and hope it goes away. When my brother was quite little he used to grab himself when he had to pee. So it's childish behavior,IMO.

I had a close friend who did that all the time, didn't matter who he was around and it annoyed the heck out of me especially when we were out in public.
I then realized my friend didn't have any social graces. He would also pick at his nose in public too or say things without thinking about who's company he was in. My friend was harmless and a nice guy for the most part but he had many bad habits and I often wished I could say something to him but I never did. He was in the public eye all the time too but his bad habits never abated. I got to the point I didn't want to go out in public with him anymore because of how he presented himself or the things he said to people without thinking.

I am sure he didn't think he was doing anything that would disturb people or make them feel uncomfortable and since nobody ever addressed it he continuted to have bad social graces.

I grew up with 4 brothers and lots of male cousins. None of them ever behaved the way my friend did in public - picking their nose and adjusting themselves and speaking inappropriately. LOL One thing my Mom taught the boys was social graces and if she had seen my friend do the things he did she would have let him know it was unacceptable behaviour. Mom was a good judge of character and she never liked my friend from the beginning.
