Absolutely. My mom had bypass and valve repair when she was 85 and came through fine. One thing though, she has almost no memory of those first few weeks, including my sister and I being there, only other sister who lives in the same city! Also, depression can happen and if it affects him too much, a little medication may be in order, temporarily. (She had to do that.) At the time, there was a lot of pain to deal with and she wondered why she decided to go through with the surgery but now, of course, she is very glad she did it. I'll pray your b-i-l feels Peace.

Wow the day sure is dragging. I keep waiting for the phone to ring with some news. I wish I could be with my sister now but her two adult children are there with her so I'll save my vacation time to use when they aren't there. I will most likely go Sunday and stay until Tues or Wed. They have a neurotic dog and I know my sister would be on edge if she were visiting at the hospital and the dog was home alone for extended periods of time. I just wish I would hear something.

Good morning. I got a call from my sister last night about 7:45. My brother in law was in surgery from 8:00am until 4:00pm-a long eight hours. He is in ICU and may be there a couple of days. He is bleeding and they are having trouble stopping it. He had been on Warfarin before the surgery and had been taken off of it only 5 days before the surgery. I don't think it was long enough to be off the med. Please continue the prayers and good thoughts. I am leaving tomorrow to be with my sister. Satine

I am glad the surgery is finished and hope the bleeding is stopped by now (I have "issues" with Warfarin too).

Boy, that was a long day. Hopefully there are meds they can give him to help with the bleeding; if nothing else, transfusions will work. Yes, I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Travel safely, Satine.
