Karen I used to load boxcars and one winter night I opened the door on one to load it and inside was a solidly frozen snowy owl. We hoped he would revive if he thawed out, but he didn't.

Younger sis, my dad, and me...taken on Father's Day in 2005. We put him back in the hospital yesterday with another icky infection from a foot suregery he had last week. Prayers appreciated.

Sorry about your Dad. Some of those infections can be very stubborn, and I hope he gets better soon. Nice picture.

My dearest friend Esther, who took over the daunting task of mothering me when my own Mom died when I was 25. She is the love of my life. She and her husband (whom I also love dearly) came to town for my birthday last weekend. We all stayed in a lovely hotel and spent two days together. After all the years I've known her and her husband we have discovered we are probably related through her husband's side of the family. Here I am opening the gifts they brought with them.

For about three years this lily has come up by the corner of the garage, and every year I plan to move it when it's done blooming, but haven't done it yet. I have no idea how it came to be in such a spot.

These are a favorite bright spot in my garden beds. Those poppy sized yellow flowers really brighten up the borders.
