My cat ...Charlie

I'm having my first cuppa and catching up with the emails and boards and Charlie walks in and plops down in his usual early morning position when he wants his breakfast...He is saying ...sit there as long as you like but I'm going to sit here bittching for my breakfast.

Your Charlie obviously has the "nagging gene" like my Buster. Buster eats mostly dry Iams cat food, but in the evening, as a treat he gets a spoonful of canned cat food, about 9:00. He starts nagging and staring about 7:30 and doesn't let up until he gets his 'lovin spoonful"
By the way, Charlie is one handsome dude.

Oh, that's just so cute!! I sure miss my pretty boy black cat, Duncan. He was one of a kind,, but then, I guess they all are.

Wow! They've really upped the Trycloper in WBG! It used to be you had to get Brush-B-Gone to get that much horsepower. That is the stuff you need. Your basic problem was to be expected with a spring-seeded lawn. New grass cannot deal with summer heat so it dies. But you needed to do something so...you learned something. Now let's get going to fix things. Applying a grub killer now is a waste of time and money. They are going to sleep now. The time to apply grub killer is when you see the June bugs attacking your porch light in May or June. Get the best seed you can afford. It should have a guaranteed analysis that shows 0.00% Other Crop and 0.00% weed seed. Otherwise you are planting new weeds into your yard. These bags are usually not available at the big box stores or Walmart. Look at a garden center - an expensive garden center.

GGG -- Boo Boo Kitty sounds like she earned a well-deserved retirement after years of being on duty. I have my other two kitties relegated to the indoors for medical reasons. Someday Starbuck will have to retire but she's only about 4 so hopefully she still has years of service to my gardening cause ahead of her. rjinga, love your babies too. Especially the white one staring into the camera. So far I haven't been able to train A.J. to stay out of my daylily field so I feel your pain. I can't tell you how many buds he's broken as he bounds by. He only showed up on our property as a starving pup last April and we're still working on some "issues". At the end of daylily blooming season last fall I put nylon pantyhose footies over all of my developing seed pods that I hybridized just like I always do to protect them from insect damage. Well, A.J. must have gotten bored and thought they looked fun to play with so when I got back from work one day I found somewhere between 30 or 40 nylon stockings littering my field, complete with huge broken off seed pods inside, slightly chewed of course. I could have killed him!!! All that time spent planning my crosses, gathering pollen, pollinating and waiting...all for nothing. Aaargh! I would have had far fewer casualties with the bugs, so this year no panty hose. Eventually maybe I'll get it fenced off with low voltage electric wire and hopefully he and any hungry deer will get the hint quickly. He only knows the difference between cats and everything else that moves. He actually ran down a HUGE wild turkey that just happened to walk out of the woods one day while we were on a walk. That was the day I learned my sweet, submissive wouldn't-hurt-a-kitten stray pooch had some serious hunting dog in his gene pool. The turkey and I just stood there and looked at each other for a minute, we were both so surprised by the other's sudden appearance. But the instant he got nervous and decided to run away he was doomed. A.J.'s chase instinct kicked in and they both disappeared over the hill just as the bird took flight low to the ground. I was concerned about the dog because those turkeys can actually inflict some serious damage when threatened. I looked and looked for him for over an hour with no luck. Finally later that evening I walked out of the house to look for him again and he was laying in the yard next to a giant turkey carcass. I was shocked! Not only had he killed it but he dragged it back home over a mile and that bird was much bigger than he was! So....who's craving a turkey sandwich? Danielle

This is a very tough weed, and timing is the key as weel as specific herbicides. From a timing standpoint, you will make your best headway in the spring during and immediately after flowering or the early fall. The herbicide choices are either the Weed-B-Gon Purple label (purple label is key) or a product called Drive (quinclorac). The Drive is the best, but you may only be able to find it at LESCO stores.

Image by: Ruth2 Meow "Cylinder Cat Project" The directions and photos for this project are from GJ Member Ruth2 The cement cylinders were in my yard when I moved here. They are drainage pipes 12" tall, about 5" diameter. The styrofoam ball is 6". I took Durhams Water Putty and made a thin slurry out of it and put all over the ball. I was hoping this would help the paint adhere to it. Then I made a thicker solution of the Water Putty to mold the ears and muzzle area. It's a little sticky until it starts to dry. The cement cylinders and ball were primed then painted with folk art paints (acrylics). I have not sealed them, but the Water Putty will absorb moisture, according to the directions on the can. So if they will be outside, a good sealer is recommended. This was modeled after my cat, Charlie. I still have it in the house, sitting on the table and whenever I see it, I'm always tempted to yell "Charlie, get off the table"!! Added note: I sent an email to Water Putty company regarding sealing projects for outside use. Here is the reply: "In many cases, painting with an exterior latex or oil based paint is adequate protection for the putty from moisture. I'm not sure, however, that acrylic paints will provide enough waterproofing to protect the putty...so I would probably try sealing the sculpture with a coating of a clear waterproof polyurethane varnish (like a boat finish) Hopefully you can find something in a flat finish. I'd probably go to a paint store and get their opinion. They should be able to recommend something to help you out. It is possible to seal the water putty before painting it. If you want to try that, I would suggest giving the putty a coating of "Gorilla Glue." This is a waterproof polyurethane adhesive, and it provides a waterproof surface that is paintable and would keep water from getting into the putty, or if by some chance the water putty would get damp, it would help keep the moisture from making the paint peel off." So, at this point, I will seal with Spar Varnish, but on my future cats for the garden, I think I will get the "Gorilla Glue".

No doubt about it Cat's are natural born rulers of the World. LOL! My Stray Mama Kitty who blessed me with 3 more is starting to really get Bossy with me. LOL! Now the Kittens walk in the house like they own the place daring the dogs not to get in their way. LOL!

They sleep in the garage on top of the Corvettee! How bad is that? Leave a window down and they sleep inside the Vet.

Ya' gotta luv 'em!

Oh, yes, we have three cats and Jazzpurr has taken over as food dish monitor in our home, complaining to us as needed.

Your handsome Charlie is just reminding you of correct priorities -- kitty first, everything else second.

I really believe, our furbabies are here to keep us humans in line....I know in this house, they rule...But, DH and I feel very lucky to be allowed to live here with them.....

One thing I learned quickly about owning a cat is if you
let them do something once, it's an ingrained habit!

My 3 eat dry food, and a couple years ago I started giving them a bit of canned in the morning as a treat. Every morning they start hounding me about 5 am for their breakfast.

And boy, do they ever know what the microwave is! I warm the leftover food for them, and they all huddle around looking at it while it's working.

I have a cat who nags me while I eat my breakfast. Mind you, i give her a can of Fancy Feast when I first get up. Then I grab my newspaper and make coffee or pour a bowl of cold cereal. As soon as I sit at the kitchen table, she comes over and start segging. I push her away. If she refuses to leave me alone, I roll a newspaper and smack it on the table next to her. No, I woulkd never ever hit her, but the noise chases her away.

At least Charlie, who is very beautiful, is asking YOU for the food. My cat goes and complains to my dog!!! I keep telling him that the dog does not have thumbs!!! LOL They are great company, that's for sure.

We have 8 cats that rule our house. Like another poster mentioned we feel lucky they allow us to live here. We firmly believe that if they could open the food themselves we might find ourselves homeless!

When Sugarpie had her ears removed she would not eat or drink. So we started giving her a little bit of canned food. Since that time over 5 years ago she tells us when it is time. She waits in the kitchen or tries to trip you if you walk through! And if the big food dish is empty all of the cats will come find you. Imagine sitting at your desk with 16 eyes on you!

Your Charlie is quite handsome too! So hard to resist that face.

Dogs have owners, take it from someone with 11 cats, cats have staff. They rule the roost here but we enjoy them. Had to shave one, he was really matted but now he has a spring in his step. He got a bath this morning. Yes, he enjoys a bath, does very well with it. Someday I'll try to show pics. I don't quite know how to do that yet. Enjoy your day, we have a birthday party shortly.

I am merely a servant allowed to live in this old house. My job is to meet the needs of five cats and two dogs. Cats certainly are creatures of habit. Mine each get a large tablespoon of wet food in the morning. They each have their special places to eat. Phoebe and Lily on the counter, and Nellie and her daughter, Annie ,and big Henry all on the floor in a special order. I free feed dry all day and have five small bowls . Henry is the keeper of the food at 22 pounds. When it starts getting low and there are just crumbs, he starts meowing and keeps it up till I relent.
