OT: Happy 4th of July to you all !

Just wanted to wish you all a very Happy 4th of July, and to thank any Veterans, veterans families, or active duty service men/women. I am so thankful I live in a free country, and appreciate all those that keep us safe.

So, how are you celebrating ?

I live in Bristol RI, that claims to be the most patriotic town. They have the longest running 4th of July parade.This will be the 223rd year. Flag day starts off our festivities..we have a soap box derby,concerts on the town common each night from flag day till the 4th. They consist of rock, country, jazz, military bands, and draw about a thousand people or more a night. They have a Little Miss, and Miss 4th of July pageant. A ball for the pageant winners, town officals, parade cheif marshall..and residents. We actually have a red, white and blue line instead of a double yellow going thru the town, that they have repainted each year, a week before the parade. The fire hydrants are painted red, white and blue. They ask that all homes fly a flag, but most families here decorate more then you see at Christmas. There is fireworks, and the parade of course. The parade last year had 300,000 people in attendence. Id love to hear how you will be celebrating the 4th. I may be attending the parade, as it is my daughters 16th birthday, which makes this year very special. She is as excited as a small kid..LOL Then we will be going to and from houses that are having cookouts, and then family and friends will come here for ice cream cake in the evening.

Thanks, I hope you have a great time as well. We are going to Tulsa Oklahoma tomorrow and will be back later Sunday night. I hope we get there in time to see some fireworks. I wanted to leave today but too much to do at work and at home to get ready.

Happy 4th to everyone. Hopefully the fireworks won't get rained out again. They did last year and there's something that's just not right when they are rescheduled. We have our little neighborhood parade and party with entertainment for the kids and a DJ in the afternoon and go to see the fireworks at night. It's too difficult to fight the crowds in DC with 3 young kids so we go to one of the smaller venues in the suburbs for the fireworks. On Sunday we leave for short vacation.

Hi FL good to hear from you again. I am so glad the seeds grew and you have a tree coming along. It is, as you said, a dwarf orchid tree, bauhinia amaculata, I believe, not the huge white orchid tree you usually see around here. I grew mine from seed as well. There is also bauhinia Mexicana, that is similar. And a red one bauhinia galapinii that hasn't bloomed for me yet and also a dwarf. The red one is more like a bush, then the others. I am having a little more trouble training it to be a tree. :o) Your stitch work is lovely. I haven't done any in years now.

My DH & I are DJing a car show all weekend. Tonight I'm baking car-shaped cakes for chances & bread for a bake sale. We've volunteered at car shows ever since we first got together 14 years ago. We have games for the kids & adults, contests, rod jousting, a burnout competition, trophies & a dance in the evenings. We have a 1960 Chrysler Imperial & a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite (both unfinished) & an 03 Dodge Caravan with painted flames. We'll go to our city park to watch the fireworks (50% chance of rain here). Some years, we have fireworks at the car show.

Have fun Karyn, I keep forgetting to get your stamps. We have a Jack Nicholson golf course at Rocky Gap State Park, maybe your husband would like to play there & we could visit. Golf = boring to me, too.

Making Turkey jerky. Going to see fireworks over little Bay. Yearly Tradition. Same family spends 50,000+ every year and it is done on a small island in the park surrounded by the bay. It has never been rained out in 15 years.

We have had some rain which is good.

Your town sound like it has a very exciting time! I don't think we even have a parade! lol.

Today, we're off to Asilomar Beach in Monterey for a barbeque and to see fireworks!

I'm just re-potting stuff for now. LOL. friends'll probably come over later, but they usually show up randomly anyway, so no real plans out of the ordinary over here :)

I think we are going out to dinner and staying in for a movie. Should be fun though we are never home at the same time! Have a very happy and safe 4th!!!!
