How Many Different Fresh Fruits Do You Have on Hand?

Since I went to the grocery yesterday I seem to have a few different ones on hand. I have strawberries, grapes, sweet cherries, bananas and nectarines. There is even some cantaloupe but I would call that a melon even though it is a fruit of the vine. So do you have a variety of fruits on hand? Got a favorite one?

We always have a lot of fruit. We're due for a grocery run but right now we have Rainier cherries, a few peaches, strawberries and blueberries. Running low on all those and out of bananas.

As for favorites, hard to say. They're all so good!

Right now I have Fuji apples, bananas, cherries, blueberries, and lemons. I usually have a couple of nectarines or peaches around too but they go bad so fast, I only buy one or two at a time.

Jeff, I appreciate your gratitude but it is the Widemans that will make our day. Everybody loves fruit. These folks are going to tell us how to be successful in our fruit growing endeavers. I'm really looking forward to learning about it and already jotting down questions! I'm told they like necter rich bee plants and Tina Wideman loves flowers. I'm hoping we can all pitch in with plants for them so they go home with a nice bounty too. Lets feed em well and send them home with armloads of plants as they are educating us free of charge.

How big a lot do you need in order to have multiple fruit trees

Cant really tell by just the lot size. Depends on available yard space and sun exposure, do you want a back yard with space for kids to play in, are there Home Owners Association rules, do you want some in the front yard (ripe fruit hanging on a accessible tree is tempting to potential theft). I don't have any avacodo, but there are some mango trees that can be kept fairly small. You can control a banana mat to just keep three stalks growing to keep it small, lychee can be kept a manageable size. My lot is 120' x 125' (15,000 SF) I have 10 different banana types, 2 different lychee, 5 different papaya, 7 different dragon fruit (6 more in pots to be ground plated next year)), 1 grapefruit, 1 orange, 1 tangerine, 1 lemon, 2 lime, 7 different mango (most in pots), along with pineapples (every top I cut off gets planted somewhere), a couple of tomatoes, 4 eggplants (in containers), 2 blueberry (container), hot peppers (containers), sugar cane, a small mamey sapote, a small carambola. Still planning to have some big pine trees removed to get more sun and planting space. The South side of my house is pretty shaded, that will be changing. Where there is a will there is a way. DM

Wow, I'm hitting all of your homes for dinners. They sound so good and well-stocked. I always, always have onions and carrots in my frig. (Do you refrigerate your onions?) 10-lb bag of white potatoes. Yukon Golds are my favourite but I'll buy them again when it comes down in price, hopefully. I have a bag of romaine hearts (that's the only romaine I buy), and am going to get some broccoli, hopefully. It's on sale this week for 99c I miss it, but it's been so expensive ($1.79) for just a little head with a real fat stalk, so I'm hoping this batch is better.

I wash my hands about that many times a day. We keep handi-wipes in the car and wash after each store we go in. We also have been using one after looking at the menus in restaurants because I read the menus are one of the dirtest things in a restaurant. We both have colds now, something rare for us, and blame shaking hands at church for that. I wish they would stop telling us to greet someone.

Not at the moment. I need to go shopping today or tomorrow, but here in No. Mn, buying fresh fruit at the super market is a crap shoot whether the fruit is naturally ripened or artificially ripened then the good sweet flavor doesn't develop. We have a fruit/veggie stand a block from us and I stop there to get good, HUGE, cantaloupe. The guy there asks when we want to eat it, and I usually say today, and he goes through the pile and picks out a perfect one. He has always been right. I usually pick up a few peaches and maybe the rainier cherries will be there by now. I love, love fresh fruit, if it is ripe and sweet. Being a diabetic, food is a matter of choices and I choose fruit as my limited sweets.

I love fruit. Use fresh fruit as a side dish with meals and as snack food.

Cherries, black plums, blueberries, oranges, and the last of the HoneyCrisp apples.

I did get some good peaches a couple of times - but those are really a roll of the dice here so I'll buy one or two at a time. I miss a really really good peach.

We always have an abundance of fresh fruit all year! It's used for snacks and in place of dessert with meals. Currently, we have bananas, oranges, blueberries, kiwi, apples and a couple of end of the season peaches. We have a small fig tree that is covered with little green Brown Turkey figs. I'm hoping we'll have those in a week or so!

These are from my own garden and trees:

watermelons- 2
blueberries- bunches and bunches!!(best year we have had)
Nectarines - 7(first year producing)
cantaloupe-1 did not do too well. Lots of vine, little cantaloupes this year.

Always have fruit - we eat it as a dessert for dinner or with spinach as a salad. GS is 2 and mainly eats fruit.

Peaches
Bananas
and some very old blueberries that got hidden under other stuff!

I usually keep 2. Most of the time its apples and grapes. A little later when the Door County cherries ripen, I'll add those. When I bring home strawberries, they don't last long enough to count.
