I ruined two really expensive cookie sheets a while back using that stuff. It took me a while to figure out what happened. I don't use it anymore.

I posted awhile back on cooking spray building up or not coming off on my baking sheets....no way will I use it again!
KT peeps got me to using parchment paper now and I still love it! But doubt it will work for your GF grill.
My guess is you will have to toss it...unless its submersible?

I found this online. I've tried scrubbing with cleansers and it doesn't work for me, but the oven cleaner might!

I don't have a GF grill but I do have an idea. Could you take some wet paper toweling, wring it out and "cook" it a little while to soften the greasy mess? Maybe then you could scrub it off with baking soda. Just an idea, if you're gonna toss it anyways it might be worth a try.

I wouldn't put food directly on the grill at this point.

However, I never do anyway. I've been lining mine with parchment paper for years, bottom and top, The grill works just fine that way--you still get grill marks and the food cooks great. Only differences are: the food stays more moist, and no clean up when you're done. Buy a roll of parchment, and you won't have to toss the grill.
AND you'll wonder why you ever used the grill without it in the past!

Are your plates removable? This is probably bad in some way, but I heat mine up then take them to the sink and run water on them. The instant steam lifts all that crud right off. Their non-stick surface didn't stay non-stick for very long, but still wouldn't trade mine for anything. I wouldn't use anything too abrasive on them. Did you get the GF sponges that they make for them. Love them.

I never thought about using parchment on a GF grill! What a great idea. I love using parchment for baking.

I have used De-Solve-It to remove cooking oil residue (vegetable oil can also leave that nasty residue when it gets too hot). I spray it on and let it set for a while, then use a scrubbie to get it off.

I know they make a "high heat" Pam now also.

I don't have a Geo. Forman grill but have some other brand, I just take the plates off and run them through my dishwasher, they come out nice and clean. I never spray mine though. I don't know if that would work for you or not.

joann, I have a George Foreman grill--the large one with the removeable plates--and I use olive oil spray constantly. I think I've used this particular grill for nearly three years, several times per week (I eat a lot of grilled meats and grilled veggies), and I always use the PAM spray. After the grill cools, I remove the plates, use a paper towel to scrape off food bits, and either run them through the dishwasher or wash by hand with a plastic scrubbie. The plates are still in perfect condition as to to the tefflon coating, and they clean up beautifully. Even things I've burnt have come right off. So perhaps the plates have been ruined on yours and you need to get a new one, but the grill should certainly last far more that a few months. I had my first Foreman grill for nearly 5 years, I think, before I tossed it out, and is wasn't because it went bad but rather they introduced the one with the removeable plates. Another trick you might try is, as soon as you remove the food while the grill is still hot (but unplugged), wad up a bunch of wet paper towels and place them on the grill, then close it. Eat dinner, and when you come to clean the grill after dinner it will be MUCH easier to remove all the left over pieces of food. Good luck. I LOVE my Foreman grill!

Mine doesn't have the removeable plates. I always put wet paper towels in it after dinner then it was a snap to clean up. Something in that spray must have damaged the Teflon or it may have been the marinade I had on the chicken. I'll give the parchment a try. Thanks

I have an old one and have had no problem...Now my son has had a lot of trouble with his and wrote or called the company and they sent him a new one....Most of the time I wipe it out as soon as I'm done using it......Good luck!

The parchment paper was not a good idea, the chicken looked like it needed a tan! Very pale. I re-oiled it and it seems to be ok for the moment.

I'm surprised--I've been using that for years, and my chicken and steaks get wonderful color and grill marks, my pannini and grilled sandwiches are always nicely golden. My vegetables caramelize nicely. Wonder why it didn't work in your grill?

My Foreman grill ended up in the trash. The black coating came off in my food! Never again.
