My cat Bud, begging for catnip (video)

Every nite, at the same approximate time, Bud goes to the entertainment unit and lets me know he wants his catnip.

Hubby is filming and I'm in the other chair. He's staring at me. I'll have to try filming him again, so that he looks directly at the camera.

Too cute, at least I think so! LOL

1.) no it isn't hard at all, along w/ my basil it was the only herb to really wow me. 2.) i dumped an entire packet of burpee catnip in a 6-8" pot i ended up w/ a mini splotch of living shag carpet in there, it stunted the growth so that after 4 months the plants were 3-4 inches tall, in short a packet will give you OODLES of plants a little goes a long way. 3.) diffrent cats will eat more or less of the plant, we have a kitten that will mow it down, and i have a 7yr old who only eats perfect leaves. 4.) use the leaves, i make mine w/ a bit of fresh nip leaves and a few leaves of sweet basil. it's a mild tasting tea, no hint of bitterness as w/ some herbs, though the smell is intimidating. very nice for a sore throat, i first made some in desperation as i had spent the day coughing and miserable, it worked instantly, it did a better job of soothing my throat than an analgesic spray, and it's calming effects are stronger then chamomile imo. 5.) catnip is a perenial in zones 3-9 and should be planted in a container like other mints, or as so i've read 6.) the seeds should be good for later plantings. the rule of thumb is 3yrs before seed quality goes south

I would just shake the stems to get more bugs out and let the catnip dry until crispy. After the herb is dry put it in an airtight container and stick in the freezer for a day. Lots of people do this with their grains and flours before using, to kill any weevils or moths. You can also submerge your harvested stems in a bucket of cold water to get the bugs out before you dry them, but tiny dried bugs aren't going to hurt your cats...they would probably ingest all kinds of cooties if they were munching on the plant outside, and my cats hunt bugs all the time inside or out.

That's what I would've guessed. I've got another video that's uploading now but is going to take a long time. There are two of these wrens that hang out at the edge of my woods and the other one let me get right up and close, tonite. I'll post this video tomorrow if I can get it to load. I have a satellite connection that conks out if I don't sit here and wiggle the mouse to keep the screen up. Try not to laugh at me, I beg! I've gone a lot overboard then I would normally to the point where I laughed at myself a few times. It could take me a few days, so be patient, as it's kind of fun. There's another thread similar to this but I'll post the response here also: My cat was not eating or drinking, not peeing, or having bowel movements. She was throwing up green foamy stuff & gagging at the smell of wet food. She was hiding under the bed, not wanting to come out & very lethargic. This went on for 5 days when I finally took her to the vet. The vet only did a physical and told me he needed to do a billion tests to find out what was wrong & it would come out to be $356. I didn't have that money so I just got fluids subcutaneously injected. They said it might help with her appetite. They gave me all the possible causes that it could be which have been listed on this site already. That night I gave her 10ml of water via a syringe every 2 hours 3 times. I blocked her way of getting under the bed. I added a scoop of her dry food into a cup of water & in the morning it was soggy enough for me to mush into a paste. When I added water I got it thru the syringe. I gave her 5 ml of the food mush the next morning along with 10 ml of water before I went to work. There are videos on youtube that show you how to feed the cat. It took me about 15 minutes. While I was at work my mom gave my cat 10 ml of water every two hours & 5 ml of olive oil every 2 hrs. Her friend has a cat that gets into everything & often has blockages & she uses olive oil for about a week and it helps her pass it. When I got home from work I gave the cat 10 ml water & tried with the food. Later on she ate a bit on her own and was drinking on her own. Today, I went to a clinic that my mom found online (Women's Humane Society) and they were cheap compared to all other local places. I told them the symptoms and based on that the vet did an xray. They saw that she was very constipated which has been causing her enough discomfort to now eat. They gave her an enema & stool softener & she was passing stool for about 20 minutes. The vet prescribed stool softener, a/d cat food (which, of course, she happily ate infront of the vet after I said she wasn't eating), & an appetite stimulant. She's not drinking water on her own but still not eating. I'm sure her tummy just hurts from the enema. He told me I MUST have her eat a can of food a day. He used a popsicle stick and smeared it on the roof of her mouth to feed her. It was $205 total. (30 physical, 120 xray, the rest was for the Rx) Good luck to everyone. 24-48 without eating isn't a concern for vets. Don't let the vets fool you into a million tests, insist on just fluids & an xray. Make sure you search around for a place that provides great care & is inexpensive like the place I went.

Ooooohhhh, Bud is beautiful. Poor baby having to wait to get his fix. And he's so patient too, He just wants his mellow weed and he doesn't quite understand why you're just standing there watching him tonight.

You let your boy get high EVERY NIGHT???? You must be a hippie from the 60s!!!

I bought some catnip toys on clearance and have been rationing them out. She sniffed out the bag they were in when I brought them home. Then put them in a drawer and it must be some potent stuff because it's in a plastic bag, in a plastic drawer and she sniffed out which one and was working on opening the drawer. She's in one of her relaxed moods here. She leads a stressful life and needs to find ways to relax.

LOL georgysmom, yes she does, but ever since she settled down and got used to living here she's enjoyed laying on her back. She'll flip on over all the time, even when she's in my lap. Enjoys getting her belly rubbed - just don't touch the chest area. I suspect she was kicked a lot in her previous home(s).

This little guy OTOH found other ways to relax. He actually did enjoy a few drops of beer occasionally.

When I was a kid, every Christmas we would wrap a catnip mouse for the cat and put it under the tree a week or so before Christmas. We would find that package all over the house, and by Christmas morning, the paper was pretty beat up.

They are so smart! Cute video. I hope he got his reward.

I keep catnip in a similar place. Mine doesn't knock on the door to get my attention, but when he sees me open it, he comes running. He knows where it is.

We have fresh growing outside. On the weekends I am in and out bunches of times with laundry, DH is in and out constantly (worse than kids!!) doing this and that. But, we can walk in with it in our hand, hidden and they will smell it and start whining until we give it to them. They LOVE the fresh stuff, and when we have it dried for winter, they are not as happy with the dried stuff.
