If only Diana were alive to see her first grandchild. Blessings to all!

I'm so happy that the baby finally made his appearance, and it sounds like both mother and child are well!

Glad that little guy is finally here--bet Kate is, too!

I loved watching all the excitement in the UK

I, too, feel sad that Diana isn't here greeting her grandson and being a loving grandma.

I am happy that Kate's family will be really on hands to that baby and get such loving and fun from them all.

And Harry too will be a great Uncle, they say he is fantastic with kids.

He is going to be surrounded by love from so many family and friends.

They waited 5 hours before announcing it after his birth.

The Queen saw her great grandson and now can leave on her holidays on friday, that is what she has been waiting, to find out what the baby is and her holidays.

William will get two weeks leave and they said he can't wait to change diapers and do it all. I bet he will be a great hands on dad as his mother sure was to him.

They said everyone for sure thought it would be a girl as Diana wanted a little girl so much.

The royal baby joins the other 131 million children born in the world this year....

Kudzu, good grief!

Nice to hear some happy news for once.

Guesses as to the name? DH wanted "Thurber" until he put it together with "Windsor". ( I married an entertainer.)

I thought maybe a change in tradition, maybe a more down-to-earth name.

like Earl.

HRH Prince Earl.

uh-oh.

Maybe Larry.

I'm a little surprised. They already brought the baby outside, in front of the hospital, to meet the crowd..... only 1 day-old.... and the mother was on her feet walking.... such a fast recovery after birth. I know Kate takes care of herself well. That sure made a difference in recovery after child birth.

I thought that 24 hours was average these days for a problem free vaginal birth. Not that I know a darn thing about such things.

Our DIL had one overnight after our DGD was born in 2011 -- easy delivery on #2. You don't want to stick around inside a hospital any longer than you have to -- all those germs!

I see I was wrong about the surname being Windsor. Maybe Thurber *would* work with Cambridge. LOL

They sure know how to string it out, waiting for the name.

They said on the news what a possible name for the little guy would be and it was a very down-to-earth name. Something like "Bob" LOL

I was thinking along the lines of Alexander Charles then Kate's dad for the third name.
Alexander Charles sounds cool, to me.

LOL....I got my own prince Larry

I think it's wonderful, all the hoopla and just by looking at Kate and William, you can see how they really care for each other.....

What I was wondering, when William called to tell the Queen, did he say, "Hey, Gram, we have a boy" or did he have to address her royal highness? And do you think the Queen will be changing any nappies or baby sitting?
It is a shame all the "togetherness" for this baby can't go on forever......

William and Harry have a warm, close relationship with their Grandmother, and call her Granny or Grandmother. Charles calls her Mum. In public, they all refer to each other by their official titles.

I've heard, recently, that Kate and William won't be using a nanny, a major break in tradition.

And let's not forget the other babies that share the same birthday...

Of COURSE there are other babies born the same day Kudzu!
Geez, don't be such a jerk.

BTW, there's a baby-boom in NJ because of Hurricane Sandy.
Hospitals that usually deliver 5-7 babies are now seeing 15 on an average. More nurses are brought in, etc which lends fact that there's nothing "else" to do when the power goes out! LOL

He has a name now...

The news is filled with sadness and horror every day. It's refreshing to see people joyful and celebrating an event, even if it will never directly affect them. People have all sorts of reasons for caring - for some, it's just an extension of the fairy tales they loved as children while others appreciate the historical aspect.

This baby is no more precious than the others born that day as he's bringing just as much joy to his parents as the other babies. The only difference is the world is watching this one, and if so many people want to celebrate that fact, what's the harm? It's a nice change of pace.

I don't understand the negativity. If you don't care about the birth, that's fine but I don't know why you would want to try to ruin other people's excitement to fit your own opinion of the event.

Whew! Strong words! A "jerk" and "negativity"?

I've simply found all the media orgy surrounding this event to be a little much, and thought that the writer of that article had some important things to say about how this fits in with the real world. I was just trying to add in a little perspective, but, if that is troubling, I'll say no more about it.

'Staying out it ' is the best plan of action for a conversation such as this. Thanks for having some common sense about it.

Is it still a conversation if people try to silence other points of view? Just a philosophical thought....

This was going to be a media event and I am thrilled that it was. It's a nice change of pace from what has been in the news as of late.

I loved every minute of it. It's HISTORY. The baby will be King George some day when we're all dead and gone. Besides they are such a sweet couple. Good news instead of all the negative news day in and day out.

Take it easy, jasdip. Kudzu is NOT a jerk for quoting that article. Kudzu was merely quoting factual statistics and wondering what will happen to the other 367,000 babies born on the same day. We can be sure that the little Royal Prince will be well cared for. He'll not be concerned with the cost of medical care, food, or education; Many others will not be so lucky.

From what I see in Kate's face, her mothering instincts have kicked in and my bet is she'll make a great Mom. I think she looked great with her hair down. I think that I detected the baby making eye contact with mother's face. This is a critical event in the first few days of a baby's life.
