My aunt/uncle on GMA today

My dad's sister called from Nebraska a few days ago and said that she and her husband are supposed to be on Good Morning America today. I'm not sure the subject matter, but their daughter (my cousin) just had a kidney transplant, so it may be about that. ??

I haven't seen them since I was a baby, so I'm anxious to watch!

I'll turn it on. I'll bet the transplant took place at the Nebraska Medical Center. That's where Nate had his radiation treatments.

Was it the story of the little girl who had been saved from drowning? That was so touching!

Hi, I read your post with interest as we are in the process of taking on our 20 month old Grandson. His Father (our son) and Mother are both on drugs. Our Son is currently in jail and is back to being a normal person who you can have a conversation with. He doesn't know we are taking on his son as he has no contact with him and becomes very angry about the situation. He would dearly love to see him but before being in jail his girlfriend (the Mother) and he had a very volatile relationship and the 3 children were taken by child protection services. The older two (different fathers) were placed with their maternal grandparents, who thought it would be short term. Unfortunately their daughter is still on drugs and only maintains spasmodic contact, which is getting less. Our grandson was placed in foster care, he was 3 weeks old at the time. He is with a lovely family who have two teenagers and two other foster children aged 6 and 4 and our grandson 20mths. We didn't take on our grandson at 3 weeks, hoping the parents would come good. That is obviously not going to happen for the mother and my son would have to jump through hoops to prove he has drug taking and anger issues under control. My questions are "how important is it for my grandson to be with family? Should he be allowed to stay where he is happy and loved? (my fear here is he will become part of the "foster" system and be parcelled around). If we don't take him will he grow up thinking the family didn't want him? We will have him before he turns 2, are we being selfish to take on a toddler at our age ?(54) We just want what is best for him. The overall question I suppose is "how important is family ?"

i m so very sorry for you dear...you know one fine day,same thing happened with me and u know what i got a call that my parents have died in an accident..i was not at all prepared and had met them a couple of hours before...this happened on 27th april '08...my younger brother was driving the car ...he is just 24,i m 27 and my mom dad were in their early 50's...today i cant even accept and believe that they r gone..i just keep calling them to talk and all but no body picks call...i keep calling them try to talk to them..it pains so much and i always keep crying....i m not able to believe they r gone and i dont have a family to go to..me n my brother were so dependent on them...I know my dear it is going to be very difficult,it hurts a lot ..mom is a mom then... but try to involve yourself in your family members love them u have DAD...support him emotionally...try to cherish the good moments u have shared together i know its difficuly,for me too it is... i have a BIG blank in my life ...since that say i have sleepless nights and haunting mornings telling me something is missing... but I hope God gives us strenght to carry on...hugs my dear...

I play Scrabble online a lot & WWF. Also started Lexulous which is another entire career. IMO, the dictionaries in both games are very messed up. There are acronyms like "qwerty" allowed but more commonly used words are not. This is especially true in the bingo words which seem to me to be more bizarre than other. On one tablet the Scrabble game, for some unknown reason, only allows me to play the UK version which allows different 2-letter words than the US version. So there is zo, yu, ky, ch, fy, gi, ja, ny, oo, ou,ug additionally. Interesting that we are all using English but the Brits get "words" we don't. WWF is just as bizarre. I regularly email with suggestions but that's a waste of time. Nowhere is there any indication of who is compiling these dictionaries or on what basis. One of the great urban mysteries.

Thank you, Jayne, This is the 5th year I've been keeping them in photobucket. Then came Facebook.... @:) Thank you, Lois. She said she plans to 'showcase' it on the back of her couch, but nobody can sit there until she takes it off. She doesn't want their head on it. Sounds like a good idea if she doesn't want it greased up. Oh Bev2009. 'Aunt' Elaine is the one who is 9 months older than me. I'm the 'young' one! lol Gray hair, pink top and have her in a headlock! LOL We were in the same class during highschool and became best friends. Then she married my uncle (who was 2 years older than me) the year after my DH and I married. We have a lot of fun memories.

That made me bawl! What a neat story! Obviously, not what they were expecting...

My cousin just had her transplant a week ago, so they have had a lot of surprises lately.

Okay.....who's got the kleenex?!?!? That was wonderful!!! I bet Leslie knows right where all of this took place, too? I think the best part was when her dad came and gave your uncle the hug...if it wasn't for your uncle, she wouldn't have been there to be his daughter all these years.

That was your uncle and aunt? Awesome!

I'm home for a change (vacation) and happened to watch this morning -- that story really hit home.

I was saved from drowning in a reservoir when I was four years old. I'm now planning to ask my mother (when she returns from a trip) if she remembers who rescued me.

What a lovely story! It brought tears to my eyes too. And wasn't it funny that the girl he saved works at the eye dr. office where his wife goes. It is a small world!

It's nice to see GMA adding this to their program. I don't usually watch that show, but I will be checking to see new stories.

Oh wait. I got confused. Okay, the girl that was rescued, wasn't your cousin. The rescuER is your uncle. Was it their daughter who had the kidney transplant?

Dick (who jumped in and saved the little girl) is my uncle. His wife (JoEllen, in the short pink jacket) is my dad's sister.

Their daughter (who wasn't on the show) is my cousin, and she just had a kidney transplant. The younger guy on the show (Rick Becker) is their son (my cousin).
