My cat Bud, begging for catnip (video)

Every nite, at the same approximate time, Bud goes to the entertainment unit and lets me know he wants his catnip.

Hubby is filming and I'm in the other chair. He's staring at me. I'll have to try filming him again, so that he looks directly at the camera.

Too cute, at least I think so! LOL

How often would be recommended for brushing a cat's teeth? My vet said to go with a diet of canned food for hydration and dry food for his teeth. I also picked up a catnip flavoured snack that has tartar and plaque control. Are these snacks effective? I think brushing a cat's teeth would be like trimming their nails: we let them take care of it naturally (with their grooming), provide the right environment/food to encourage good health, and do a little extra here and there to provide holistic health care. I think animals in the wild have ways they naturally deal with their health and hygiene and we need to provide what they've lost when we bring them into our homes and domesticate them. But sometimes human biases affect how we think we need to care for our pets. We bathe daily but may never need to bathe a cat or only rarely when they've gotten into something that has really gotten their fur dirty. I've read up on the link provided in another thread regarding feeding canned cat food over dry food and it had links to nutritional information comparing many brands. Does anyone know of a similar type site that would cover dry food and snacks they can share?

I think the potency would be okay. I have this plastic container of catnip that must be about 10 years old by now. My cats still open the cabinet door and dig that thing out and play with it. Yep, he stares you down till he gets his catnip. It's a ritual. I know what you mean about treats Dees. I would give them their treats when I was making tea after dinner. It wasn't long that soon as they hear the kettle come out of the cupboard the 3 of them come running! Bud in the lead of course. He can be asleep on the bed and before I know it, he's beside me. Of course, DH can give them treats shortly before, but soon as I get the kettle out, they are around for more!! Thanks Susan! I'll check it out.

jasdip, who says cats can't be "trained". Your Bud has the same markings/coloring as my Allie (she's a main coon) They would make a nice looking couple. Allie is smart too. Used to fetch crumbled up pieces of paper, but ever since we got the 2nd cat, who interferes too much with the game she won't do it. She also can open doors that have the lever style knob, not the regular round ones. Likes to push stuff off the kitchen counter to the floor, enjoys watching things fall/bounce. I have both kittys trained to scratch the scratching post for treats or pinches of catnip. When they see that we can see them doing this they both run to the post and start scratching. I tried to get Allie to do roll over but didn't work.

Ooooohhhh, Bud is beautiful. Poor baby having to wait to get his fix. And he's so patient too, He just wants his mellow weed and he doesn't quite understand why you're just standing there watching him tonight.

You let your boy get high EVERY NIGHT???? You must be a hippie from the 60s!!!

I bought some catnip toys on clearance and have been rationing them out. She sniffed out the bag they were in when I brought them home. Then put them in a drawer and it must be some potent stuff because it's in a plastic bag, in a plastic drawer and she sniffed out which one and was working on opening the drawer. She's in one of her relaxed moods here. She leads a stressful life and needs to find ways to relax.

LOL georgysmom, yes she does, but ever since she settled down and got used to living here she's enjoyed laying on her back. She'll flip on over all the time, even when she's in my lap. Enjoys getting her belly rubbed - just don't touch the chest area. I suspect she was kicked a lot in her previous home(s).

This little guy OTOH found other ways to relax. He actually did enjoy a few drops of beer occasionally.

When I was a kid, every Christmas we would wrap a catnip mouse for the cat and put it under the tree a week or so before Christmas. We would find that package all over the house, and by Christmas morning, the paper was pretty beat up.

They are so smart! Cute video. I hope he got his reward.

I keep catnip in a similar place. Mine doesn't knock on the door to get my attention, but when he sees me open it, he comes running. He knows where it is.

We have fresh growing outside. On the weekends I am in and out bunches of times with laundry, DH is in and out constantly (worse than kids!!) doing this and that. But, we can walk in with it in our hand, hidden and they will smell it and start whining until we give it to them. They LOVE the fresh stuff, and when we have it dried for winter, they are not as happy with the dried stuff.
