How big a lot do you need in order to have multiple fruit trees

Hi. I live in Miami and have been living in apartments and I'm looking for a house now with a yard big enough to grow fruit trees, have a small vegetable garden, and also hopefully a pool and jacuzzi. I looked at a 3/2 house today that has a 13,000 square foot lot. How many fruit trees could I fit on there? I definitely want avocados, lychees, bananas, mango, and pineapple. Hopefully two avocado trees that have fruit at different times in the season. If anyone has advice I would appreciate it!

Cant really tell by just the lot size. Depends on available yard space and sun exposure, do you want a back yard with space for kids to play in, are there Home Owners Association rules, do you want some in the front yard (ripe fruit hanging on a accessible tree is tempting to potential theft).

I don't have any avacodo, but there are some mango trees that can be kept fairly small. You can control a banana mat to just keep three stalks growing to keep it small, lychee can be kept a manageable size.

My lot is 120' x 125' (15,000 SF)
I have 10 different banana types, 2 different lychee, 5 different papaya, 7 different dragon fruit (6 more in pots to be ground plated next year)), 1 grapefruit, 1 orange, 1 tangerine, 1 lemon, 2 lime, 7 different mango (most in pots), along with pineapples (every top I cut off gets planted somewhere), a couple of tomatoes, 4 eggplants (in containers), 2 blueberry (container), hot peppers (containers), sugar cane, a small mamey sapote, a small carambola.
Still planning to have some big pine trees removed to get more sun and planting space. The South side of my house is pretty shaded, that will be changing.

A LOT depends on the fruit trees you buy.

My Lot is 80x100.

I picked Makok Sapodilla as they don't get huge, neither do Julie Mango, Carambola, Gold Nugget Jakfruit, Lychee, Bananas, Papaya, Grumichama, Barbados cherry, pineapples, coffee, and I staggered the trees as best I can in my yard so they all get light.

My 3 Carambola are very close ~10' apart on the side of the house and produce a LOT of fruit now.

Sounds like you have caught the dreaded, "if one is good, 30 are better," disease! There is NO cure!! Stay away from the UC Davis site, or you will be swimming in cuttings like me! My home vineyard started with 7 wine grape vines, and I now have 80 viable cuttings (some going into containers,) and some tucked in every corner of my yard I can find. Make wine out of your fruit, and your boyfriend will soon get on the "let's plant 60 trees page." I am now going to keep in pots a few fig trees, pomegranates, and olives. UC Davis is a humbling place because for the cost of shipping, they send you cuttings for Free, and when you get them, you suddenly become very spiritual and pray more than you ever did, that these precious living things bestowed on you will grow into mighty thriving plants. God started this whole thing anyway, with his Garden of Eden! Where is that place? Dana Point? I wish you sunny days, and the best of luck with all of your trees! Doan's nursery in Belt line road in Irving has many cocktail fruit trees. I would suggest to check this nursery for fruit trees, flowering plants and tropical plants. Be prepared to wait to get help and also make sure that you are getting the right plants because many of the plants don't have labels/pricing. I also noticed that many fruit trees are from California growers, so not sure how they would grow in DFW. Moreover, they do not give any kind of warranty to the trees.

Karri: If the hazelnuts you are planting are what is known as "American Hazelnut" I have a feeling you will regret having planted them. They grow very quickly, are not particularly attractive, and have few to no nuts. The few are very small. I had two of them here, and within 5 years they were over 15 feet, and were quite a chore to cut down and dig out when I decided to get rid of them. If you do plant them, put them in your least favorable location, away from the fruit trees, which they will quickly outgrow and overshadow. They have quite a spread too, so keep that in mind if you are planting them close to a property line. The other four trees could go in a line in full sun, about a dozen feet apart or so if they are semi-dwarf types. Whatever you do, get the trees out of that bucket of water and into some moist peat moss, soil, or anything that will allow the roots to breathe. It is possible to drown a fruit tree by keeping it in a bucket more than a day or so. Don Yellman, Great Falls, VA

Hi Buylady! 81? I would of never guessed. Most people your age don't even know own a computer! I am very proud of you on that one too. You even now how to post pictures. Yahoo. I am still trying to get my mother to get an e-mail and she is only in her low 60's..lol Thank you for your concern. I appreciate it. Do you grow mushrooms to eat? I know many that do and swear they are very good for the body! I hope you are ok too:-) Hi Cath! Let me go look at the label. I will be right back.&%*&^%$*&%&*& Just wonderful. I can't find it. I do know it is not the 'lady of the night', but the other one. They didn't have any left when I ordered it because it was late summer, so they sent me this one. I am very happy they did! The whole greenhouse smells sweeter than candy. This I can tell you. When I leave it alone in the greenhouse, it seems to LOVE the humidity so therefore holds on to the very white flowers a lot longer. As soon as I bring it in the house for a night of enjoyment, by the next morning, the leaves have colored to an almost yellow and don't seem very happy. They age a lot quicker in the dry environment and the scent is less intense. I just LOVE this plant though and can not wait until the warm humid summer nights since it flowers intermittently all year. I'll bet you love yours...:-) Mike
