I was in WalMart yesterday, looking to replace my kitchen timer (DH left it on top of the grill...you can imagine). While I was in the housewares department, I came across a limited selection of Tramontina enameled cast iron cookware (made in China, but it looks well made). One of the pieces they had is a 3-qt. braiser/rondeau. I had asked DH for one for Christmas and when he looked for one, it seemed the only brand that the enameled cast iron braisers came in are the Le Creuset. He balked at the price and the fact they're made in France (but that's another discussion altogether), so I've been on the hunt for an alternative. I'd almost given up hope, until yesterday. This wouldn't have been my first color choice, but I'm not *that* picky. The cost was $30.00, so I feel pretty lucky.

Suzy ~ My apologies for not "getting it". I take things very literally...I suppose it comes from my line of work ;o) I do think it would be a very good short story, though. Reader's Digest, perhaps?

She lived a double life, dangerously close to the edge. Will her sordid little secret come to light? She left work early that day, making sure noone saw which direction she was heading in. As she traveled to her destination, she wondered aloud if she was doing the right thing. Her heart told her one thing, but her sensibilities told her another. What a prediciament she had gotten herself into, but what could she do?
She finally arrived, and with her nerves and senses tingling in anticipation she got out of the car. She looked around, hoping she wouldn't run into someone she knew. After all, what would they surmise she was doing there? She walked with a steady stride to the front doors, hesitated, took a deep breath, and entered. She continued walking until she reached her destination. A smile of satisfaction came across her face. "Hello, my darling. I've been longing for you, to see you, to hold you in my arms.". With that, she picked up the treasured 3-quart Tramontina braiser and made her way to the front of WalMart, thrilled with her newly found acquisition.

You guys (incl. gals) are making me laugh! Good thing! What I like on a forum. Love this, Laura: You guys must hate all the "I bought a darn cactus and I have not a clue what it is" posts. Don't you just want to ping a rock off my head? As the others have said, no...I enjoy identifying plants. Keeps my brain cells working. =) I think all remarks have been in fun. There are, on rare occasions, posters who are mean-spirited & say nasty things. But, for the most part, we like educating & being educated about all succulents! Thank you, Rina, for turning the pic upright. =) Jeff & Dzitmo have a way with words (among others). Not always easy for me to decipher, but fun to read! Sometimes, explanations are in order (as seen above). If you're not sure about something, just ask! A hybrid E. obesa seems likely (as Jordi, Geoff & others indicated). Is it an F2 then? The registry doesn't give the parentage of Painted Delight, so unless Grant knows what it is it would be pretty hard to duplicate. It shouldn't have the same name even if he did, but if it's a PD F2 then that would make sense. I've never been quite sure who should take credit for F2s since there's really no creative input by the grower, apart from the culling process. It does look slightly different in that the "painted" part extends all the way out to the margins instead of being just in the center of the leaf. Nice plant, in any case.

The coralberry grows fast. I think that one is starting its second summer, I ripped out an Indian Hawthorn that didn't like the shade and put it in and it took right off. Puts out those little runners the 'devil's shoestrings' so if you don't want it to spread you have to nip those off. I have a certain area I want it contained in so if goes out of bounds I cut them off and it doesn't care at all. Right now it's probably 3x4 and around 3' tall. Carrie, I'm not exaggerating when I say the mutabilis gets no care. If you have space, I'd highly recommend it. I'd say that from what others have reported it doesn't like being pruned. I've never pruned it except to remove dead areas. It's gotten kind of ragged a few times in really cold winters and last summer but always just bounces back. You can see it from the street and my neighbors buy them just because they like seeing it so much. I'm going to plant Ms. Cant about 8 feet away from it and hopefully one day they will just be one big plant. Can't wait for another couple of weeks to go by and more things to get going! Teri

Saw the same ones at a WalMart last week also. I was looking for an enameled grill pan which they didn't have. They had more than one size, but don't recall which ones. BTW, your range is really, really clean! (And I still like your counters:))

So, for starters, I have 4 different pieces of LC--vive la France. For enders, I don't enter Walmart, even though there's one a mile away. France is not a problem, but Walmart is.
