Microsoft Office question

This is driving me crazy. I just downloaded a free version of this software so I could type up a new form for paying my bills. I made the form up myself. Trying to print it but I can't find the dang print button. I even tried clicking on the document itself put it doesn't give me a print option. Do I have to buy an improved version to be able to print?!!!

This is driving me nuts. I even looked it up on their help page but all I get is how to print an Excel sheet...which I'm not doing. I hate computers and they hate me.

Are you talking about Open Office? If so, that's not part of Microsoft--at least as far as I know.

If you're using Microsoft Word, you can use Ctrl-P to get to the Print window. Open Office might be the same.

from the seven forums I found this possible fix "there could be a timing issue if you shut down your PC with outlook running or shut outlook and immediate shut down. Outlook does take some time to shut down fully so you can sometimes get this. If you run task manager and watch the outlook entry when you shut it down you will be able to gauge the shut down time for your system" data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems. you can check some of the many links from google.

Unfortunately there are of course a lot of variables. However, I have found some Office installations claim to have been removed - but aren't entirely. Ergo the reference in the Microsoft link to the "Windows Installer Cleanup utility" which worked, but was subsequently withdrawn for reasons stated. Please refer to the MS link to perform a drive check. Once completed, the defragmentation can be performed via the same route - the 'Defragment now' button is directly below the 'Check now' button. Microsoft's main market for Office is employers, public and private sector. The historical investment most places have made in things like forms, macro-driven apps, interfaces with other systems, etc., as well as what happens as new hires come in, make it much cheaper to continue with widely used MS software. Software license costs are small change compared to infrastructure and support expenses. For employers of any size, the fees paid for Office are a small fraction of the retail price an individual would face. For individuals, a free choice should serve most purposes. For a workplace other than very small, or an employee of a fair sized place who wants work compatibility in using a personal machine, MS is most frequently the choice.

I looked at the page and it looks legitimate to me. MS gives huge discounts to students. The other domains in the page source are ok also. Digital River is used by many companies for digital software downloads. w3.org is the World Wide Web Consortium. The other sites in the list box are just sites MS is using for other countries. I've downloaded commercial software in the past and I've learned to burn a CD or DVD as soon as I get it downloaded. I install from the CD to ensure it's a good copy, then put it in a CD case with a label that includes name of the software and the license key (as well as anything else I might need to know the next time I change PCs or have a hard drive crash).

Thanks Alisande, Ctrl P worked. There is no file tab, which makes no sense. It's microsoft word 2010.

In Word 2010, you have to go to the "Office" button in the upper left corner. Click on that and you'll see a lot of functions that were on the File menu before. This is also where you'll find Save and Save As.

Dees_1 is right, it is the round circle colourful icon at the top left. Click on it, then bring your mouse down to the Print option, if you hover there you should see the print preview, setup and so on options.

The new "Ribbon" style of toolbar is very odd when you first start with it. I am still constantly looking for things that are no longer where they should be LOL.

Kath, an elderly friend of mine wants to start using Word. I was thinking she'd have to buy the whole Office suite, which she doesn't need, but a free version of Word would be ideal. How did you get yours? Is it permanently free, or free on a trial basis? Thanks!

PS: I like to use keyboard commands whenever possible. Two others that might be useful are Ctrl-S for Save and Ctrl-A to highlight everything at once. Also Ctrl-C for copy and Ctrl-V for paste.

I use open office which is totally free so no need to pay for a program that you can get free and does the same stuff. Just save your files as the microsoft file format if you want them to be used by ms office.

And Ctrl-x for delete.

My favourites are using the Home and End keys for jumping to the bottom of the page (end) and up to the top (home)
These two get a real workout!

Microsoft Office Starter came already loaded on my laptop. So far it has done everything I need it to do.

I simply cannot imagine where you can get a free, legal copy of Microsoft Word 2010. Having said that, however, I know that Microsoft does allow a free 90-day evaluation period of its software, but as far as I know, the software will stop working after 90 days unless you buy a license and enter the license key.

Microsoft Office 2010 came on my computer that I bought six months ago. It still works. It's the Starter version.
