Comments (6)Certainly Open Office is a viable alternative to Microsoft Office depending on your needs because the two platforms are not 100% compatible. Certainly you can try Open Office and see if it meets your needs. I don't know about Quicken but I would imagine there is some kind of "export" feature. Whether you use that in a newer version of Quicken or move on, is up to your. I hear good things about Mint (.com) but haven't used it personally. Comments (13)Kath, an elderly friend of mine wants to start using Word. I was thinking she'd have to buy the whole Office suite, which she doesn't need, but a free version of Word would be ideal. How did you get yours? Is it permanently free, or free on a trial basis? Thanks! PS: I like to use keyboard commands whenever possible. So it seems that people generally like it. How much is the sale price ? You probably know that there is LibreOffice as a free alternative, but indeed it is slightly different.
