Neil Armstrong stepped out of Apollo 11 and onto the surface of the moon. It was the best birthday present ever!

Check your big box stores for Ortho's Black spot control. Buy a little 1 gal pump sprayer. Follow directions on Ortho's label and spray once a week. When living in Fl, that was 52 weeks a year. There are a few roses around that don't need to be sprayed. That will come as you get more comfortable with roses. Everyone has their opinion about spraying roses. I have found that most of the roses I enjoy growing require spraying. It keeps the foliage clean and happy which in turn makes me happy. There are different things in life where you have to put in a little extra effort to get the results you desire. That's in ALL phases of life. It totally depends on you and what you want to put into anything to get the results you want. Is life perfect?? No. As you will find in rose growing. There are some beautiful roses out there that flat will not perform In your area. I ran into that problem when I first started growing roses. There are a LOT of roses out there that grow and bloom like crazy no mater where you live in the lower 48. While you are looking at the Cool Roses web page you might want to take a GOOD, HARD look at Belinda's Dream. Where in S.Texas do you live. S.Texas has quite a few rose societies. Most of these folks have been growing roses in Texas for years. They can give you a good idea what works great in your area. Don't buy to many roses to start off with. Buy a few and grow those few until you get comfortable with what you are doing. Over doing everything and getting overwhelmed will burn you out in a few short years.

My DH & I are DJing a car show all weekend. Tonight I'm baking car-shaped cakes for chances & bread for a bake sale. We've volunteered at car shows ever since we first got together 14 years ago. We have games for the kids & adults, contests, rod jousting, a burnout competition, trophies & a dance in the evenings. We have a 1960 Chrysler Imperial & a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite (both unfinished) & an 03 Dodge Caravan with painted flames. We'll go to our city park to watch the fireworks (50% chance of rain here). Some years, we have fireworks at the car show. Have fun Karyn, I keep forgetting to get your stamps. We have a Jack Nicholson golf course at Rocky Gap State Park, maybe your husband would like to play there & we could visit. Golf = boring to me, too. Linda

Happy birthday, very cool! I was only 3 years old. LOL We didn't own a tv then so Dad rented one to watch the moon landing. He took pics of the tv screen.

My 16th birthday was also a memorable--though sad--day in American history. President Kennedy was buried on my 16th birthday...it was also John-John's 3rd birthday.

Cool! My Dad and I watched the moon landing on TV in the middle of the night. A great memory.I was 17.

Don't sweat it, Jodi--I was older than 16 that day.

I watched the moon landing at Lincoln Center, where I worked. I stood next to a Rockefeller, an elderly gentleman at the time. He was charming, and we were all awed by what we were watching. I always assumed he was Nelson Rockefeller's father, but I just learned that the father died in 1960. So I don't know who it was.

Happy Belated Birthday, Jodi! I'm sorry I missed it.

Woody got married to his XW that very day and didn't get to see it live as he was flying to Europe. I watched it in the LR, I remember we had a carnival in the park that weekend and we all ran home to watch it on TV. I was 12.

Happy, Happy! Oh, and thanks for the tassels, they arrived today and Nosey Parker is making it her mission in life to get into the bag! Brat. Woody says the bag is no longer waterproof. I told him I had no intention of immersing it in water. lolol

I probably should have mentioned in my original post that today is the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon walk.

And yes, it was an amazing day! I can't remember what I had for lunch today but I can tell you exactly where I was and even what the room looked like where I watched the moon walk. It was a Sunday and I was at my pastor's home with church youth group friends celebrating my birthday while watching history being made.

Well, that was actually the year before I was born. ;o)

But, on the 24th anniversary of that event my first child was born. So today, on the 40th anniversary, is my DS's 16th birthday!

It's weird- it happened on a Saturday 40 years ago, so I think the anniversary of it should also be on a Saturday. THAT'S where I got confused!

And yes, that was a very cool 16th birthday present for you, it was nice of NASA to time it to your special day!

My cousin was 13 on the day of the first moon walk. I didn't want to go to the party that evening so I could stay home and watch the Apollo 11 news coverage. I finally relented when Mom assured me that they would have the TV on at Mikes house, too.
