Going Out For Sunday Breakfast

Every Sunday morning my husband and I get up early and go for a long drive. Along the way we always stop for breakfast, it is our favourite meal when going out.

At most small town restaurants we find the best of breakfast foods, but for some reason at the chain restaurants the food is always poor. I hate when they serve frozen potatoes as hashbrowns, they are just little nuggets on the plate. Is it really that difficult to boil some potatoes the day before and fry them up for breakfast. All the smaller places also put fruit on the plate but not the chain restaurants.

Anyway, who else does not like those frozen hashbrowns, they are a waste of effort putting them on the plate.

I don't like those frozen hash browns either. They are usually very dry and flavorless.

We also like to go out for breakfast. It's fun to try the hole-in-the-wall joints, and their prices are often good.

We love breakfasts out. Those little square frozen potatoes are dry and tasteless. Hate them. I love real potatoes, cooked, sliced and fried. That's what we get in the little mom and pop restaurant.
Usually some cantaloupe, or at the least an orange slice on the plate.

This morning I made biscuits for breakfast again. I'm getting pretty good at them! Nice and flaky with honey or homemade freezer strawberry jam.

We have only 1 car. DH and I drive to work together. I drop him off at his office and continue on to mine, then I pick him up just after 4 p.m. We are lucky to work the same hours and relatively close by to each other. There are times when I wish we had 2 cars but with the price of insurance and gas now it really does let us enjoy alot of other extras we'd have to give up with a second car in the driveway. I just can't see spending all that money to have a second car sit in a parking lot 44 hours a week. And on weekends we're usually together anyway. So we do what we want most of the time. Alot of our friends live out of town and while I hate it, the gas prices haven't really interferred with any of our plans. Yet!

It is like family to go there. When we joined the church, our 3 daughters, two of their husbands and me all at the same time, they let us bring our one daughter's two dogs to the event. The dogs were very good and they sat in their puppy stroller. Then the church members surprised us with a nice big supper they had prepared in the church basement. We had went there for a few years before joining as my Mother had been going there for years. Very nice. Sue

For years, every Sunday I prepared a big breakfast for my family. It varied little from: sausage or bacon or both; homemade biscuits; fried or scrambled eggs; hash browns; gravy; and orange juice, tomato juice, or apple juice. Occasionally, we would have pancakes instead of the eggs, hash browns, and gravy, but always with homemade apple syrup, as well as maple syrup (not home made). Those were the days we could afford calories every week.

Sounds like you have a cozy day planned, Glenda, to ride out the weather. We here in the Great White North (lol!) are having extremely cold weather and even sitting in the living room, I am using an electric blanket to keep toasty warm. We are heading to the West Coast tomorrow and are looking forward to warmer weather, although it has been unusually cold there too.

Your Sunday mornings sound delightful! I like breakfast sometime after 10:00, so a nice ride before would be great. I never order potatoes just because you never know when they'll be those icky things. Give me grits and I'm happy (as long as they salted the water first).

So, what did you have this morning???

Had breakfast at Waffle House, about an hour ago.

scrambled cheese eggs, dry grits, crispy bacon and raisin bread.

THEIR hashbrowns must be awfully good cause lots of people order them. AND they look good as well

Go OUT for breakfast? You mean get dressed to go out...for breakfast? Oh, no. Not here. Sunday is robe and slippers; bacon and eggs, muffin, OJ, coffee; read the Sunday paper. THEN get dressed -- sometime before noon. LOL

Going out to eat bacon and eggs is like going out to have a hamburger. When I go out I want something I can't easily make as good or better at home.

Sorry I can't agree with you chisue, I think going out for breakfast is very peaceful, nice quiet time of day and very relazing. You should try it, you are missing the best part of the day just hanging out in your PJ's. haha

I enjoy going out for breakfast. I guess breakfast is probably my favorite meal anyway and often will order a breakfast when I eat out. Yes I can make it good at home but if I go out I enjoy breakfast, which I did this past Sunday morning.

I love going out for breakfast on any day except Sunday. Too crowded,screaming kids,harried waitstaff. Not for me.

I eat breakfast out often though. I don't order things I could easily do at home. I like to have things like omelettes, burritos stuffed with eggs,chili and topped with Spanish sauce, steak and eggs, pork chops and eggs, Hawaiian waffles, and other things like that. Breakfasts that I don't usually keep the ingredients on hand for and would have too much leftover if I bought them.

We are fortunate enough to have several good mom and pop places to eat at so i don't have to deal with the chain food "steamed" eggs and pre-cooked bacon stuff. We have a lot of Mexican places that serve a killer breakfast too.

There's one place I love that serves breakfast all day a bit farther away. I don't normally like "skillet" breakfasts but they have a breakfast called the "Kitchen Sink" on the menu. It is potatoes,onions,peppers,ham and cheese topped with eggs however you want them. What makes it sooooo good is the potatoes are diced teeny tiny and are brown and crispy on all sides without being hard. It's served with your choice of toast,pancakes or biscuits Gravy if you want.

I can't even finish a half order. I get mine with bacon instead of ham because I only like ham as dinner or fried really well. They always do the bacon diced and crisp before mixing it in. Yum.
