Had to go to town and pick up Twinkie. He left one truck at WalMart to get the oil changed and tires rotated and balanced. Going back to get it in a little while and then go pick up my DGDs. They're gonna stay with us this afternoon while their parents go fishing.

That's about it - laundry, dishes, etc.

I wish I was with Glenda in the water. The only water I'll be in today is Dish Water and Dog Baths. Eck! Gotta clean out the Refrigerator and Mop Kitchen Floor.

Hopefully, we will meet my DD & SIL at the Lake tomorrow or Sunday if the weather holds out. I haven't seen their new Wake Boat yet.

I'm still drinking coffee for now.

Other forums? I'll be asking the same question on three different hosta forums... possible a fourth... and GW does not like any direct mentions of other forum names. I know some of the folks here also post on some other forums... I only want one vote from each person on each category. In the past I've done one thread for each category... Green, medium, for example. But we were using it to while away the winter months when we couldn't play in the garden. I believe this time I'll combine things. So, for example, we'll start with Green... one thread to vote for your one (or two at the most) favorite green hosta in each of the size categories, which will be defined at the start of the thread. There are three levels on the Benedict Award... Honorable Mention, Awards of Merit, and then the ultimate... one hosta is selected each year for the Benedict Medal. These are those selected as the best of the best - like the Academy Award for Best Picture. (and like the Academy Award, lots of people disagree as there are often several excellent choices in the running. I predicted First Frost would edge out Earth Angel for the medal this year... and Niagara Falls (my #3 in guessing what people would vote for, but I think I would have chosen it #1 or 2 if I'd gotten my ballot in in time...) won the medal. So... the Benedict Medal winners so far are 2006 (First Honorable Mention list developed) 2007 (Second HM list) 2008 (Third HM list and first Award of Merit list) 2009 First Benedict medal awarded - June 2010 Second Medal awarded - Sagae 2011 Third Medal - Blue Mouse Ears 2012 Medal went to Niagara Falls So far, I can't fault any of the choices. I believe each of those represents the very best of their "type." And the balloting indicates that they grow well everywhere. Every year the ballot gets longer. I think there were 14 on last summer's ballot. This year I had to choose one from, I think 24. And it ain't easy - there are several I really love... BTW - any AHS member can ask to be a judge. They do seek a geographical distribution, but I haven't known anyone to get turned down yet...

Me too! The only two people on the English speaking part of the internet who've come across this. For me, I noticed it the day after the first shower after soaking in vinegar. So I think the soaking breaking down something inside there is the cause.

Does your vent hood ever bump your head?

We've selected our hood (a 42" wide Best by Broan WP29 with an 1100 cfm in-line blower) and are trying to determine the best depth (24" vs. 27") and mounting height. It will be installed over a 36" Wolf rangetop with charbroiler. Our GC is recommending mounting 30" above the countertops for best exhaust efficiency, but at that height I think the 27" deep hood and my head would become too well acquainted (I'm 6'0", or at least I used to be before gravity started catching up with me). One of the reasons we chose that particular hood is that the most likely "contact area" is angled in such a way that striking it would distribute the impact over the largest possible area. That assumes, of course, that the hood's "crease" is above the danger zone. The height decision is also influenced by the 6" and 12" soffit chimneys available from Broan. Our GC would prefer that we use the 12", as doing so would make the transition to the duct to the outside world easier for them (and less expensive for us). Comments and suggestions? Hi cathyid, I was wondering what your "id" was up to, now! Gardening ... tomatoes coming out my ears ... some unpicked yesterday to take to the two churches to which I take veggies, due to lack of time, yesterday ... brought some to the library, and to visit a couple of friends, later. There's a festival going on in one community and there was a luncheon taking place at the first church when I arrived, with an illusionist making a presentation. One of the favourite guys at the second church had a dinner all cooked up for him, with a backdrop on one wall and everything, for his 70th birthday, which included his neighbours, etc. ... and he hadn't caught an inkling of it. Big card on the table, with everyone signing ... my comment, "Ain't it great to have a wife that - even at age 70 - can still spring such pleasant surprises?" And the twice-daily half hour walk, advised/required by my doc after the procedure, week before last. Thinking of writing a story for a seniors' magazine describing a suggestion I've been thinking of that could be helpful to seniors, especially in the light of the great increase in their numbers that's about to take place in the next few years. Need to have some work done on the car ... and pay the bill for the last procedure, of which this is a follow-up. Need to clean and prepare son's freezer (part of his Mom's estate that I'm storing), as there'll soon be some more stuff to go into it ... mine is pretty well filled, now. I woke up before 4am and was wide awake and hungry. So around 5am I ate a sausage sandwich and juice and put on some coffee. Then I decided to crawl back in bed. I just got up around 9am!!! That is very late for me. So I am just now getting my day started. I don't have any plans for today.

Wish we had water aerobics here!

Came into the office at 7:30am (normally start at 9AM) after working until midnight yesterday. Have a full workload once it comes in and will probably be at the office until midnight (or later) again. Same goes for tomorrow day. I have a tennis tourney to attend tomorrow night and an out of town trip on Sunday. Back to the grind on Monday.

Got up at 4am, threw in a load of laundry, washed a sinkfull of dishes - I guess my daughter entertained last night-I'm not saying a word, she will be gone in a few weeks and I will be singing the blues, Showered and dressed and got to work. I won't get off work today until 5 and then I'm meeting some friends at the local American Legion, not drinking, just socializing. Tomorrow will be spent at Moms canning whatever her garden has produced this week. She is 75 and still has a big enough garden to feed everybody. Afterwards a pig roast at a friends house and then sunday is bingo day. In between all the running and doing I might find time to clean my house a little. I have a tired smile on my face just thinking about it LOL

Heading out makes me think of my daughter who left at 4:30 this morning to fly to Vermont. She planned to leave her truck where she had to take the bus to travel to O'Hare. I said to her "I hope it doesn't have much gas in it," since I have been reading about people siphoning gas lately. She groaned that she just had it filled. I got up this morning and see her truck is parked in the garage, so I guess her daughter got up in the wee hours to drive her to the bus station.

At least she listens to me once in awhile.

Waster, this morning, was PERFECT!
Great great instructor, and pool was packed!

Headed out for lunch, thinking a camel rider at Nabeel's with fried pita chips.

Nothing, maybe check on the canteloupe and melons out back. Should have a ripe one soon! I called in today from work to keep an eye on Alex. He had two wisdom teeth taken out yesterday afternoon. So far he's not in much pain and the swelling isn't that bad.

Lauren and her friend, who spent the night last night went to the Humane Society. They volunteer there. Only problem is Lauren wants me to take all of the dogs she sees there. I almost had to stop her from going about a month ago because she was nearly hysterical over a puppy. I told her if she couldn't control herself she wouldn't be allowed to go anymore. I can't take and save them all.

I might go out later and take Lauren to get her school supplies. We're going tomorrow to do the clothes shopping. Hopefully, Alex will feel up to it by then. Although, he does hate clothes shopping no matter what.

I ran some errands earlier.

In an hour I'm going to head up to the neighborhood pool w/DS and his girlfriend, a cooler of soda and a birthday cake. Four other friends (and Dominos delivery) will meet us there. I've given them til 10pm. So I'm gonna stay, cuz we're that kind of parent. ;o) Always all up in our kids' business.

It's hotter than heck right now, and humid!! But the sky looks iffy. Completely overcast, but not dark, so I'm just not sure. If it stays like this, the pool will be open and empty, which is great. If it rains, I guess I'll bring 'em home for the food, then take them to the Extreme Bowling.

Shoot. And I'm gonna run back up to the store for plastic forks. Darn it all.

I was off work today, and I had errands to do this morning. I also went to a quilt store to check out what they have...I'm getting the urge to get back to quilting.

This afternoon I had an appt for electrolysis, and the technician knew my son from basketball. I also spent some of the day out back with the dogs...they loved it.

The weather was warm and sunny today...it was just perfect.
