I moved my dog quilt to protect it from the cats... 2 pix

I was worried that allowing the 3 cats to wallow around on it wasn't going to do it any good (even though I kept parts of it covered with towels and a smaller quilt) so I folded it up and put it on my kangaroo rack in the craft room. Safe, right? And it added some nice bright colors to the room, 'cause lime green walls aren't enough, rofl.

Well, it didn't take long for Beeswax to find it. And he blends right into it, I didn't even notice him there at first, the little snot.

Connie, he and Murphy are FIVE years old now! He looks a bit lunchy here in these photos but he's really not, he's the sleekest of the bunch. He is a big boy, though. And soft! Oh, he's kissable!

"The cat isn't fixed and he sprays everywhere." Is this what you saw (the spraying) or what you were told. I have four male cats (3 outdoor) all of whom spray whilst outside, but do NOT spray indoors. If they go in the house, they use the box like gentlemen. Sadly, IMHO, if the owner were looking for him, you would see some activity on his/her part. All of the people know of the cat, etc., but the correct number isn't on the collar? Something is rotten in Denmark. Poor cat. The distant neighbor is feeding him and in touch with the owner, yet the owner hasn't come to get his/her pet? WTH? People who own an animal then let them loose (for whatever reason) in the hopes someone else will take them in should be strung up. I would call the no-kill shelter if you're not planning to take him in. Is there really such a thing as a no-kill shelter anymore, and are there even any open spots left? We always end up taking in the ones when they show up. Pretty much how we've gotten all but 1 of our fleet over the years. This last one, "Miles" was a big project. Besides the behavioral issue toward the dogs, which we were able to overcome, he was a mess. We had to invest some $$$ to get him "house ready", neutered, shots, shaved (matted beyond belief), but he has turned into the most loyal well loved member of our gang. It has now been over a year and we are so happy we took him in. Funny thing, he is such a people cat (or I should say DH cat) as he follows DH everywhere. Shower, out to the pool, back and forth from his office to other rooms of our home. He sleeps between us on the bed every night. Love him to pieces. I hope someone with a heart takes this poor cat home and gives him the proper care. Too bad you live so far, or I'd come and get him from you. Sad that none of these people you've talked to has bothered to give this guy half a chance of a proper life.

What did you decide to do in the end and how's it going? I'm in an almost identical situation to you, albeit in England. I've been living with my parents since graduating from university and have recently accepted a job offer in a place that's around a 3 hour train journey away, so I'll be moving there. I have a cat who lives at my parent's house, but she is 'my' cat, as in, I found her as a stray on the road when she was a tiny kitten, I took her in and she has been a very happy, lovely pet cat since. I feel very close to her, she also sleeps on me, follows me around etc. When I've gone away for weekends etc. my parents have told me she pines in my room and obviously misses me, she doesn't stop eating or anything drastic but still I feel sad to hear she pines and things. I have been looking for a place that is cat friendly, but realistically my budget for a flat/room is small and it would be extremely unfair to take her with me because of lack of space/being on her own all day. She gets well looked after by my parents and I know they will continue to do so when I go, but they have hinted at the fact that they'd like me to take her eventually as we have another, older rescue cat who really doesn't get on with my younger cat. It's just such a dilemma...I'm really going to miss her, to the extent that moving away feels too hard. But I know I can't stay just for her and I have to move my life forward (i'm not happy living at home and I don't like the place I live in). Maddie's behavior sounds a lot like what my Feather went through before I got him integrated into my household. Because Feather showed up at the same time as two other young adult toms (I've always assumed the three are brothers), and because the boys were quite aggressive with each other, I had to keep each separated until I could integrate them. Feather ended up in the master bathroom for a while where the isolation really did a number on his tender psyche. Feather would hiss at me each time I entered the bathroom to spend time with him, then he'd crawl all over me, writihing in joy as I stroked and scratched him in all the right places, then he'd attack me viciously when I got up to leave. He just couldn't stand being left alone. I started wearing my tall rubber barn boots into the bathroom so that he couldn't shred my legs when I had to leave him again. Because he was so overwrought about being left alone, I had to integrate him into the rest of the household more quickly than I would normally do. Feather hasn't attacked me since I let him out of that bathroom, but he's still a very emotionally unstable cat. He is intermittently aggressive with several of the other male cats. I never know what is going to set him off or when, so I can't trust him unsupervised with the other cats. When I leave the house for more than a few minutes at a time, I have to put Feather into a bedroom to keep the other cats safe. Sometimes I even have to give him timeouts when I am in the house and he just can't control his own volatility. Like Maddie, Feather is a very sweet and loving cat. He just isn't stable, and he isn't reliably safe around the other cats. Dealing with this sort of animal isn't easy, so I can certainly understand you returning Maddie to the shelter. It's heartbreaking when you've already connected, but you do have to consider the safety of your other animals. I'm sorry for you and I'm sorry for Maddie. I hope she can be placed as an only cat into a loving home. Laurie

Thank you so much, everyone, what a bunch of ego-boosters you all are! Honestly, joining a quilt along was the only way for me to go, it was inspiring and getting further instructions on a weekly basis was perfect, enough time to get the assignment done and then more time leftover to get excited about the next bit to do. If left on my own, I tend to lose interest. And when everyone posts photos of their work, it's inspiring and informative, to see what fabrics they're using and what I liked and didn't like about them. The trouble is, though- I tend to want to copy 3 or 4 of them and I just don't need a bunch of quilts! And the main reason I didn't give up on the lemonade quilt is that I had cut up 40 fat quarters and I didn't want to waste $100 worth of good fabric! I'm making all kinds of things out of the strips- Pity Potholders, Scrappy Neck Wrappies, cat collars, a cat blanket, etc. lol I'm trying to recoup some of my losses, 'cause I'm so mad at myself! Biwako- Nosey Parker looks less than white when she's on the quilt, but if she lays in just the right spot, you can't even see her. lol And she is one of the reasons I'll never be able to use black sashing in anything I make, darn it! White cat hairs on quilts- not pretty!

I don't know what I love more - the Beeswax or your gorgeous quilt!
Everytime I quilt on a frame I always notice a bit of a pull over the evening because the cat has inched further and further on the quilt - they think it's theirs before it's even finished!

Well, Granlan, he can stay until I paint that hallway on the left, then I'm going to take Spicey's idea and hang it up. The quilt forum ladies have convinced me that that is the way to go. You'll see it when you exit the bathroom or walk from the craft room to the guest room.

He's a cute little stinker, that Beez, that's for sure! He's been on there every day since he discovered it. If he holds true to form, he'll lay on it for about 2-3 weeks and then he'll find a new spot, but he'll keep coming back every now and then. I'll leave the pink/white quilt there but I'll have to cover it with something so he can't get it too dirty. Maybe I'll make him his own little quilt, I need a little project. One with a bee skep and bees, perhaps. Or maybe little mice. He'd like that!

Thanks, everyone, for admiring my sneaky boy! He gets into more trouble around here, but he's Mr. Personality so he gets away with it. I just wish I could capture it better on film.

That's great. He's keeping it from getting that "dog" smell that he's heard so much about.

My one cat, whom lately I've been calling Madd Manx loves to snooze on her back. I keep threatening to glue a clock to her belly and sell her as a Buddha statue. She's become quite the lunchlady. Yep, she's about 14#, while "Bony Tony" is about 9. Poor little guy has no padding at all. At least he knows he can zig and zag better than she can when she goes on the warpath. Not exactly unlike human males & females, eh? :D Just kidding of course... Aren't I???

That's what we call a "Mum-ism", Kath, she comes up with all these great English sayings all the time, new ones all the time, even after all these years away from there. She also says, when referring to a weight problem as "well, she's been eating between meals." She has a big cat named Violet, aka "Pookie Light" just because she isn't black like Cole, and Violet eats between meals a LOT. lol

I ended up making a little quilt for him to cover the real quilt, because I have to paint upstairs before I'll hang the dog quilt. I actually made 2 of these in different configurations, but this one has the cutest machine quilting. And I'm NOT a quilter, so forgive all the boo-boos!

Cynic, we come up with new names for our guys all the time, too. They just refuse to become too predictable. Your's sound like fun cats.

I was in a scrapbook store last Sunday that had been renovated and remodeled last year. They have the cutest little white Westie that the owners bring to work every day. He has a little chase lounge in the front window of the store, but when we were there, he was laying underneath it. The owner said he got mad when they redid the store because they redid his chair, so now he won't lay on it. lololol
