I Finally Did It!

Today I finally made Jasdip's homemade laundry detergent and her recipe for mayo. I haven't tried the laundry detergent yet but will tomorrow. Hope it jells up for me. The mayo is chilling in the refrigerator. Tastes good. Not sure what I will try making with it first. Thanks Sherry for the recipes. I have been busy around here today. I finally got my shower curtain and liner hung after washing them. I really don't like doing that as it hurts my shoulders. Izzi and I have had lunch. She is snoozing, smart girl! Hubby is off to Ohio with Cheryl, Kevin and KC to visit some antiques malls. I thought I would pass on that. Too much walking.

I got the stairs swept and the dishwasher unloaded, loaded and have it running. I also washed up stuff that wouldn't fit into it. Roomba did his job on the family room and now is charging up for another room. Nice day out and up to 81 already. Wish I had my air conditioner put in downstairs. Sure would help with dampness. What is everyone else doing today? Hope it is a good one!

Just came in from doing this and that, and Waffle House for scrambled eggs, bacon, sliced tomatoes and raisin bread.

Went to gym first and did two machines for back strengthening.

Might go back in a while and walk.

I slept in late, until 10 am, and now my DD and the grands are over. The two girls have gone to swim across the street, and DGS Preston has just helped us make 2 huge pans of enchiladas. He is only 4, but was a real helper, and completely understands the dangers and the joy of cooking. What a sweetie.
I have one dog that he just adores, and is sure that I got this dog just for him. To watch them together is like Timmy and Lassie. So maybe I did get this dog just for him, I will never know for sure. Cute to watch them bond.
Always a good day when the grands are here. Love making memories.

It starts out a bit slow, but as the days progress, so does the need to sow, acquire seed, search gardening sites for new ideas, hang out in the loo so you can scour the latest seed catalogues in peace, shop for winter sowing containers with food in them, not food in containers...

brianadarnell, Thanks--I figured it must be that way, but I reallly didn't know for sure. If the switchplates went over the tile, it seems that they wouldn't lay flat over the tile and also the box would be too recessed behind the cover. You would think that some smart tile manufacturers would realize if they made switchplate covers to match their tile (or perhaps just their more popular tiles) they would be big sellers. Or maybe some have, and I just don't know about them yet.

Glad your mammo wasn't bad, hope your biopsy goes well. My sister had the exact same thing about 20 years ago, she's perfectly fine. But it does cause a family to worry! Let us know the result when it's all over.

I Finally did it! My First Rose Seedlings!

In the FWIW department, a couple of years ago, I raised more than 60 seedlings from hips I rescued from a public garden (and a few other roses), and they stayed outside the whole time during a polar vortex winter (planted out after Thanksgiving 2014 with seedlings starting to show up in Jan/Feb 2015). I used my regular potting mix (compost, peat moss, plant-tone and sand), but I used extra sand (just regular all-purpose sand from Lowe's, not builder's sand, which is best for rooting cuttings). The sand promotes drainage, so no issues with damping off. No heat mats, no peroxide, no fungicides. By mid-February I had about 40 seedlings, but others showed up later on. My husband built what we call the squirrel cage (keeps the varmints out, not in) from hardware cloth and piping, and the seedlings stayed protected until they started to outgrow their shared pots and needed their own pots. I think the cage was covered with a tarp when we had freezes, but they didn't go inside or even onto the back porch. Once they achieved some size they were moved to a sheltered place on the ground under a large oak. Dappled shade evidently was sufficient light. More than 60 seedlings was too many, so I let most die through a tough love/attrition process, so theoretically, the surviving 15-20 roses are the toughest of the tough. I went to DS's house to do some things today. A girl came by who is the daughter of a high school friend, so it was really nice to meet her and chat with her. Then I came home and did a few things outside, but mostly just hung around the house. I'm tired because I didn't sleep well last night. Now I'm making dinner for the family, and tonight I'm going to call a couple of friends.

Sunday's my day of rest (along with a few others). I read both newspapers, did four crossword puzzles in the papers and made the bed. That's it!!

Dinner is a salad with romaine, craisins, toasted walnuts, red onion and mandarin oranges topped with chicken. Around the plate will be tomato quarters and hard boiled egg halves. I bought some herbed cheese bread from the farmer's market so we'll have that, too. Dessert will be coconut cake (my favorite Pepperidge Farm) and the rest of the homemade peach ice cream.

I have done nothing. I got up late, missed church and haven't even change out of my pj's. Read most of the day. Fed husband and dogs, Not necessarily in that order.

I guess it is time for me to take a bath and put on clean pj's. LOL
