Hello, we are home.......pic heavy!......

Wow what a wonderful trip, but boy are we tired lol. I took lots of pictures as requested hehehe, I only printed off 319 and I'm not about to put that many here so you guys are safe lololol.

We had a rough start though, we got up at three (that's A.M.) and drove to DFW for that really early flight and I'll be darned we had a three hour "crew rest" delay right off the bat.....then we got to Phoenix and had another delay only this time it was five hours.....lots of time to cool our heels ;0)

Anyhow we got there slept a bit then hit the ground running.

Please excuse the driver side blurb on the right I took this one out the car windshield ;0) and to be honest I'm not sure where this was lol I just liked the waves ;0)

We went to Waikiki:

Then we drove around the island (several times lol) this is Chinaman's Hat, according to a postcard I bought, and I waded here (being very watchful for anything that might want to nibble on me):

We drove around to Sunset Beach just in time to catch the sunset and again I waded in the ocean for a bit and looked for sea glass (I didn't find any ;0( )

We did find pineapples though we went to visit the Dole Plantation and got to see these as they grow:

Next we visited Pearl Harbour, very nice......

The Polynesian Culture Center:

A waterfall with botanical gardens the waterfall was dry so I didn't get a picture of that up on here:

With lots and lots of flowers (my favorites):

And of course several meals with drinks, here is DH and me with a fruity umbrella drink with the ukulele bar sign lit (it might not have been the only lit thing there ;0) - I'm just saying.......)

Anyhow we saw way too much ate and drank way too much and would go back in a great big hurry if we get the chance.

Hi!!1 Welcome back!!! Those pictures stirred up a lot of memories for me. I remember when I was there I knew if I could find the Chinaman's Hat I wasn't far from where my sister lived

Didn't Pearl Harbor tear at your heart? So sad....

Thanks for sharing the pictures. They are really nice ones. I hope we will see more soon.

Thank you Kathy! That spirea is planted so close to the house it really has to arch out, I'm sure it would easily be 5' across if it really had the room to grow. but it seems happy there and I love the back drop it provides in that corners so I don't think I'll move it. and with the 5 maple trees on the property I definitely don't ahve a shortage of leaves! :) Thank you Kathi! Unfortunately I don't know the hardiness of the spirea, all I know is just about eveyone in my area has it. Good luck finding out! Thank you Prairie Girl! Yup that's blue ice amsonia - I love it!! I got that from a co-worker. I'm glad your iris finally bloomed!! I don't know if I could've waited for 10 years, lol! Hi Rick, thanks for the suggestion! I have some plumbago out front that I have to move because for so reason I thought it was good for dense shade but it's not doing anything for me at all. I think moving it under that tree is a great idea, thanks! Thank you Judy! I agree, it helps me so much to see the "big picture" and how the plants co-habitate more then a close up of 2 or 3 companion plants. You all have been so helpful and nice, I'm so happy to be here, thank you so much! I'm off to rescue some more plants from my co-worker. It'll certainly save me another trip to the nursery :)

Marlene, your kitchen looked warm and cozy before, but what a wonderful transformation. You added so much more counterspace--you can never have too much of that! And now you have the perfect "work triangle" with the sink stove and fridge too--bet it feels lots more efficient. Love the rope trim and those pretty tiles you chose. Your husband did an amazing job on the cabinets and that hutch! He is obviously very talented. I can't imagine trying to cut that hutch down like that! Have to ask what kind of saw he used--just curious, I'll never tackle a project that big for sure! LOL You have the perfect dishes to display in your pretty hutch, looks like something from a magazine. And you are getting wood floors too--it's all looking just wonderful and those will be the icing on the cake. The big chick--adds a special unexpected "flair". ;o) Luvs

Again, when someone has put heart and soul into building it's really nice to hear you might have done it right. You know, everyone so far seems to like the kitchen a lot. True story....I posted the kitchen design about 3 years ago on GardenWeb (I think it was on the kitchen forum). It was literally "torn apart". No one seemed to like it or thought it would be a functional kitchen. I just thanked everyone and went ahead and built it. I'm really glad I did b/c it "IS" a functional kitchen and I think it looks pretty nice too! LOL cindylou2006 Wow, that is the nicest compliment so far! Thank YOU!!! As for the backsplash behind the stove.... It is a painting of an apple grove in a heavy winter snow. I tell everyone it's my "dead trees" picture LOL. Honestly, both DH and I love it and that's probably b/c the grove is actually just across the street from where we live. I wanted something that reflects this amazing area so I went to the artist and asked if I could have it reproduced onto a backsplash. He'd never done a backsplash before but it turned out so beautiful that he offers any of his pictures on tile now. He's a great guy and an amazing artist. I'll link his website below for you. The only bad thing... once I found the backsplash I told GC I didn't want the potfiller. But through miscommunication the plumber installed it anyway. Window Well Backing Up During Heavy Rain

Thanks again for everyone's help. It's rained pretty steadily, and with the changes we've made, so far, so good. We removed quite a bit of dirt, and did to regrade away from the window well. However, we can only lower the grading away from the window well so far, as eventually you reach the grass, and at that point, there's now a dip from the grass to the soil. Short of regrading the entire lawn, I can't think of a way around this, as if we build the soil up higher than the grass, the soil would be above the rim of the window well. Additionally, we dug up debris from the bottom of the window well added four inches of pea gravel to the window well. We've also placed some pea gravel in the area around the window well in hopes that slows down any incoming water. However, it's definitely going to take some time to determine if what we did was sufficient. I did confirm that water is not accumulating in the area around the clay drain tile (at least not today), as the roof overhangs that area. One question: If the window well indeed does not have a drain, where does (or should) any accumulated water end up? This post was edited by heldmacm on Thu, Aug 21, 14 at 13:45

I love the pics, and find the growing pineapple fascinating as heck! Thats wayyy different that anything grown up here. I'd love to be sitting in that bar having a cold drink or two right now also!
Please share some more pictures! I will never get to Hawaii in my lifetime and I'd love to see what I am missing!

Hi Zipper! Wow, can I just tell you how JEALOUS I am?!?!? I sooooo want to go to Hawaii. We were at a Luau wedding recently and I told DH that we ought to renew our vows on our 30th. He said that would be nice. Then I said "In Hawaii".....lol He kind of gulped and then said that would be nice too. haha Luckily we have 4 years till the 30th and 3 years till the kids are out of college.

Your pictures are wonderful. What kind of flower is that? (the next to last picture) Too cool!

I bet that pineapple in your drink was delicious. You and your hubby look like Hawaii agree with you!

Lol @ MaryAnn, yup I surfed right on down to the ABC stores and bought souvenirs ;0) Isn't a surfboard alot like a boat? I don't do boats lol.

Liz, I was there in 1978 for 2 hours we had a layover on our way home from Okinawa I didn't even get a chance to get out of the airport at the time. It is a wonderful paradise and I would live there if I could.

Jen, I think you should do it, you would love it there and you definitely need to go for your 30th that would be so great! Your DH will love it trust me, hehehe.

The lady at the info booth in the botanical gardens said that was a heliconia flower, they look like little parakeets to me ;0) I love this one and the Bird of Paradise flower the most...I also love every flower I saw the most....oh shoot I can't make up my mind which is my favorite ;0)

Nodakgal I'd like to be sitting there still sipping that drink lol. It was great and I don't think I had enough time to explore Oahu, and I sure didn't have time to go into every store on Waikiki....sigh lost ops are hard to take sometimes ;0)

Susan it is a Mai-Tai, and it didn't take long to drink it either, somehow they taste better in Hawaii ;0)

Linda, I love Pearl Harbour, but it did make me really sad..I'm very thankful for the boys in service and all they sacrifice for the rest of us..I try to thank each one I see personally it just makes me feel better ;0)

I think we should all tag along on Jen's 30th wedding vow re-up! I bet I could convince Woody if Jen could convince her hubby. Any good fishing for the boys to do there while Jen and I look for cabana boys?

Zipper, I'm sorry it took you so long to get where you belonged, but I think the trip was worth it! Wow, it does look like you were having a lot of fun. And you made me LOL at the bit about being not the only thing lit, roflmao. I'm glad you had fun, and how nice of Keith to suggest this trip, what a guy!

(Aren't you glad you don't smoke anymore? Can you imagine that long of a flight if you were yearning for a smoke?)

Ohmanomanoman, Flamey! I am so glad we quit smokin' we were able to totally relax without having to worry about being late if we went to have a smoke - in fact we didn't even think about a ciggy one time so we did good lol.

We were pretty good with the waiting around but it was a really long day just the same ;0)

Tell Jen to go ahead with the plans, I think we could all go on a family plan right?!!? ROFL

Thanks Tammy, it was so nice because we just totally relaxed, not a thing bothered us and that's the best you can ask for isn't it? ;0)

Thanks Donna, we were very happy to be there it was great!! I love that camera it makes me look like a competent photographer - it is a Rebel EOS and I am very happy with it.

Yup, Joan Hawaii is a really really great place - in fact every time I saw a for sale sign I had to force myself not to stop lol. I think DH and I did ok ;0)

Foggyj, it is paradise and DH and I were lucky to get to visit.

Kathi, you lucky dawg! I would love to try to grow them but I'm really afraid they would just dry up here, I didn't check but I bet it was over 100 degrees out today.
